  • Superstar Limo only lasted a year opening with Disney California Adventure as the anchor of the Hollywood Backlot - it was panned by critics and guests alike, often considered the worst attraction Disney ever made! However, you will be surprised to see how much of the ride lives on to this day as part of Monsters Inc. Mike and Sully to the Rescue, the beloved dark ride which took its place. Enjoy this side by side video comparing Superstar Limo from 2001 and Monsters Inc. from 2021, shot for shot.
See if you can find the updated figures and locations still used in todays wonderful ride as you watch the ridethrough!

Never rode superstar limo. After seeing this video it doesn't look like I missed much. It's amazing how little Disney changed the actual ride. It seems they mostly changed the characters and paint. I really enjoy the monsters inc ride. Thanks for the side by side comparison.

Right? I love Monsters Inc. but it floors me how little it took to just completely transform the ride. Thanks as always!

If you guys didn’t know, the superstar limo animatronics is what’s underneath the animatronics in the yellow suits. The only difference is that they don’t have their heads anymore. And the taxis are just the limos repainted to make them look like taxis.

Cool detail. Yeah you can see Drew Carey's animatronic replaced by the yellow suit guy holding Boo's picture and the Jackie chan one on the guy on top of the van holding the rope.

Thanks for making this video Disneyland Beat! Superstar Limo was definitely in my book the biggest mishap from DCA 1.0. The attraction did not feel like Disney at all and it clearly showed, especially since the ride only lasted around 11 months. Monsters Inc, though one of the more simple dark rides on Disney’s roster, is a major improvement. Still a favorite for us at the parks even after all these years. 😃

Thanks for the great comment. Superstar Limo was something else. From an artistic standpoint, I always crack up at the painting of the crowd you see right before you get to 'Hollywood' - it just looks like so many youth theatre productions I have been a part of. 😄

Love your side by sides. Superstar lameo wasn't much to miss. Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and Mr. Toad's are still the best dark rides. Thanks for posting....

Omg! I forgot how horrible the Superlimo ride was. It was just a promo for ABC shows and celebrities back in the day. So glad its Mike and Sully now lol 😁

Thanks. Yes its fun seeing these side by side, Monsters is so much better but uses quite a bit of the former ride. Interesting. 😀

Yeah, there’s way too many people that never got to ride it due to it closing just 1 year after opening.

Superstar limo looked so cheaply put together. Unlike how detailed the monsters inc ride is.

I went on superstar limo when it first opened I wrote it a couple of times I am glad and I’m fortunate to ride that because after a year they closed it.

You know the ride's bad when all it takes to make it good is to kitbash everything and rework it to a different brand.
The little (relative) work it takes there.

I wonder for all eternity why doesn’t he thought this limo ride was a good idea that looks like the underworld compared to the other one

Don't tell Walt, but one time, I went under the pole to take a pic by the telephone for the monster Inc Ride. Lol..
Another time for monster a cast member let me ride without getting off. And there was one time cast member notices I was one and let me ride in the special need line. And Ross or whatever her name is, she always speaks to me. Lol. I missed old school Disneyland, and I missed being AP smh. I am so mad at Disneyland to some degree still with that magic key..smh.
But if it is Lords, will I be seeing my girl Tiana? I hope so and Mickey on March 31st. My special holiday. ♥️
    Thanks, Disneyland Beat 💓

Thats awesome! I look forward to seeing if Roz is live that ride or not. My favorite part about a ride thats really just a big ol warm hug from an old friend. Hope you get a magic key that works for you - I get being upset about that, its a big shift.

Superstar limo was high camp and such a cult classic disaster lol. It was a good idea for DCA original idea being a Epcot of CA but wasn’t what ppl wanted. Not DCA is a place with little originality left just movie rides……

Agreed. Grizzly River Run might have the best original backstory that remains!!
