  • Radio 1 (now known as "1 FM") is one of the BBC's national networks heard throughout the UK, and is one of Europe's biggest music stations. It began in September 1967 with jingles from PAMS, and then used exclusively JAM jingles from 1976 - 1993. On October 1, 1992 they were still celebrating the networks's 25th anniversary, and we sat in on Mark Goodier's "Megahits" show. We also spent time in the studio with Jakki Brambles. At this time, the network's facilities were in Egton House, which was across the street from the BBC's legendary Broadcasting House headquarters in London. You'll hear cuts from several custom JAM packages.

Not a fan of the BBC, but they did have something special with Radio one back in the day.
It has such a great vibe and so many talented DJ’s
The 80’s were a great time for the station I feel.

Radio 1 are playing JAM jingles on their Golden Hour, yet here's the problem:
The songs on the Golden Hour part 1 are now stuck between 1996-2005, yet the JAM jingles are from late 80's-early 90's!

Not a problem as long as they work. As long as they fit the sound of the format, who cares when they were recorded?
When KYA in San Francisco went to an oldies format in the summer of 1981, they pulled out a lot of their old PAMS jingles from the 60s that were still in their archives. Listening to 60s records with KYA's 60s jingles was like listening to the radio in the 60s. It sounded great until the station was sold and new ownership took over in December 1983.

What a vile comment. Mark has had a stroke. Let's hope you never have one. Or maybe you already have and it's triggered you.
