"Time to play B-sides" is such a clever and playful line to include in that long litany of references to time. Everything about this just works so well.

I saw Blue Oyster Cult on Long Island at the Nassau Coliseum in 1977. They had a wild Laser Light Show that night that was absolutely amazing.
Sa them that year or maybe the year before in LA. Light show was insane! Lasers were pretty new at that time with the mirror ball
I saw them in Odessa, Texas two winters in a row: Dec. 4, 1976, with Bob Seeger & TSBB opening, and again Nov. 10, 1977, with Black Oak Arkansas opening.
It was the 77 show where they used the lasers. Most hypnotic and intense mind-F I ever experienced!!!! 🌩

Last time I saw them they still did a great concert. It's been a minute, but they always did a solid concert that gets you pumped for life when you walk out into the night after. Decent lighting, but nothing so flashy to distract or set fires or need overhead booms and catwalks. They liked to play arena rock in mid-sized venues where you could really see them, sometimes six shows over a weekend, instead of two or three. Went to more of their concerts than any other band. They were THE sci-fi, fantasy, RPG, and computer nerd rock band of the '80's era, back before nerd was a nice thing to say. Rush, too, a few others, but BÖC was the Cult of the Blue Öyster, which included all geeks and nerds with a sense of humor. If you listened to Blue Öster Cult then you probably liked Yes and had the rock opera album of War of the Worlds by Jeff Wayne. Black Blade was a song about a fantasy anti-hero of a then popular fiction series. Cultösaurus Erectus was a great album and had a wild album cover. And so was Agents of Fortune. We used to judge an album by whether it had at least two or three songs we liked, which made it worth buying. But BÖC always made albums that were either trash or fire, never split really. And real fans bought the deep cuts, too. Y'know the distantly approaching, deep bass footsteps from the T-Rex in Jurassic Park? BÖC was doing that effect in concert decades before, as the intro to their song Godzilla. My absolute favorite song of theirs is Veteran of the Psychic Wars, which plays on repeat in my thousand yard stare mind-space. And, I Love the Night is just an anthem for my people. Don't Fear the Reaper speaks of love to over-thinkers everywhere.

Blue Öyster Cult is a very esoteric band.
Love this tune! Glad you're hearing it. BOC had a bunch of dudes writing songs (some not even in the band) so their songs can sound way different depending on who wrote them.

Blue Oyster Cult is named for Long Island town Oyster Bay I believe some of the band members grew up there

Try stepping out of their "commercial" world, and step into their black & white era: The studio versions of their 1972 "Cities On Flame...", 1973's "The Red & The Black", or 1974's "Flaming Telepaths", "Astronomy", or "Dominance & Submission". A different world to what you've already heard from them.

I believe the best BÖC is from their first three album i.e., their black and white stage because the cover art is black and white. The songs on BÖC's "black and white," albums are obtuse stuff, so if you don't enjoy being intellectually challenged you might not like it.

You only listening to Radio hits my brutha. You need to start expanding your horizons with some 70's progressive rock. Some Genesis, Rush, Yes, Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, ELP, Alan Holdsworth, Pink Floyd, Queen. You wanna hear some really creative music, something a little outside of the radio box.
