It was going to be a roller coaster type ride where you are escaping the paparazzi but after Princess Diana died that exact same way they needed a quick fix.
I think it was a good ride to introduce the idea of a California themed theme park but as a celebrity themed ride keeping this ride up to date would've been ridiculous
In this ride´s defense, it was never supposed to be like this. Originally, the ride would be about you, a Hollywood Superstar, being late to your premier, and the taxi trying to get you there as fast as possible and trying to avoid the poparazzi. Although the reason why the ride was changed because they were afraid people would associate it with the recent death of Princess Diana. Now I don´t think even having this idea come to plan could save this ride, but to not give it the slightest bit of leeway, even if a smidge, for to it´s development issue, is kind of unfair.

The monsters inc conversion definately paid off. Its now a ride that has short likes and is a good time to rest your feet in air conditioning but in an enjoyable ride.
I had no idea the Monsters Inc ride used to be this disaster. This explains some of the oddities of Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!, but overall, the newer ride is amazing. I'm also glad they re-themed DCA because the old theme was lame, even for people visiting from out of state. The park has come a long way since opening and some days, I end up just going to DCA only and not Disneyland.
I swear I watched this before going to bed and when I woke up I remembered this but thought it was only a dream so when I saw this in my RUclips history it was a bruh moment
The irony of it all. This ride now looks better than most rides today. Virtual-screen ride experiences are now replacing animatronic-style rides and it's horrifying.😢
it's like the unwanted expansion of the Land of Confusion video by Genesis that not even Adult Swim would neither touch or allow for someone like Eric Andre or Tim & Eric to create an adaptation of.
I couldn’t help but think that if this ride still existed they would have to update it every decade with Hollywood’s next generation of stars. Would be funny to go on it now and see Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland, Zendaya, etc.
Even at the time this opened, all of the "stars" were limited to people who were under contract to ABC, thus why it depicted such a random array of C-listers with the occasional big name.
@@night6724 They aren't under contracts specifically with Disney tho. These weren't even necessarily the 'top' stars of the day, they were mostly C or D list TV actors who with under contract with ABC.

It's too bad that Michael Eisner's favorite ride had it's negative reception and it's forced to be away in 2002. I really liked this ride, even though the puppet in the queue area and the video screen was kinda creepy, I love that they had California references and even celebrities that I know and love.
Glad to know I'm not the only one that liked it, my mom and I had and annual pass when I was 7 and we went on it every time we visited while it was there. My mom loves celebrity culture so it probably made her amused.

When my Dad and I visited California Adventure when it first opened. We were disappointed how that park turned out. But I will say, I wish we could of seen this ride. We probably would of not only lived it but laughed our buns off until we passed out. 💀💀💀💀💀
I thought joan rivers was creepy but outside of that the show was pretty warming and took the creepiness of life and just made it work and get me to the right place of appreciation and moving to my life.

See Spiderman re-writing the ending after 911. It was dumb at the time....and suffers even more now.
It uses a lot of 90s aesthetic which was still around during development...mixed with some early 2000s styling. It just looks like someone really tried to make something the "kids" would like.
