The song is about adrenaline, specifically the adrenaline that got put into Nikki Sixx's heart to restart it after a drug overdose.

1:02 That is Sam Kinison driving the car. You really need to check out "Wild Thing" music video by him and the boys. (Sam was a comedian, raunchy style) The video has all the rock stars in it (Slash, Billy Idol, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, and so many more).

MC's '82's "Shout at the Devil" & '86's "Wild Side" are hella cool badass jams with deep dark lyrics that weren't equaled until Slayer's Death Metal! & so The Crue weren't just Glam: they really rocked!

@@lucaswilson1701 Iam pretty sure he means the heavy riffs , and lyrics such as Shout at the Devil . Not the physical image of the band . They always get thrown in with Poison and those bands . It's not really true . Compare a song like unskinny bop to Knock em dead . One is pop the other heavy rock . Even Tom Araya is on video in the early 80's singing to a song from Shout at the Devil .

The Crue had tons of hits and they were by far the most successful hair band and then became even more metal. Notoriously wild partiers. I worked security for concerts back then and was able to go back to hotel room and watch the craziness. Check out studio version of Sick Love Song. A little less known but they usually always played in concert. Awesome riff.

The story behind this one wild. As others have said, bass player Nikki Sixx overdosed on heroin at a party and literally died. In the ambulance the paramedics gave him two shots of Epinephrine (adrenaline) straight into his heart with the first being standard procedure and the second because why the hell not? They couldn't make him any more dead than he already was. Well, that second shot worked and literally kickstarted his heart. He spent that night in the hospital, woke up in the morning, checked himself out against doctor recommendations, went home, cooked up the largest shot of heroin he'd ever done (larger than the one that literally killed him just hours earlier), then shot it up and passed out. After that it was clear that he needed help, but Motley Crue was the biggest party band in the 80's and that's saying something. It was clear that he wouldn't be able to get clean and stay in Motley while they were living that lifestyle so they all went and got clean together, although their manager cancelling their up coming European tour because he was sure "some of them would come back in body bags" also helped push them into that decision. After that some of them got into motorsports and learned to be racecar drivers as a way to get a somewhat less dangerous high, as referenced by "high on speed" from the song. In fact, they helped MTV organize a televised celebrity road race back in the early 90's that Vince won and Vince also went on to briefly and controversially race Indy cars (controversial because Vince literally killed somebody while drunk driving years earlier). As for other Motley songs, everybody is going to recommend the radio hits like Girls Girls Girls, but those are mostly party songs and some of their best work is found in the songs that weren't radio hits. Public Enemy #1, Starry Eyes, On With the Show, Danger, All in the Name of, and You're All I Need are some of their most artistic work and with the last two both have wild stories as well.

Check out a video called The Rise And Rise Of Motley Crue. Its a documentary style video, and they talk to various family and friends of the band members and kind of tell how they got in the band and eventually more famous than anyone imagined. And of course all the debauchery that happened along the way. Except guitarist Mick Mars. He was considerably older than the other 3, and while Nikki, Vince and Tommy were partying in Hollywood, Mick was at home with his wife and kids. Motley Crue was strictly a business for Mick Mars.

Oh Millie, u missed Motley Crue doing a UK stadium tour in 2023 w/ Def Leppard (it was not sold out)... Motley Crue's 1989 album 'Dr. Feelgood' is one of the best rock records EVER 🤘🤘
'Kickstart my heart' was about Nikki Sixx (bass) of Motley dying from a he+++n OD back in 1987 (Sixx had no heartbeat when medics arrived) and paramedics somehow revived him w/ adrenalin shots to his heart.
Other songs from the record to check out - 'Dr. Feelgood' ... "Don't do away mad (Just go away)" ... "Same ol' situation"...
