I think most of us watch this channel for the light-hearted tomfoolery, and relaxed vibe. Yet every now and again you show us how good of a rider you are: breaking down a complex skill and making it work in a pretty small amount of attempts. Great to watch.
Actually, that little plant with spikes is a really good publicity for his jerseys, because after that one big crash right into the plant, the jersey did not fall in pieces. What is a big plus for us. Another great video guys btw. That new feature is incredible.🔥👏
Pauper perspective: looks like the signpost has a bit of give in it that was sucking out some of your momentum coming off of it, no? Maybe you could reinforce the back with another 2x4 like you did with the surfboard, to give it more rigidity. Might make both popping off it, and maneuvering the bike with your foot planted, more easy. Anyhow, your perseverance and tenacity in these kind of brutal, trick learning sessions is always astounding!
First thing that came to mind after his first full on attempt. If he would brace that post, he would get so much more push off power and, therefore, much more momentum to clear the lip of the landing. Would make it much cleaner as well.
Also it needs a bit of angle on it instead of being vertical. Would allow you to push up and outward instead of just out. Also easier to plant your foot onto.
Stoked for you Matt! You can tell by the way everyone's gathered recording this was a truly techy maneuver. Hat's off! Thanks for the playground and everything you guys do. ❤
Matt has been such an inspiration for me and I’m sure for so many more people. I started skateboarding 3 weeks ago at the age of 36. I see Matt try all these tricks and sometimes he stacks multiple times but keeps going and going. Being new to skateboarding I have had my fair share of stacks but Matt has inspired me to get back up, dust myself off and go again. Appreciate you brother 🤘🏻
I know perhaps they aren't always as fun to film, but I find the videos where Matt is really pushing himself super compelling. Like the 1080, the behind the scenes of the flip gainer and this. Nothing but mesmerized respect from Denmark
Hey :) you've spoken about how exposed you are when doing the trick. I'd like to recall my previous mention instead of the surf board: An inclined bowl. One could train to whip around without losing ground contact. Especially with the surfboard being so slippery at the riding-session, it may would be an idea to revisit. Though of corse the playground has to feel like its "your project". So please just see it as just an reminder/suggestion/question. No expectations from my side. Just enjoy watching the road you are heading on 😊 Best wishes to y'all
Matt, For after the 4 hips options thing on sideline, you should build a left berm or hip that puts you inline for the landing of the big right hip on mainline. Then you could jump back onto mainline and jump off the landing onto the hill as a step-up.
Love this! Compound and Playground content is always awesome but it's the progression sessions (Gainer/Hitching Post/HP front flip etc) that are just a joy to watch, not because everything has the distinct whiff of Hospital about it (but they usually do) but because your metal and physical process is super inspiring, especially with Ben's added support and encouragement. Keep on pushing!
Mate honestly watching you graft out a new trick reminds me what action sports are all about, congrats on the new weapon in your arsenal, thoroughly deserved!
You should call that one 'The Hip Replacement' judging by the slams.. lol.. On a serious point, cut that thorn bush down in case you get a thorn in the eye...
OHHHH MY GOD!!! That was so sick!!! With every crash, not only did I feel for Matt I was hurting bad for the damage on that beautiful Alcatraz!! It’s honestly unbelievable seeing what you can do on a bike. When most of us struggle to jump off a curb, seeing you send it twice a week is so inspiring!! Legends
I love this series and all your building videos, and this was such a nice change of pace. This is the type of stuff I feel you can't see anywhere else. Your experience and passion make this a special video. Really engaging stuff and sick, sick trick. Ben's encouragement was on point as well. Really nice stuff you guys
Amazing mate!!!! That was so sick!!! My 5 year old and I watched this video together. It was nice explaining to him that you were practising and practising to get it right.
Hey Matt. I just want to say that you are awesome. Shout out to you man. With the first trick it was great to see how happy you were learning it. You made quick progress and it was rewardable. Even tho the second trick was harder and it was mentally challenging and you got a little mad and upset. You never gave up. Always in the right mindset. Keep it up bro. Inspire fellow MTBers like my self 👍👌🏼🚵
So glad your getting the diggers in more than hand dig. Hand digging is great but using the digger etc gives you more time to ride and land tricks like In this video.
What the hellllllllll dude!!! That was so gnarly I’m genuinely surprised it was possible. You know something’s gone down when Ben gives up a proper handshake. So sick!
Incredible! That was the most tense 3-4 minutes to end of video with, haha. End of my damn seat the whole time and actually jumped up from my desk when you landed it! Well done Matt! You know its getting serious when Ben stops making jokes behind the camera.
This is 1 million percent my favourite feature and trick I’ve seen you nail! Such a cool trick. The only thing that could make this cooler is some kind of caveman drop in!!! Awesome work!!!!
thats why you have the red bull helmet! but in all serious the clip you showed us was more of a flip because he kept going relatively straight, what youre doing is tricky because you need the speed to get up there but not so much speed that your one leg cant absorb and rebound, well done that was proper! day 4 of demanding that ben gets to spike the edging tool and cause the explosion, hes definitely earned it
I have an Idea for what to build next You could build a hip next to the nollie pad jump which could have the quarter pipe as a landing Love the vid by the way!!
So sick to see you go to war with a trick and pull it, awesome to see how dialled you have that quater now with all those attempts at the downside footplant also being practice at airing the dirt quater!!!
I hit a jump one time and landed in a blackberry bush worse then breaking my collar bone I think. Sick video and a really cool feature to ride 🔥 Edit: this man's perseverance is insane I think I would have given up after the fourth time
@@DankoleClouds yes lol it was huge and I landed right in the middle of and deep down had to crawl out I think in terms of long term pain collar bone wins easy but in the moment that black berry bush was the worst
Not sure why I got such a kick outta watching you try the right foot haha. Thanks for the laugh. Keep up the good work thommy gun, an he lands it! Champion
Haven't been following long but as a former injured Canadian mx/bike rider i love your videos. I know there's like zero chance this gets read but if it does one of the sickest line entrances or middle air areas with speed would be deadly for a toilet bowl type wall...and not just any bowl, build it like a school kid In a sandbox with a spoon...make it go through the ground and be like something we have never seen!!! Keep the videos coming !! Also get Sam Pilgrim out there hell do it I one go 🤟🤙
I would glue a few layers of that ply then put at least 4 bolts through the ply and the beam fix w washers n nuts, then you could cut into some pool noodles and wrap it around the edges to protect the crown jewels? I would be worrid of the ply snapping mid plant then you follow through and smash ya bollox! The Playground is coming together so nicely Matt GG well played.
Awesome new addition. I think the Helfare hip landing needs to be more mellow so it allows for more forgiving landings and the thorn bush needs to go for your safety.
Matt, you coud acctually build like a sizeable Jump and put a big Wooden planks there. So eberytime you Ride it you hava a little Challange of getting higher and higher. I woud love to see that. Love the series mate.
You know you've done something impressive when Ben actually fulfills his end of the handshake. Fair play Matt. That perseverance is inspiring!

Saw that too. A rare completed handshake by Ben and Matt.

Yeah a diagonal brace against the post would help I reckon. Like a strainer post they use on corners of farm fences.
First thing that came to mind after his first full on attempt.
