Thanks, Teela! I really like this tutorial. At 5:45 when you begin to make same color selections and uniting them using pathfinder, you can save some clicking by using the Magic Wand Tool (Y) OR you can first select the shape that is the color you want to unite, then go to the upper menu "Select>Same>Fill Color". Bam. All the same colors are selected, and you can unite them in one go. Hope this helps somebody out! Of course, some projects will require the more manual way. Best wishes!
Good tip, alternately you save even more time and select everything and click the "Merge" button in the Pathfinder panel, this will unite everything with unique appearances into separate objects. It also knocks out the background of overlapping objects leaving you with clean art.
I came across your videos and tutorials last week while looking for help with a pretty basic technique -> text on paths. I have watched many of your videos and have learned many different techniques. All of which previously seemed so intimidating and difficult are now easy and fun! The fact that you can explain these techniques in a short video in itself makes the whole process seem easily executable! And it is! Thank you so much for your help, explanations and videos!!
PLease help - at 2:49 her cursor does a magnification effect as she moves across the letters. How do I switch that on? My cursor is blank as I move over shapes. Thank you!
@@EveryTuesday thanks so much for your reply. Appreciate it! My cursor doesn't make the various letters come up with outline either. I have a feeling that's a preference that's not on. Do you know?
i face a snag... what if my stalk is a group of constituent layers? i clicked the Divide Pathfinder and bam! everything doesn't work the way I wanted it to.

Hey! That effect was added in using my video editing software - it isn't a setting in Illustrator 👍

Use the unite option in the pathfinder first to merge the items into one, then divide from your text 👍
Thanks!
