Hey Doc. Today while touring the Frank Lloyd Wright house in Falling Water PA a lady was stung by a wasp. I quickly found plantain (pantago major) and had her chew it up and hold it on the bite. She was amazed that the stinging stopped immediately and although the tour guide had someone from the house bring that "sting kit" with a numbing agent she preferred to use the plantain. Score another one for HGHSBM!
I love youre sense of humour. Here in Australia, its the first day of spring, and I noticed a lot of that cleavers in my garden yesterday… I had no idea it was such a great herb. I was going to pull it all out and throw it away !!!! I wont now.
Back when we were on the farm every time I would head out to the garden my husband would ask me "Are you going out to graze or to harvest?" I would always answer "both of course" LOL! Thank you for sharing your love of grazing too!
I’m watching the STS Summit this week, and saw you’re one of the speakers. I’m glad I came to check out your channel!!! I’m subscribed and can’t wait to learn from you!!
When was this filmed? Earlier in the year? One of my favorite weeds is purslane. I use it in salsa. It’s delicious! Also, it has more omega 3 fatty acid than any other plant!
Yes, purslane, but that comes later toward summer; I always impatiently wait for it to grow, once it does its everywhere, including my flower pots! I also love lambsquarter; add nettle and chickweed and make spinach.
One of my favored weeds that I loved when it took over and now specifically grow is creeping wood sorrel. What an amazing lemony flavor! And the list of health benefits it has provided through the years is astounding.
Absolutely love your videos especially these kind because they are so helpful for me using them for science class for my kiddos (homeschooled). Your humor is great! I love how you are just a regular person and teaching what nature and God has given us is my favorite! Recently was able to get the stinging venom herbs from your website to help my cat who had a giant abscess on her face. I gave it to her along with some milk this all and goldenseal and bam 2 days completely down. She has had it for 2 weeks off and on with other herbs but we just were seeing it Wayne. So thankful for you and your channel
Love this Patrick Jones. That's what I love do on our land. I received your pain management package 10-11-2024 I started immediately nomospasms. Within 30 Minutes I felt a difference in the tightness,it released. Started teasel also. Orally and rub on. I feel relieved alittle but continued use will heal. In Jesus Name. Ty Amen I'm also doing here at home. Learning
Fireweed is everywhere near me in the south. Those little buggers proliferate all over the yard and grow so very tall till they get their dandelion puff seeds. I wonder if it's good for anything.
Question on the prickly lettuce- if I wanted to make a tincture would I dry it first or just let it wilt a little since we want more of the white sap? Thanks!
So I am having this really interesting thought. While watching a show a commercial comes on for weed killer. I reflected on having watched this video and then thinking about the fact that we are being sold weed killer (told to use it) the powers that be must know that these “weeds” have the medicinal properties and they don’t want us to know. (Side note I am very new to exploring plants and medicine - maybe many if you already figured this out but wow this whole idea clicked for me. We are taught they are weeds and they shouldn’t have these intruders in our yards and flower beads. But what if some of these weeds by my growing next to certain plants are trying to give us a hint that their properties and the properties of the plant they popped up next to would make a particularly amazing salve, tea, tincture. Wow my head is just spinning. I will say tho I can’t have my flowerbeds overtaken by the non personally planted. 😊
Where was this yesterday when I weeded the garden, lol? I must have cut down a dozen or more prickly lettuce. I didn't have a clue as to what it was. I just thought it was a dandy lion on steroids. Can you tell us more about how to prepare prickly lettuce for internal use please?
Cut it fairly small, stems, leaves, put in a jar, drown in vodka and let it tincture. Son in law already tried it for pain and attests to it working. Last year I tinctured 3 pint jars. Strain after 4 to 6 weeks, or later😁
great knowledge, love the umor too. I would love to learn more about weed from you. I teach soil health and most weeds are growing for a reason. I did not know blue mustard was edible. The cattle love prickle lettuce! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I really like lambs quarters for a green. I do cook it though. There’s one that seems pretty useless called hairy soldier. Is that medicinal? Sure doesn’t taste good with the hairy leaves lol
I love your videos! Can you please help me with a question? You're talking about flixweed and I want to know if it grows in south Texas? I googled it and couldn't get a straight answer, but a lot of bogus information. I don't know where else to go for an answer. Also, Google wants me to change the name to fluxweed. 🤷🏼♀️🤦
When you find the herbs that are only edibles and not medicinal, do you harvest enough to store, and if so, which is your preferred method, and second, how would you prepare most yard weeds for consumption? Thank you so much.
@@karenw9996 I just pulled a few sow thistles today, or they will take over, certain spots I just let them go to seed, the birds need food too😉 The old leaves can get a bit pricky, but mostly they have soft , flexible leaves that are, especially when young. Took me a long time to identify wild lettuce.
@@kleineroteHex I planted two 'pollinator patches' of wildflower mixes, which I let go to seed (except I save some of the borage to donate to the seed library), so my sow thistle can go.
@@karenw9996 good for you - my birds need to eat the weed seeds - or the flower seeds; I have lots of sunflowers and the goldfinches fight over one, 20 more next to that one LOL) There are lots of coneflowers, the finches love as well. yup, just put some on my son in law last Sunday - he leaned back in the chair and there was a yellow jacket; plantain on and it works like magic!

I just used cleavers for edema. Worked great!!
New at this. How did you use it?
Love your determination to get rid of that blue mustard!
Prickly Lettuce and Wild Lettuce are they the same? Love Doc Jones and I am loving the School of Botanical Medicine!
I have a lot of weeds but I don't know what they are! Thank you for your teaching 🤗💕🤗 Blessings

Yellow wood sorrel is delicious, too!
I harvest and dry it so I have some on hand for UTI's. Works better than the antibiotics the doctor would prescribe.

Love the video Doc! I try to tell my dad about "weeds". He spent his whole life tilling and spraying.

Clevers only grows in the Early spring here. I s this an older video.?

Sow thistle has no spiny rib and is really soft.
