How would you compare this to the bmw m340i? That seems to be the closest competition and from what I gather the leader of the luxury sport segment. Great review guys!
MB appears to have a system similar to that of BMW. BMW has added a non-defeatable stop-start to its straight 6 turbo, and was recently seen in X5 M40 tests. In general, I will not tolerate any add-ons which interfere with my driving pleasure. A non-defeatable stop-start is not in any performance car tradition. Years ago, Saab offered a similar system on its 99 sedans. It was called "freewheeling." This also stunk, but could be turned off. I understand that BMW's hybrid generator can be turned off when you select the performance mode next to the gear selector switch. Does MB offer the same kind of mode which will disengage its ridiculous non-defeatable stop-start system?
Sorry it’s no 2014 c63s coupe… certainly no black version. They have to get fuel efficient I get it. But I IMMEDIATELY disengage Auto Start/Stop on my 2016 so I would never get to experience the “benefit” of the EQ drive. I need to go the moment I press the gas pedal, no spooling the cvt, no spinning up a turbo, no restarting the engine, I want 100% available power immediately… and while that sounds rare and alpha today, it was standard on even the 2012 c350 naturally aspirated coupe. As of 2020 forward, Mercedes is all looks and no experience in my opinion… but maybe I’m just getting old an miss the volume button.😂
Deal breakers for me would of course be the purchase price. The service costs are outrageous. Even IF I could afford this vehicle, further deal breakers for me are that terrible clamshell centre console lid. They are utterly useless. Anyone who is barely average-sized has to literally be outside the vehicle to be able to actually access it properly. Another deal breaker for me is that gear shift stalk. I've always hated that thing. Way too much piano black on the touch surfaces too. Most of the time, your audio test samples faithfully reproduce the sound system quality.
