About 15 years ago, I taught my granddaughters (ages 4 and 3) about how to use plantain on bee stings. The very next day, I looked out my kitchen window and saw them huddled around something on the ground. I went out to see what was going on and I saw them making a spit poultice and putting it on their friend who had just been stung. It was a proud grandma moment.
How funny, I just did this yesterday, because I stepped on a stinging bugger and taught my g-babe to do a poultice. Hope he remembers like your little ones.
I’m a mail carrier and wasps are atrocious in mailboxes! Got stung a couple weeks ago and at my next few boxes there was some growing on the side of the road. Hopped out a grabbed a leaf and chewed it up and stuck it on my finger over the sting. Throbbed for about a minute or two and then it quit hurting. Best stuff ever!
wow..I have that in my yard. I have been taking natural remedies for many years now, but recently, really since the pandemic, it has playing in my heart that what if we didn't have access to the pharmacy at the store, or what if I couldn't get or afford anymore the oils and herbs I buy for our family.? I follow another youtuber, Danu's Irish garden and learned about Mullein. While walking on our property I noticed that we have a TON of it by a seasonal creek bed. I was strangely so excited by this. I really understood that God really has provided for all our needs, and our medicine IS all around us. We have lost so much of that knowledge. so sad. However, now I have this urgent need to know.
Yesterday my youngest daughter stepped on a bee at the pool. I put some plantain on it and two hours later you couldn’t tell she was stung. I love this
This is awesome. My elementary age child got stung at summer camp while exiting the lake. She calmly walked the bank, found, crushed and applied plantain. The camp counselor kept trying to send her to the camp nurse. She insisted she was fine and wanted to keep playing. Granted, she could have used more plantain and held it in place for a longer time. She still came home with some swelling and minor pain. Even so, I was so proud of her for knowing what to do and being calm enough to do it.
Last week my husband was moving a tarp off of our hay stack. There was a wasp nest in the tarp and he got stung right on the tip of his nose. Thanks to Doc Jones’s school, I grabbed some plantain, made a spit poultice and stuck it on his nose with a bandaid. Thirty seconds later he said the pain was gone and his nose never swelled up like it would have without treatment. Thank you, Doc!
I got stung on my finger last week when I was coming out of my garden. First thing I did was pick some plantain, took it in the house, crushed it up and put it on the sting. Didn't even swell, which is good so didn't have to worry about cutting a ring off. Wrapped it and left on til the next day. No swelling, and no soreness.
We were at the Modern Homesteading confrence... I got stung by a wasp and my epi pen was back at the camper. My husband panicked and ran to your booth and got the venom and sting and the antihistamine bottle and ran back to me and said take this (in his right hand) and spray this (from his left hand). Within minutes most of the pain was gone and most of the breathing reactions.. I talked to Doc after he said take more antihistamine... ! It worked and the epipen got to stay in its box!
Oh man, I wish you’d have made this video last week. I shared with a friend that I had never been stung before. Then, about an hour later I walked out my front door and got stung TWICE by a red wasp. My baby Daddy did die that sucker! It actually hurt worst than the dry bite I had received from a copperhead last year. I applied redmonds real clay as I didn’t know that plantain would be so beneficial to draw it out. And it wasn’t second nature. I have a lot to learn as I am moving more from traditional western medicine to more natural and holistic healthcare for our family - in almost all aspects - herbal first aid is something I need to learn more about. I guess I need to re-watch your video!
I knew about bee stings and plantain but I got quite a few mosquitoes bites a few days ago and thought why not try it for them. And I’m glad to say it really helped with the itching from those too.
I'm so sorry this happened to your little gal, but so glad that you knew what to do and had the tincture nearby! A few years ago my husband was trying to "kick-start" a 4 wheeler with a dead battery and he missed the mark and tore a big place in his leg....immediate swelling, pain, etc. I keep comfrey poultices in our freezer, so I got one out and put it on his leg. The swelling went down in no time, the pain lessened, and healing began. I re-poulticed it a few times over the next couple of days and his leg healed quickly. Like you, I was glad that I knew what to use and had it on hand! This is why I keep a well-stocked apothecary cabinet with things we may never need...but better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them. While I love lots of herbalists and study their books, videos, etc., HomeGrown Herbalist School of Botanical Medicine is where I learned how to approach herbal medicine for my family and is my go-to when I need info. Thanks!
I got stung by a wasp years ago, and used apple cider vinegar on it. The pain was gone in around 20 minutes, and the swelling was gone in one hour. So it doesn't work as fast as plantain, but it does work.
I’m a bee keeper and one of your students 😉 proud to say. I have used plantine many times for my bees stings it work’s amazing!!! One of my all around favorites ❤ thanks guys!!!
I've known this plant sense i was the baby girl in this story! But it was interesting as a kid growing up with knowledge that most adults outside of my parents didnt. Like when i went to a girls camp for a week and a girl got stung so i grabbed some plantain and made a spit poultice, only for the girl to freak out that i spat on her and the teacher to lecture me about eating random plants that i find 😂 imagine my confusion at their ignorance!
Knowledge is power & love. My 9lbs Shorkie just got attacked by a large dog. Got him home and saw 3 puncture holes on the side of his belly. Fortunately, just watched Dr. Jones vet videos and this plantain video last week. (How’s that for serendipity?!) Made a plantain poultice from some growing in my backyard. He seems better and bleeding has stopped. Will monitor if he needs to go to the vet. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us so we can take care of our loved ones. ❤
Learning daily! Thank you! The other day I got bit by a mosquito or something. It got pretty itchy so I grabbed narrow leaf plantain leaf, chewed it up and put it on the bites. It helped!
Yes, it works amazingly! I got stung by a bee this summer and grabbed some, chewed it a bit and put it on. Instantly the pain was gone! I harvested a bunch and chopped it up and put it in the freezer too. The frozen plantain worked perfectly on my granddaughter’s mosquito bites over the 4th of July. It’s a must have, thanks Doc!
Couple of weeks ago I was mulching my garden and apparently stepped on a nest of meat bees. They didn’t like than and stung me. Only one sting. Plantain grows like a weed. I ripped up some, chewed it up and put it on the area and got back to work. It was incredible.didn’t bother me all day
Every time I get stung by a bee, I look at the ground and see some plantain, make a spit poultice and it immediately works its magic. Last week I was quickly walking to my garden (if I walk slowly, the bees part way and let me by, we have a lot of white clover in our lawn, that they love) and got a bee in my flip flop and it stung me. I immediately put some plantain on it and it really didn't help like it usually does, I even whipped together some stinging nettle tea, hoping it would help but it still made a half dollar size area that itched for days. Must have been a potent bee! Probably would have been much worse without the herbs. Thank you, Doc Jones, for all the great information and content!
A few days ago my Grandson got stung by a wasp, I quickly grabbed some plantain, chewed it and applied it to his sting. Next Day my Great Granddaughter got stung, I looked down and there was plantain right under her, I knew I had walked on it with my dirty farm shoes many times but thought what the heck and started chewing it and rubbed it on her sting. She stopped crying right away and told her Mom JuJu picked some grass and it took the sting away 😃 ps, hubby got rid of the HUGE wasp nest right after that.
When my daughter was about 18 months old, she fell in a fire ant hill and got many bites/stings. I wish I had known about this plant back then (30 years ago 😢).
ETA: All of my grandchildren learn about plantain now as soon as they are old enough to walk. We have 7 now who love learning about herbs with Grandma.
My barefooted grandson stepped on a bee on Independence Day, and got stung. My son had nothing to help him. So I grabbed a couple of smaller plantain leaves and mooshed them up and had him hold it on the sting. After a while, it didn't hurt at all, and he was back to fishing-- with shoes on!
I was cleaning cabinets last week and accidentally grabbed a scorpion. It hurt so badly I could barely breath. I thought I had been electrocuted. I sent my grands to grab plantain leaves, chewed them up and slapped the poultice on the sting. Within 3 minutes it wasn’t hurting and by that night, you couldn’t see it. I’m headed to order your seeds next, mine are little dinky things. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Yep! A few years ago my young son took the top off a honey bee hive and stirred the bees inside with a stick..... Yes, we had for-warned him many times to stay away from the hives, but he's the child that has to discover for himself. He must have gotten over 100 stings all over his body. We stripped him down and plastered him with a paste of freshly chopped plantain, activated charcoal and a bit of water to help it all stick. He was fine after the first hour.
My first love of weeds. I have all kinds of wild, narrow and wide. 100 times more than I'll ever need. But and this just my opinion. If I need a quick poultice, I feel like the old, tough, strong tasting leaves work best. My son introduced a friend to triple tinctured plantain last week. Theyneeded benadryl and had none. I got stung below my eye by a bald faced hornet and within just a couple minutes after applying some chewed up leaf, the pain was almost totally gone. I’ve been making plantain salve and tincture ever since. Wonderful stuff!
I must be very allergic to hornet stings, I swell up huge all the way down my leg from a bite on my thigh, couldn't bend my knee had put plantain on it but it came off that night no swelling so I left it off. Next morning swelled up so much I couldn't step up a step. I have always chewed the plantain leaf left it on for at least 24 hours covered with white athletic tape the plantain doesn't dry out as soon under the tape a bandage breathe to much. Has worked for me for years. Only the small plantain grows here I need some seeds from your big plants. Always want a good supply!
Had a battle with poison ivy past few days and tried a whole variety of different herbs and some helped but Plantain seemed to be the warrior in it. Really started using P. Major and P. Lanceolata together yesterday morning and hasn't bothered me since and seems to quickly be subsiding and healing.

Wow 😮that is a great story to share with us all, great medicine and how to use it for the best, sorry to hear about Lucy’s experience but she will always remember this time and know what to do in the future. Also brilliant to know as I am allergic to wasp stings and this medicine will help stop the spread of the wasps venom throughout the body as Plantain draws things out of the body, thank you both.
Was just showing a friend today in the garden plantain and sharing all if it’s amazing gifts given us with this incredible plant thanks so much for sharing with us all.soon to be retired and looking forward to the school of herbal medicine classes…stay blessed
I am on the 3rd day of recuperating from about 6 or 7 hornet stings on my flip-flopped feet. I chewed up some plantain leaves in my yard and put the mash on my feet. Sounds gross but I was desperate. 😂 It took the sting away after no more than 2 minutes. the swelling has finally started to go down.
That just happened to me Sunday. I was mowing yard in flip flops. Ran over a yellow jacket nest. Got stung many times. Immediately had a bad reaction. I broke out from head to toe. Itched so bad I wanted to claw it. Started feeling all out of wack. I sat down at kitchen table. Passed out. When I came to I threw up alot. After a couple hrs. Started feeling some better. Started taking stinging nettle tincture. Put some charcoal on stings. They still hurt all evening. Wish I'd have tried the plantain.
Wish I'd known this yesterday. I grow plantain to use it for mosquito bites but had not thought to use it for a sting. I was running a machette down my 20 acre property line and hit one nest in a spruce tree. I only got one zap on the ear and tried to walk it off going the other direction on the property line then fifty feet the other way I hit a ground hornets nest and they really laid into me. I used wet baking soda which helped but didn't do much for a couple of the really deep stings which pretty much still hurt now more than 24 hours later. Too dark to find any plantain now. Maybe I'll go play with them tomorrow and see how well the plantain works. Stings are good for arthritis anyways. I don't mind the occasional sting but ten or twelve I can do without.
Paperwasp stings are NASTY, plantain does wonders! I used to swell badly from bee stings, couldn't wear a shoe for days, then I discovered this miracle plant, years ago. Now a besting doesn't even swell anymore. I let this super weed grow where it wants to grow, and I have lots!!!! Super weed!!!!!
Hello, I just discovered your channel through Homesteading Family. I’ve learned so much already. Thank you for sharing with us! I’m curious, do you have a video or article on herbs for armpit odor after switching from conventional deodorant to a low toxic deodorant?
I got a whole section of the yard that's almost nothing but plantain right now. So of course I got nailed by a yellow jacket in the top of the sheep pasture where there isn't a single plantain leaf for a 1/4 mile.
So this tincture would also work on an allergic reaction. ie bee sting or whatever is that correct? I am allergic to tick bits. Epi pens are horribly expensive.
So if you are treating a brown recluse bite do you need to make new poultice every day? I don’t have plantain but have been using echinacea, dandelion root and mallow.
Do you have a recipe for the tincture you used? My granddaughter got stung while she was visiting me an all I had was bentonite clay, that I had added water to,. She cried for a looong time so I don't know if it was because of pain or emotions out of control!😂
Not 100% if it was a hornet or bee that hit my daughter's hand and got her pinky this summer as she was running off the deck but plantain took care of that almost immediately. She was freaking out "why does it hurt so much mommy" I put the poultice on and in under 2 mins she was fine, no pain no swelling! Amazing plant and it is absolutely EVERYWHERE lol

I did that with the kids in my complex lol the one boy was like wow! This plant here? Haha
very cool
My Dad used to put mud on us . And it works. God is so Amazing . I love this plant.

I was weeding a flower bed today and got stung 7 times. Didn't think about plantain, but used bentonite clay. Wish I had watched this sooner! 😂
Thank you.
You still have my fountain pen! It's okay, it's a disposable one :) loved the classes at the Homesteading Life Conference!

My absolute go to for bee, wasp, spider, you name it salve. Great video!! Hopefully I can order seeds when you get them😊
student here lol. Thank you so much for all you do for others Doc Jones. I am learning so much from your school and videos.
Thank you thank you thank you Dr Jones!!! God bless you and your family !!!

I used it on a tick bite on my husband. Within in 2 days it went from dark purple back to skin color. I love this plant!
My 1st encounter with plantain occurred years ago about a week after I had read about its magical effect on stings. I got stung below my eye by a bald faced hornet and within just a couple minutes after applying some chewed up leaf, the pain was almost totally gone. I’ve been making plantain salve and tincture ever since. Wonderful stuff!

Other than plantain, what else was in the spray? My grandchildren come over and grandma wants to be prepared! Thank goodness your little one is ok!
If you go to his store you can find that tincture and read the ingredients.
@@AuntNutmeg I never thought of that! Thank you
Had a battle with poison ivy past few days and tried a whole variety of different herbs and some helped but Plantain seemed to be the warrior in it. Really started using P. Major and P. Lanceolata together yesterday morning and hasn't bothered me since and seems to quickly be subsiding and healing.
We love Plantain. Been using it for years and years.
We have the narrow leaf variety, but it seems my pigs have eaten most of it. I found one little 5" plant, which I harvested for this years pitiful tincture, and one larger, healthier plant that was flowering. I left it hoping it will reproduce for next year and our pigs don't get out. I may have to buy seed if I can't find any once the weather cools. We also have no dandelions for the same reason.
Alright, go Lucy!
This works so well!!!
Baking soda and or clay will work like plantain they can help pull the stinger out too
Plantain in my experience works better but baking soda 2nd choice then clay...
Plantain can be found most times easier than the others because everyone has this in their lawn
Thank you, geat info! Loved seeing you with your daughter!
Those plantain leaves are way bigger than what I spied in my yard. I have to plant the seeds that I bought from you. Thank you so much!
My husband and I just watched this video and then went out to do chores and I got bit/stung by a wasp. Had a small plantain plant in the yard got a leaf and did what you said. It feels so much h better now. I'm still learning stuff so thanks for the videos.
Ii am thinking about joining your schiol..What awesome teachers.
I love your humor!
Would narrow-leaved plantain work as well? I see much more of it than the broadleaf type.
Thank you so much Lucy and Dr. Jones, this is amazing information! We appreciate you both!♥️♥️
And more different herb seeds would be great!!
Was just showing a friend today in the garden plantain and sharing all if it’s amazing gifts given us with this incredible plant thanks so much for sharing with us all.soon to be retired and looking forward to the school of herbal medicine classes…stay blessed

I definitely want some seeds. I have some plantain but it's very tiny leafs.
Such great timing - thank you. I will use my smaller plantain until next year when I will hopefully be growing some of yours.😊
Meeee toooo!! I'm SO ordering their seeds🙏 Doc Jones is such a blessing
to us all👍👍
Wish I'd known this yesterday.
Thank u for all your knowledge
How many hours of videos are in the herbal school?
Question herbalists: do you take it internally as well as apply topically?
So if you are treating a brown recluse bite do you need to make new poultice every day? I don’t have plantain but have been using echinacea, dandelion root and mallow.
Can you tell me where I can order those seeds. I can’t find them on the website. I must be missing them. Thank you. -Natalie
Do you have a recipe for the tincture you used? My granddaughter got stung while she was visiting me an all I had was bentonite clay, that I had added water to,. She cried for a looong time so I don't know if it was because of pain or emotions out of control!😂
How do I get ahold of some of these seeds?
Will a glycerin plantain infusion be as potent? 😊
How does it compare to baking soda paste?
If a person is allergic to bee or wasps would you need to add any other herb?
Man I’m suffering with a wasp sting. It is 24 hrs old and my arm is swollen and red and hot. I’m going to try it. Might be too late though.
You know, it's almost like God kinda knew what he was doing when he created all these plants with all their nutritional and medicinal benefits!
Lol! My wild Common Plantain is every bit as big as the Turkish!
Here's a story. Not plantain but aloe vera on bluebottle (man of war gelly fish)sting. Instant relief.
