How Should Catholics Respond to the Coronavirus Pandemic?

- Fr. Mike gives us some advice about how we should respond to the coronavirus pandemic. He begins with the story of the recent pilgrimage he took to Israel amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Israeli authorities were quarantining people in the country and canceling all flights except for citizens. Fr. Mike had to rush with his pilgrims and tour company to figure out what to do about their scheduled pilgrimage. At the very last minute, the tour company found a flight to Istanbul that allowed eight pilgrims, including Fr. Mike, to flee Tel Aviv. After successfully making it back home, he found that the original flight they had booked home was never cancelled.
Moral of the story: everything’s a gamble. Some people, deeply convicted to speak the truth, may believe the reaction to COVID-19 is all for nothing, and that there is no need to cancel flights and even Masses. To those people, Fr. Mike asks, are we just being a critic toward those who have to make difficult choices?
Worry, anxiety, fear and living in the what ifs won’t solve anything. Faith in God is the answer, faith that everything will turn out all right in the end.
Some say this virus is a result of our faithlessness, and a call to repentance. Others say our reaction to it is an example of faithlessness. One thing is for certain: this is a call to faith as all adversity should be, but it is also a call to repentance as it should remind us of our frailty and mortality. How coincidental that we should be reminded of these things during Lent, which begins by telling us “You are dust and to dust you shall return,” and “Repent and believe in the gospel.”
We can find a positive and negative side to any situation. How can we find the blessings amid this adversity? Pray, be grateful, and cover your mouth when you cough. Развлечения
Great words I needed to hear. I'm a nurse in the operating room at a hospital, and work is very ominous.... it's like we're preparing for war. I got in my car and just cried yesterday because I'm afraid of what's coming. Got home, prayed the rosary, and it helped. He hears us, He loves us, and He is with us through everything.
Thank you so much for serving in these difficult times. I am working for a bakery here in Germany and we are the very last shops that are open because it is food and people needs food...it is surreal to be out there in these current atmosphere.
@@Schajena thanks for making food for people! I think there are going to be some tough times, but also some beautiful miracles in the next few months. God Bless!
God Bless Bailey but remember keep it simple, just do what you can. Jesus just asks us to love our neighbor as ourselves, focus on God and just Love. When we die we will be with God, Mary, Jesus and all the saints. Keep on serving and remain in peace always
All prayers for medical personnel god bless you to do your best service keep you safe. Seek intercession of st. Mother Theressa
Bailey Connell Fellow nurse here, I share your emotions. The Lord said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hang in there, my sister. We all have to stay in the state of Grace and close to our Lord and His Blessed Mother. God help us and bring us ever closer to Him this Lenten season, let us imitate Christ in all things especially during this crisis.
Due to covid 19 I thirst for Holy Mass. It's funny how I started seeing it's true value when it's taken away from me. I pray everything goes back to normal.
I feel the same way, lets pray that ppl realize the treasure we Catholics have and treat it like so. I hope that the world will get closer to God and find his Love for us and our love for him.
Same!
Amen. I feel the same, but one of our local churches is live streaming mass by a priest I know well. It feels like home. I miss the Eucharist but being a sinner, I often can't go to communion anyway, so I just do the spiritual communion prayer in the Missal.
Truth
Airish Jane Cruza I feel exactly the same.
Please, keep praying for those of us who work in hospitals, especially myself and my coworkers we work on a challenging field and it's not easy to do our job but, we are helping people when they need the most. God bless you all, and stay safe and strong. 🙏🙏👼😇❤️💙👍✌️👌💪

Dear Marjorie Thomas i take this opportunity to thank you all health workers docs nurses for your service and i sincerely pray special divine protection of Almighty God and precious blood of Jesus Christ be upon you all and the whole world amen

Por su dolorosa pasion, ten misericordia de nosotros y del mundo entero
Why would god help us now, when he did not want to prevent the corona virus from happening to us in the first place??? That doesn't make any sense.
@Benazir Fernandes Why do you think that believing in Santa Claus is silly and for children, but you believe that your god Jesus, like the mythical stories of 30 other gods in different religions, some of which existed 4000 years before the Christ-myth started, was born of a human virgin who was impregnated by a god?
You also say that those stories of 30 other gods born to human virgins who were impregnated by gods are false stories, but that your Catholic/Christian story of your god Jesus born to a virgin who was impregnated by a god is the only true story of all the 31 stories.
To make your myth even sillier it says that your god Jesus is part of your god the father. This means that your god the father impregnated the virgin Mary with himself, and then he came out of Mary's vageen. You should have more self-respect than to believe such goofy childish nonsense.
May the Lord protect and reward all those in the medical profession who are risking their lives all over the world to care for the sick. May they, their families and their patients receive healing and blessings. Amen.
May God bless and protect you Emilia!

Jesus woke me UP 2years ago and it wasn’t easy! I suffered a personal haunting day and night. Heard the the unimaginable ( Your GOD has forsaken you) Seen nightmares and Daymares... Poked with searing pain and spiritualy malested while I prayed the Holy Rosary I kept praying 🙏 and crying 😭 The only thing that worked was to pray the Rosary no matter what! Then our Blessed Mother Mary spoke to me through the Rosary and sent help! I gave my life to the Lord and held onto my Faith as much as I could😭 I suffered to the point where give up on life and then he appears Grace and Love 💗 so abundant I was no longer crying 😭 out of fear or pain but crying because of his presence ✝️ Pray the Rosary ✝️🕊🐑🌎
Danielle D. #SocalSewgal# what did mama tell you? :)
Danielle D. #SocalSewgal# I’m experiencing something similar. I prayed the rosary for a week, it was wonderful. Then the last time I prayed it, perversive thoughts crept in my mind. I never think like this but while I prayed it continued. I kept saying sorry and continued to pray. But I haven’t prayed it since for fear that I will go through this again. I cried and prayed to the Lord to forgive me. I want to go to confession and have my rosary blessed by the priest but everything is shut down here in Washington including church. I’m so lost. And I keep wanting to pray it, but it’s like I’m scared to do it 😔
Oh my goodness, thank you Danielle for leaving this comment! I would have gone to bed without praying the Rosary if you had not left this comment. It must be divine intervention, through you, for me. God bless you
Totally Yari God is everywhere at ALL times pray and ask him ✝️ to Bless your Rosary for you✝️🥰 he is that beautiful to ALL of us ✝️ then when Church is open you can always have it reBlessed✝️ I’ve done that!✝️
Jes Pacia She told me the voices were not soul tied. And that she was sending help and to not stop praying 🙏 the Rosary✝️ I cried and kept praying 🙏 🥰🙏✝️
Repent and trust in the Lord we heard this before starting lent and that is how we should be living! God be with you all 💕
Yes, and as was said three weeks ago today:
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion! proclaim a fast, call an assembly;
16 Gather the people, notify the congregation; Assemble the elders, gather the children and the infants at the breast; Let the bridegroom quit his room and the bride her chamber. (Joel 2:15-16)
How do we trust in the lord when his priests, bishops, and pope don’t believe in the Word (and this would be one example)?
Let's all remember that even though we are called to practice social DISTANCING at this time, we don't have to practice social ISOLATION. Let's keep reaching out (FaceTime, phone calls, texting, e-mail, etc.) to those in our sphere of influence!
Amen Greg! I pray that is what I am doing on my show. God Bless.

Call it what it is. Isolation. There is no need for all this Isolation regulations. They are way over doing the unlawful and unjust lock down.

My husband is a procurement officer for a major lab handling the test kits. He is 9 hours away in a hotel with no open restaurant. He is there quite possibly until after Easter. Planning on where to get food is difficult. The kids and I miss him and he is lonely. Not to mention his high risk of catching it. I would have loved to have found peace in the Mass. But I will increase my prayer time and do better with the things I can.
heavenly flame Im so sorry! Stay close to our Mother Mary!❤️
He has to eat to keep up his strength. He has inquire with the company he is working for, or call your local MP. Ask God to send you solutions to your worries, or people who can help you solve the issue. These are real struggles. Thank you for sharing and for reminding us to pray for the people who are in your situation or similar. God bless you all.
The mass is available online. One is from Canada and is called "Daily Mass." Fr. Henk Van Meile is my favorite homilist from that mass.
I wish he had a refrigerator and could get a few things to keep in it... I will pray for your husband.
God bless and protect your precious family and bring you back together safely in joy. Hugs.
This is an opportunity to learn humility ... we are all the same God looks at every human as the same and maybe forces those who think more about themselves and think they are better than others to become humble ... in the whole scheme of things nothing matters but Love ...of God and thy Neighbors and family ... it’s a hard time but perhaps the best learning experience. I’m senior citizen so I can’t go out a lot
But I have faith and ask you to pray for me too Fr Mike 🙏😊
@The Kidney And The Stone This is the best time for Jesus to come back.
Thank you for your prayers father Mike. I work in Mental Health and our patient need us more than ever. i just pray to God that I don't get sick or pass something on to my elderly father that i take care of. He cries everyday when i leave for work. It breaks my heart to see him in such a state so i ask for strength to continue my mission to help others.
I have a friend who works in a mental hospital. It is so hard for the patients to have to eat in their little rooms alone and to stand 6 feet apart in the meds line. My friend is horrified of getting sick. Your dad, that breaks my heart! God's grace and plenty of courage to you.
The question you must ask yourselves is, 'What is the Lord trying to teach me during this time of solitude?"
He is calling us for a soul - searching:)
Maybe Jesus is asking me why you had done that why you are part of approving abortion Today media is giving us the latest news every hour how many infected how many dead But why media doesn't say anything about how many millions of unborn children are gone since the aprovel of abortion so we really need to question ourselves what's God is trying to tell me Nice day

I live in South Korea, so we were one of the first countries affected. I haven’t had mass all Lent season, last mass I was able to attend was Monday before Ash Wednesday. I won’t lie, I was a bit disappointed our bishops made the decision to cancel all mass services, and even talked to family and few friends about how I thought I would have done things... three weeks later, two after lockdown... Korea has been by far the best implementing actions to prevent the spread of the virus... I believe now that when I encounter the unfamiliar it’s easier to become a critic.. I asked God for forgiveness and I’m now definitely thankful for the wise decision our bishops have taken. God give us peace, charity and understanding in this difficult time.
I thought youtube was illegal in south korea

Thank you for your honesty, humility and sharing.
May this unknown length of time apart from the Holy Mass, the Adoration chapel, and the Sacraments start a new fire in all Catholics when this is over. 🙏🏼
Amen Ginny, but rather than wait until it is over, let's start right now. God Bless.

Been praying for humility in these times.
Oh boy, careful, ask and you will receive! Humility is the point of all of this, He is calling us to turn back to Him.
Yes, very narcissistic times!
Humility means truth (in the Lord). In Christ, Andrew
Humility? Have you been hoarding toilet paper?
@@efandmk3382 Humility mean truth or more precisely, the truth of who we are or are not with the Lord. Hoarding toilet paper or anything else is irrelevant. Be charitable dude, we all need it right now. In Christ, Andrew
I went and parked outside my church today at the back near the tabernacle and made a spiritual communion. I appreciate the local churches that are putting daily Mass and Sunday Mass on RUclips and/or Facebook.
Christina Aguirre
Nice idea
I did the same thing-blessed to have a priest who suggested this and is working to find ways to help us worship at home and pray as a community. 🥰
And you needed to be physically close to the tabernacle to do this?
Michael Anderson
i guess it makes them feel better.
You’re darn tootin’ it does...I believe in Christ’s True Presence, so if taking the time to be as physically close to Him as I can be helps me, who are you to criticize? FYI it also makes me feel better to pray at home in front of our family altar, which I do often. Sadly, this is what we’re left with, so I’m doing all I can.
Father Mike- thank you. I was reminded today about spiritual pride. I’m like so many faithful people who can’t imagine their life without the Eucharist, without the mass. I’ll admit that I need to self evaluate. I know you’ll be praying for all of us. We all need to be humble and grateful no matter what. It’s not over yet. God bless you! 🙏🏼✝️🙏🏼🌎🌍
It's our duty to protect the ones that are the most vulnerable. God wants us to obey our bishops and priests. We can also pray a for spiritual communion with Christ. Don't be afraid..just keep saying Jesus I trust in you.
I haven't even watched this all the way through yet and I just want to say thanks for speaking out and encouraging us. It is so good to receive comfort and support from spiritual leaders like you.
If you fully submit yourself to God and his Will for you, there is nothing we will fear. No matter the chaos have peace in your heart and the best way for me, Pray the Rosary not just once a day but as often as you can, pray 10 rosary's a day if you have to, just feel the peace in your heart.
DanInspiration Hail Mary
Mary have mercy on us ! Please people pray it’s not late for praying 🙏 🙏😔
Brothers and sisters in Christ, we will get through this together. Blessings
Thank you Fr. Mike. I feel pain in my heart because when were are told missing mass is a mortal sin we learn to accept it and love it, so when it can't happen after you've been going non stop for yrs, its very painful. I feel greatful for being healthy and for not being persecuted that eventually things will go back to narmal and we will be able to worship our king of kings. I love you Jesus and miss you so much in the holy Eucharist 🙁

You are only obliged to receive the
Eucharist once a year, during Easter
Season. But this obligation will
probably be suspended for this year.
With some notable exceptions, regular
Holy Communion was actually basically
unheard of before the Papacy of
Saint Pius X. (1903-14)
It's perfectly normal and acceptable
in the tradition of the Church to
refrain from receiving for an extended
period if you have good reason. And if
your Bishop is suspending public Mass,
you have good reason. (Obedience.)

My family has been going through this hell on earth for two months. My brother lives in China and has been on lockdown that whole time. The best thing you can do for everyone is stay home. Thanks father mike.
remember the story of the drowning man. he refused helps from people by saying "No thanks, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.". he died then went to heaven. he finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, "I had faith in you but you didn't save me, you let me drown. I don't understand why!"
To this God replied, "I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?".
God has given us knowledge to understand biology, virology and anything we could possibly know about the earth and living things. That's why we've been able to improve our medicine and able to develop vaccine to save people. if you're gonna be like that drowning man, refusing the help or the knowledge from your fellow because you want God to save you, please think back.
Well said! Thank you!
May God protect and bless you, Susanne! :)
This is a great example of putting faith in ourselves and the hands of other people and not towards God Himself. In the story it states why God did not save the man but wait, didn’t he end up in Heaven? Is that not being saved? It’s sad that we live our lives wanting to save our lives and not fearing Judgement Day rather than willing to freely lose our lives for God to save us?? Seems like your missing the mark.
Matthew 16:25, “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.”
What upsets me is that I always tell my children “you always have your faith and Mass to help you get through the hard times” then I sat back and realize that my Spiritual Faith can not be taken and that Mass will start up again and we will be grateful.
I would assume given the importance of the situation that not going to mass for really any length of time, particularly any time that prevents a choice; it's no issue.

Thank you Father Mike. You have helped me through so much coming back to my faith. You have helped me get through alcoholism, SSA, and so much more. In Singapore, the masses have been cancelled since mid February. Our archbishop made a very good decision for our catholics because most people attending the masses were older people and people at risk. So even though younger people may not get very affected, we need to think about our older community and be compassionate to them. Honestly, the virus can spread when people are asymptomatic, so it's not an over reaction, its actually honestly a late reaction to what we already saw happen in China. The numbers in the US are not representative of the true number of people who are infected. So I think what the bishops are doing in the US is a good thing. That is good leadership. And now, all catholics can appreciate the mass more and take part in spiritual communion at home. Catholics who have not attended mass in church for years, are actually tuning in to the mass online and this is a blessing. Stay safe Fr Mike! Praying for you and all our catholic priests, bishops and our Papa Francisco at this time.

“We have the *luxury* of being critics because we don’t the *responsibility* of having to make a decision.” 👏
Many churches have outside grotto's with Holy statues. Our church has one of the Blessed Virgin Mary draped in an assortment of rosary beads. It has two welcoming benches and a kneeler and faces the forest. The air is always filled with the sound of birds and the wind in the trees. This week has been grey, cold and gloomy, quite fitting for the time we're in, but if you want some fresh air and a peaceful place to pray the Rosary or just mediate in peace, seek out a church that has a grotto tucked away in the back. It's provides a beautiful sanctuary for communion with the God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and our Blessed Mother.
It's so sad we had a Holy Mary Grotto in the Catholic school from the 40's and they took it down. And there is still room for it. Why they took it down is a mystery.
Thanks Father !
Thank you Fr.Mike ❤
Thank you for this because I know I’m not the only one who has freaked out in these past couple of weeks, especially in regards to churches closing.
Hundreds of thousands of people are going to die in this pandemic, and of the starvation that it causes.. The US will have it's share of casualties. When it's over, we will be in the midst of a global depression that will be generational. Nothing will ever be the same again in our lifetimes. Don't your concerns about the church closures seem a little silly now? God lives in you. Not in your brick and mortar church building.
I'm glad to see Ascension Presents responding to this! I really enjoy what he has to see here. As I priest, I and the rest of the clergy here have to make some tough calls right now. I don't think people are always realizing how tough this situation is for us. I could have never imagined closing our church and stopping mass before now.
A lot of flights. Climate change doesnt seem to be on his mind.
Yes. I find it very hard because quarantine has prevented me and my family to not be allowed to go to church and receive the most holy and precious body and blood of Christ. God bless.

Thank you for praying for the world. We need powerful prayers...all of us need to pray deeply. 🙏🙏🙏. God Bless you all.
I was doing so well with struggle with purity. This social isolation has taken away many of my coping methods. 😭
Asking for prayers it feels kinda hopeless right now.
The Lord will carry you on eagle's wings and Our Lady will keep you under her mantle. God bless you 🙏❤😘
I will pray for you. I really miss the sacraments, especially Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist.
Please take it one day at a time. Do not let your past sins shame you from going back to God. Anything that keeps you from seeking and loving God is from the devil. God loves you at your worst the same way He loves you at your best. Keep trying and fighting. Never give up! Because God will never give up on you.
Long walks.
Quarantine can be a christian retreat. It makes Lent more solemn and intense. Stay safe everyone.
Praise God!

Hi Mark. A friend from church sent an email to me the other day about the chain of one million "Hail Mary's." I said that I would join in daily, however, I offered her this suggestion, "Imagine if each of us prayed one Rosary per day toward this intention which has 53 'Hail Mary's!'" In any event, I am on board. Count me in! God Bless.
How can I get in that chain?

Thank you Father.
More prayer, more family unity, more mercy/helping others.
During these trying times of testing we can always put our trust on God regardless of the situations we face in our lives for God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power , love, and a sound mind; Do not fear or panic but learn to stay calm Father Mike what you can do is pray for all the Doctors and Nurses and health givers across this nation whom are overwhelmed and stress out due to the Corona virus Pandemic May God keep them strong and safe so that they can continue to do their jobs . Thanks Father Mike take care and God bless you and your loved ones. If my people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways ; then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their Land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Thank-you Father Mike I enjoy starting my day with your sermon thanks
Thanks Father Mike
Our planet is our home, where we spend our earthly lives contributing towards the growth of Lord's kingdom.
We must safeguard life from the threat of a widespread disease.
Jesus is the King we owe responsibility towards giving back for the growth of lord's kingdom.
Sorry brother, Heaven is our true home. We are just sojourners here. Stay saved, sanctified, and safe in the Lord. In Christ, Andrew
Andrew thanks for the correction.🤗
Glad it helped brother 🕊
Jesus is a prophet.
@@AG-wb3db Don't start with that nonsense. Prophets don't lie about who they are. Jesus is the Son of the living God and our King. In Christ, Andrew
Please pray for hospital workers, retail workers, and anyone who's losing income
Thank you so much Father for your reflection on the importance of this time. You are a blessing in my life
A message many of us need to hear, me especially.
Father Mike please pray for my husband Michael who is exposed to many people. He works at a grocery store and we have 4 children at home between ages 2mo-8yrs old. May our Lord shield us from this virus.
He will be ok. Firstly he believes in the father almighty. Therefore he will be absolutely fine. Secondly the Corona virus is a trick from the devil and it's not real. It's all trauma based mind control. Problem reaction solution that's it. God bless you and stay strong.
@@DrStrange1000 "Firstly he believes in the father almighty. Therefore he will be absolutely fine" so why exactly did my mate's grandfather die in agony? the guy knew practically everything about the bible and believed in it wholeheartedly? and if COVID-19 isn't real, what exactly has killed 1,000,000+ people? You are clearly delusional and using faith to justify it.
@@smnodeal4622 😂😂So you are basing 'millions' of people dying on what the television or radio tell you??! Have you looked at the CDC's statistics on mortality rates this year??? No one is dying from covid.. do your research!!
Your poor mates grandfather (RIP) passed away because the fuckers in the hospital put him on a ventilator that will then kill a patient. Why do you think every hospital gets $39k incentives EACH when they opt for a ventilator.
WAKE UP before you get indoctrinated!
@@DrStrange1000 Oh no, he didn't die in hospital, he swore by the bible that he would be ok, don't need no doctors or ventilators, his lungs were eaten from the inside because he refused to seek medical attention, all of your criteria were filled, then why exactly was he killed by COVID-19?
@@smnodeal4622 You doughnut, he wasn't killed from covid 19. He passed away from another illness. Who is feeling you it's covid 19? The TV? The doctor? ..and you blindly just accept it? Of course he will say he's fine, that's the fighter in him. He's with God now and quite frankly I'm done with arguing. Continue being scared, your choice. But your grandfather wasn't.
The fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris also happened during Lent last year on Saturday before Palm Sunday. Interesting coincidence that both happened during Lent, time of penance and repentance or more than just a coincidence.
hankgolfer1 God is crying 😢 for us to turn to him in repentance and prayer daily not just sporadically
@@marydethjudge118 Very well said. Exactly. God wants us to turn to him daily in prayer.
We all need pray the rosary the beautiful gift we have in our catholic religion ..at work at home where ever..May God bless all of you 🙏
Thank you, Father!
It's hard to say because we never been faced with this problem before.....so we need to sit it out hopefully we survive it
