  • RV Trailer Brakes Not Working? DIY Repair
New video with more details: • RV Electric Brakes Man...
How often do you check your trailer breaks? As full time RV travelers, towing a loaded 35' fifth wheel trailer, this is so important. This is more like a preview of an upcoming DIY video - Larry style. So make sure you clicked the notification bell for the step by step DIY. We do have links down below for the main products he used.
The trailer brakes did not feel like they were stopping well.
So, we checked the trailer brakes electrical signal with an Ameter at the connection box in the kingpin box.
Then we checked the amperage being delivered to the wires going to the axles and each individual brake.
When going under the rv to measure the brake wires, I[Larry] discovered that two of the brake wires were disconnected, broken.
One wire going to the entire front axle, and one wire going to the right rear wheel.
That means we only had one brake working.
I replaced the 3 wire connector with new waterproof connectors, then retested the brakes to make sure the magnets were activating.
When testing, I had Alice activate the manual control for the brake controller in our Ram 3500 dually truck while the 7 pin was connected to the RV. That would send voltage down the blue brake controller wire in the 7 pin then to the brake magnets.

In my opinion the butt connectors should have been removed. Use shrink tube and make the connection watertight. This is your brakes…..

I agree. That is the best solution. But this is much easier for most people and it’s the factory connector that came from Lippert.

@@DownsizingMakesCents I get it Larry, I’m just very type A about safety. I wish we all had to go thru inspection every year. It would prevent problems and accidents. Be well

Wow! 400 lbs. of extra stuff. Lol! Oh my goodness Larry and Alice but you never know when you might need them. Like now! Do you have to go underneath? Oh I would hate to do that but it needs to be fixed. I would love to see the DIY video. Larry’s a great fixer upper. I think I said it tight not sure. But you what I mean. Love you both and have a great day and great week! See you soon!

We are working on the video but traveling and Larrys infusion has us behind
Larry has had to go under the RV and the truck.
I’m lucky we had the parts with us.
      Thanks for coming by 🤗
