I bought my D5500 for travel and hiking because of it's light weight and small size. But now I use it for just about everything. Some cameras are better at certain things but the D5500 does everything well in a small package.
Thanks, I just purchased this camera and checked out your video. I wasn't even aware of the touchscreen function and really don't care for it. I'm happy about the flip out screen tho, that makes shooting video a bit easier and as well am glad to hear that this camera offers great quality video even in low light.
Thank you! They are almost identical in most aspects but D5500 has a bit better sensor, longer battery life and touch LCD. It also has better grip shape.
Great Video mate. Thank you. I am planning to buy this camera as a backup to my nikon D750. I am a wedding photographer who is planning to get into videos as well. I want to stick to Nikons for video as well as I have invested in the lenses already. What do you suggest about ?
D5500 is an excellent camera; small, light and with probabaly the best APS-C sensor today. D7200 has the same sensor, you might want to look into that one for better ergonimcs, but I would go for D5500 as a backup camera - cheaper and smaller. Video looks really good, check the samples on the links in description, especially the last two (night videos) since you will work in low light at most weddings. Last video was ISO 3200, the one before that (with tramway) I think around ISO 1000, and that was with slow F/3.5-5.6 lens.
Hi, Very nice video.. I'm planning to buy D5500 but confused which Kit lens to buy. Here I have only these option 18-55VRII, 18-105VR, 18-140VR or 55-200MM f4-5.6 G. I don't think kit lens are good. I also wanna buy 50mm f1.8G. which combination will good D5500 Body + 50mm 1.8G. D5500 Body + 50mm 1.8G + tamron sp af 70-300 f/4-5.6 di vc usd lens D5500 Body + 50mm 1.8G + 18-140VR I need this camera for hobby, family, holiday or general use.So please suggest me which two lens I shd buy.. Awaiting for your reply.
+Amit Parashar Buy Tamron 17-50/2.8 with or without stabilization (depending on your budget). Very sharp and versatile lens with bright 2.8 aperture. Use it fot some time and then if you feel something's missing get another lens(es). Nikon 35mm/1.8 DX is great all aorund and low light lens. 50mm /1.8G is excellent portait lens. If you decide you need telephoto Tamron 70-300 VR is probably best solution.
Camerahoarders How's the video quality? I watched many review videos about this camera having issues about when shooting video, it actually records that annoying focusing motor which the on-board stereo mic can pick up. which can be a deal breaker for me... Would you still recommend it? I just need a decent camera for projects shooting, etc. thanks!
All cameras catch AF noise to some extenet since most DSLR lenses were not designed for video in the first place. Just use a proper external microphone and you'll be fine. Video looks great, just take a look at my samples.
Camerahoarders Thanks for the reply. Actually Im planning to buy a sony handycam in the first place but many encourage me to go to DSLR instead due to the advantage of changing lenses like that also I could help developing my photography skills and I researched, and found this d5500 is the best entry level dslr in the market.
Depends what you want to record. Video controls are awkward on most Nikon cameras and there are limitations on file length. Auto focus is borderline unusable on most of DSLR camras (not just Nikon). If you want good video look at Panasonic cameras like G7 or the new G80 and only DSLR with good auto focus are the Canons with dual pixel system (70D, 80D, 5Dmk4 and the new M5). Or just stick with a real hadycam.
Thank you.Can you please give some advice regarding shooting videos with both, a prime lens and a nikon 55-200mm VR lens outdoors as I may soon shoot some in an outdoor stadium.. Thanks again.
Get monopod for video and best portability. it will remove most of strong video shake and VR will smoth thing even further. Just be sure is is allowed to enter stadium with monopod. Use manual exposure mode to get consistent video exposure.
+Camerahoarders you said that the camera changes aperture even when in manual mode when you zoom in.out ? is this bug solved or it;s still there... and the live view aperture will always need to exit it if you want to change it. it;s not a bug it;a a hardware limitation, and another thing, if you don;t engage live view, can you change aperture in video mode? ?
5 years? If someone told us in December on one would believe. Also we had an earthquake on Sunday here in Zagreb... crazy year so far. www.bbc.com/news/av/world-51995800/zagreb-hit-by-largest-earthquake-in-140-years

"But Nikon c'mon this is 2015" couldn't help but laugh. Great review!

Again a very competent review, even though it is a very brief one.
All the best!
Great review, quite comprehensive for its length
This is a great stills camera I have had it for a month and it is great for urban street photographs great images.
One can change (when in manual mode) the aperature and shutter speed by way of the command dial and the command7 +_ button, even in live mode as well
Hi, I wonder if this camera has ZEBRA or any type of these things in order to work well with a Chroma key. Greetings from Argentina, good video!
Good review,, straight to the point with everything.
best review..short and sweet.. one question.. is it a good touch screen?what u felt?
Prabhat Humagain Yes, its good, but Canon's touch LCD feels a bit more responsive and precise. Not a big difference but it is there.
Prabhat Humagain Why does everyone want touchscreen? personally, I hate it. (I am a casual hobby photographer.)
Don't ask me, I also prefer buttons, but people nowadays like touch LCD more.
Nice review. Helped me a lot with my decision making process. Thank you.
I do mainly video. I picked up body only on eBay for 350, and a Rokinon 35mm Cine lens...Excellent results
When will we get clean HDMI out?
The 7200 crops 1.3x for 1080p 60fps mode. Does this mean it will be worse in low light due to using less sensor?
Thanks for the information. Keep up the awesome work!!!
Beautiful video sir.please tell me which is better nikon d5500 or nikon d5300?
Thank you! They are almost identical in most aspects but D5500 has a bit better sensor, longer battery life and touch LCD. It also has better grip shape.
the video is fantastic and going for the cam

Nice Review. Would you recommend this DSLR as my 1st dslr?
Yeah, it should be great!

d5300 or d5500 for sports?!
Great information. But please speak a little slower as newbies like me have to struggle to follow the tech jargon.
+Rohinton Nazir OK, I'll try to do that :)

Great video
Great camera as a first DSLR
Great battery life on this camera
How to reduce focus noise and auto focus speed?? Its harassing me when shooting, its very slow focus speed.
Noise can be reduced with external microphone. Slow focus can be solved by buying Canon with dual pixel AF system.
Camerahoarders buying canon means u want to say i am buy another canon dslr camera or lens what u want to say..
It means Nikon doesn't have good auto focus in video mode.
Which one is better
nikon 7200d or nikon 5500d
for pictures
answer please
They have the same image quality, D5500 is more compact, D7200 has better ergonomics and more controls and advanced features. Choose one.
Thank soo much for answering me
Maybe I'll buy nikon 7200d
dobra recenzija, samo malo naglasak treba popraviti ;)
can I put a metabone on this camera
+ruffdraft No, metabones adaptors are for mirrorless cameras
Can you shot monochrome in raw mode
+ruffdraft Yes and no. Color settings are not hard coded into RAW file, so later you can turn the photo back to color if you want.
Good video.
thank you, well done video.
simply informative ........!
Thank you
which is batter d5500 or t6i in overal?
+Bp Rijal Still haven't used T6i... D5500 probably still has better sensor in terms of dynamic range, but Canon has better system of lenses.
+Camerahoarders thanks for response.
which one
nikon 7200d or nikon 5500d
please the answer
What do you need it for? What will you shoot?
I need it for picture !!
Camerahoarders
I bought mine for 600 last week and it came with a extra 400 dollar lens for free. Couldn't be happier.
good job
I knew you were from Croatia just by listening to your English hehehe. Zagreb. =)
+Žiga Lausegger Lol :)

It is not solved, Nikon doesn't seem to care about bad live view handling.
Camerahoarders yeah but can you change aperture when you are not in live view mode? and you are just shooting from the vizor ?
5 years ago... who would have thought that 5 years from than we would be in home quarantine ^^ and the public live would be nonexistent...
5 years? If someone told us in December on one would believe. Also we had an earthquake on Sunday here in Zagreb... crazy year so far. www.bbc.com/news/av/world-51995800/zagreb-hit-by-largest-earthquake-in-140-years
Why no more GPS?!?
it's useless.
In your opinion..., for me it is very useful!
Nice
Interesting bro
23.5 x 15.6 mm sensor.
