Should We ENCOURAGE Gambling?

  • Tom Scholey and Dave Roberts can’t quite agree on this one! Is there a place for gambling in our great sport? Capital competitions have taken the internet by storm giving away some HUGE prizes. Tom and Dave give you their thoughts on this rather controversial topic….

    Tried one of these sites that raffles tackle as a one off. Didn’t win anything so never bothered again. What I will say is that I was and still am bombarded with adverts, emails, text messages telling me that there’s a massive prize to be one. Even after blocking the numbers and unsubscribing. I feel that if someone of an impulsive nature was to experience this, it may be just enough to start an addiction.

    Interesting topic. I have gone on the Capital Catch site and brought a number of tickets. Never won a bean. How ever I keep checking the draw results and am amazed by the frequency of certain names appearing as winners. ????. Its down to the individual to decide.

      I’ve given up on that after I calculated they make 3000% profit just on pole rollers! Yep never win but see similar or same names appearing. I never trust digital gambling as these can programmed to create bias results in favour of the betting site/vendor

    Really appreciate you attempting to address the topic. Very surprised at the conclusions though. The model is designed around celebrity anglers making money from other anglers. And i can't see how that is good for the sport. Credit to the entrepreneurs too at the same time who have seen an opportunity and taken it.

    For me it’s having the opportunity, the top anglers mentioned in this video get to fish and practice their skill 3-7 days a week. I’m lucky to fish 7 times a year. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it less than an angler who goes 3-7 days a week.
    It’s nearly impossible to compete in any sport if a part time sportsperson competes against a full time professional.

    Have a punt by all means as long as you can afford to lose - only one winner as with all bookies. Totally agree with Dave Roberts comments that top tier matches are dominated by a very small number of anglers now - about time for a super league if opens are to flourish, Clever marketing from Capital Competitions though targeting a captive audience and relentless advertising. Not for me

    The idea is to give club anglets a chance to have a superday and win something life changing,of course if all the top guys start buying max amount of tickets and end up in these comps itll die off.

  • @paulcastle3757
    @paulcastle3757 Месяц назад +3

    The Preston Match, was only for non professional angler's. So unlike the match that Tom mentioned he wouldn't have been allowed to buy tickets for it.
    I also think that many of the big matches Fish O mania, Maver Match this are priced well above the average angler's pockets and the professional seem to get 20 or more tickets for them which I think is paid for by the sponsor.

    • @anglingescapadeswithdavero2363
      @anglingescapadeswithdavero2363 Месяц назад

      I agree about the cost of the tickets for the big comps although I don’t think any angler has their tickets purchased directly for them by sponsors.
      I would also say that it’s hard to define a professional angler. The number of anglers actually getting paid to go fishing is not huge. Each of the main manufacturers would probably have 2 or 3 full time anglers.
      Interesting topic.👍

    When i first started to see it pop up all over facebook i was disappointed.
    Men already over spend on fishing tackle even myself as a pleasure angler.
    I can see a lot of Anglers getting addicted to this. Just be sensible and when you see a post that some bloke has won TWICE then don't let it suck you in.

    The Angling Trust need to stop these gambling sites, lottery companies and competitions where the prizes are unrealistic, and remove all association with them. There are no "Gamble Aware" warnings so they are in breach of law. Fisho needs to remove their links with the betting companies too. Good riddance to them, because fishing has become more about financial gain than actual fishing.

    I may be wrong but im sure they said during the Preston Final that Capitol never made profit on that (remember there was 1k section prizes every 5 pegs)
    As for the rest of it - I have a flutter every now and again (a fiver here and there). Never won bugger all (like the lottery really 😂), but I do think sometimes that it's profiteering more off those that can't afford it. Perhaps it should be regulated as gambling...

    I've been sucked in by raffles and spent many £1000's, won a few prizes and luckily I can afford it. I've now blocked myself off all the sites and I do worry about those that can't really afford it. Raffles side step gambling laws and they'll cause problems for some people for sure. Making a lot of people rich though!

    If less than half the tickets sell for any itam advertised does the draw still go ahead? Also dont these sites take the possible income fom tackle shops i really dont know where this is all going and tbh long term i can only think its not good.

    On the current main prize theres 1000 instant win prizes but 75000 tickets. Ive bought 13 at £1.99 so spent £25.97 and won a £40 keepnet. In the list of instant winners one bloke has won 13 times, so has either spent a small fortune, is REALLY lucky or something fishy is going on 🤔

    Ive entered numerous comps from catch capital and won kit from a brand new superium x carp pole right down to 5 packs of dura slip elastic. It is entirely luck of the draw. All legitimate and above board.
