Anytime that you have livestock and I don't care what it is cattle sheep hogs goats whatever there is an awful lot of work that falls between tractor rides
Andy , Three Doors Down was a helluva good rock and roll band ! That was the first thing I thought when you were explaining the silo operation . Always enjoy watching your mechanical abilities and how hard you and your kids work !
Just amazed at how many followers you have. 35 minutes after you upload this video and you have @ 1,800 people watching already. Keep up the good content.
Thanks again Andy! It is fun and interesting to see 'who' often does what task and wonder why it is so. When you were fitting pedal adjustments on the Roxor it was obvious Andrew was gonna want to swoop driving anything possible. Your daughters seem to have that base covered as well. All the while someone somewhere is complaining about nepotism, LOL! I see you went with the wireless BT PPE safety squints and dust filter! ;-)
Had to pause the video and go out to the shed and get my respirator, was getting hard to breathe giving me flashbacks to my silo days. After watching even had to take a shower I was itching so bad! Still a great video!
On top of the corn in the silo "Lets Do The Corn Dance Again" was my thought as you cleared the junk on the surface of the corn towards the down shute.
That has to be one of the nastiest jobs to do on your farm Andy. A big vertical climb, crud, plastic and then incredible dust to deal with. Bad for the lungs for sure and a condition known as "Farmers Lung" here in the UK.
Andy, I know it's a pain in the tuckus, but you should seriously consider at least a dust mask. Heck, I get stuffed up just grinding dry corn in the open, and I know what molds are in ground grain that has been stored a while. I know gas isn't an issue in that silo, but dust definitely is.
Man, after the fungal sinus infection I had early this year, when that dust kicked up I held my breath! Don't know if you've had any issues with mold but it was like breathing through a rag soaked with window cleaner all day.
Thanks for sharing Andy. Not to bad a know it all or nose into your business here.. okay? But we always kept a shovel right on the unloaded just for cleaning the junk off the top.. just saying..
I never put corn in a cement silo before because I had the harvestore. Is that what it normally settles when you grind it and put it in there about three doors.
We had a couple of old silo matics with the small 12-15” wheels in hi moisture corn that weren’t bad. They wouldn’t have been too good in haylage or corn silage. We had a patz unloader with the large wheel that came with a farm we bought. Really with that for 2 years and tore the silo down and put it back up here.

Is there a reason why silos don't pull product from the bottom like a regular grain bin? Not a farmer here just enjoy Andy's videos and genuinely curious. Setting up that unloader from the top looks like a huge pain in the ass.
10th Generation Dairyman has various videos using the bottom load silos but they are replacing with top load silos due to maintenance issues with bottom load plus cost per ton to operate advantage of top load over bottom load.
@@FarmingFixingFabricating Thank you for replying Andy I was thinking with it being high moisture corn might have something to do with it but I guess not.
People need to know there is more to farming than the tractor seat. Thank you for the videos.
That’s what my Dad always told me when he was handing me a shovel to clean manure!
Anytime that you have livestock and I don't care what it is cattle sheep hogs goats whatever there is an awful lot of work that falls between tractor rides
Sad thing is that most people won’t understand until they get a little piece of the action. They just can’t fathom what it takes.
@@james-we6fr you are absolutely correct sir
Andy is still The Jack of All Trades & The Master of None
Owner climbs the silo - very impressed !
It's a risky situation, and Andy assumes that risk himself, and doesn't pass it on to anyone else. That's the kind of person you want to work for.
I just wanted to say thank you Andy for doing your videos I look forward to seeing them every time you put one out 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
I have never got to see the operation of a silo unloaded. Thank you very much for the demonstration, Andy.
Brian brownie ate so many TV dinners He had to buy a combine without a steering wheel.
Andy, Nate, and the silo chronicles 👍👍👍👍

Always nice to see how well your family works together
It's is golden to see a family working together. Thanks andy. Florida Joe
When Nate turns the unloader on, wow! That sound takes me back! I no longer have an upright silo.😊 Cool Thanks!👍
That's the most amazing machine I've ever seen inside of a silo. Thanks for showing that to us.👍👍
Can't understand why you have not grown more subscribers by now Andy great videos

Took him forever to go from 80,000 to 100,000. We need people to subscribe!
There should really be more
You should call it The Silo Chronicles
A leader by example! BRAVO Andy
I’m sure some will take exception with being in the silo unloader running. Sometimes you just have to accept the risk to make things work
Great videos really enjoy seeing family work together
Thanks again Andy!

Good video
Good to hear your discussion of silo on loaders on the drive system
Andrew is on the scene, that kid is awesome!!
Great video!
Andy great video on how a silo operation works 👍🚜
Hi Andy !
it is a dusty job , good job !
good quality corn in it .
Thanks Andy for your time and have a good day at the farm ! 🙋♂️
That is touch job Andy. It always very interesting to see you guys work on stuff. A dirty dirty job. Thanks 😊

Another good one Andy 🐄 🇺🇲 👍

Dad had 3 of those silos 90 ft. Ht. ...I was always a bit worried as when you climbed the footing steps were always slippery...What a Climb you had
Good show Andy. I'd be afraid to climb those silos by myself.
Andy is a gentleman and a scholar. All the ladies think he is lovable and adorable
👍
U and Nate covered the corn
Thumbs up 👍🏻
One of the "fun" parts of silo's. It has to get done either way.
G’job Hourigan family, hope y’all had a great and safe Independence Day 🇺🇸keep em comin Andy

I’ve spent my share of time in silos. Can’t say I’ve ever had lunch up
There tho. Hahah
The surface drive ones got better when they finally went to the big wheel kits instead of those small drive wheels those were a disaster
Yeah that’s typical for it to settle that much
🤗👍🇺🇸

Surprised, Bryne doesn't have you sipping chocolate milk.
I got sick from molded corn, almost like pneumonia
People doesn't realize what it takes to make a cheese burger this weekend.
Maybe a roof fan would be handy to draw all that dust out

We're looking for one I'm in Michigan but we could get it hauled
Another great silo video , are you tapping the silo early this year?
No it’s about when we open it
WE love you guys and gales HAPPY 4TH BE LATED
With the expansion of your herd I’m interested in how you plan to increase your high moisture corn storage

The crappy stuff on top, What do you do with it? do you mix it with refusal or do you just spread it out in a field?
We spread it in the fields
Hello Andy enjoyed your video. I never liked going up in the silo but it had to be done. How many acres to fill that silo? Thanks have a good day.
So the sandwich was just in the bucket? That's lucky lol
Do you judge how far to let the unloader down by the amount of amps you see on the meter? Thanks, Andy!
Kinda
Is that motor bolted down good? Sure seemed like it jumped a lot when it fired up
Makes for good video
That always a dirty Job
Andy do you have a self-propelled John Deere dish mind I think you said you had one once maybe you've sold it
Not anymore
Lol.. Can't believe you don't push those.$10 each TV dinners. :)
Andy got me hooked on O light now I have to go to meetings with the other O light junkies 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Siri says you must unlock you’re iPhone first

Just curious as to why you don’t use the harvesters silo? The older one just seems like work harder not smarter.
To slow
how wet is that corn now

can't you make a rubber lip from an old conveyor belt to cover the door opening where the chain is mounted to avoid the dust in the stairwell
More to it than that
Is this the most dangerous job on the farm?
One of them. Many things will hurt you, some can kill you. Attention is the cheapest thing to pay.
All farm activities are dangerous just at different levels
@@keithrice5223 Amen!
you should wear a dust mask you could get hypersensitivity pneumonitis when your older, stay safe around dust
Why does a johndeere guy have a cas baler
Because they're a better baler.
🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽👌🤙
Too bad you don’t have chickens for that waste grain corn in the silo.
Can't you clean it off and fold it up and put it on the unloader and reuse it next time
If it gets one hole in it it’s ruined…. Not worth saving just to find out it has a hole in it
Why don't you hire someone to do these jobs that could put you out of commission for a extended period of time.
Who does this kind of work
Should you not ware a face mask
Mouse poo ect bird poo and dust
It's been there some months collecting
