When it comes to guitars, everyone's got their own unique sense of aesthetics. If you like the way it looks, you're bound to pick it up more, and don't let anyone tell you different! Sound and playability wise, I'm with you all the way!
@Onetruthrgv The microphone technique is called Mid-Side, and involves a single cardioid microphone (in this case a wide-cardioid: Schoeps MK21 capsule) pointed up the center (the mid mic), and a figure-8 microphone (in this case a Neumann M149 Tube microphone set to Figure 8 position) which form the two sides. The stereo image is created by the phase difference between the front and rear lobe of the figure 8 pattern, and convertered to stereo by a simple process. Try it out!
The kind of thing musicians like Jackson Browne, or people making these very precise kinds of records would value. For all that though, not once during this entire video did my heart move at the sound of this guitar. Not once did a bass note plunge into my heart, and give me visions of vast landscapes, country roads, lost or future loves. It's the rough edges of the Martin that move me. String rattles, chest vibrating bass.
I'm in the market for a Martin D-41 right now, and have been watching tonnes of videos on here listening to the difference between straight, scalloped, and scalloped forward shifted. Kinda going a little outta mind making sure I get the right model at the amount these things cost. Watching this video it's my opinion that the D2H is totally superior to and model Martin when it comes to a precise balance of sound across all the strings. Excellent note definition, and a very level sound.
@tmertube Thanks for the comment! The D2H does have a full bottom end, it is one of the best all-around dreadnoughts we carry. We've got some great new guitar videos on the way so stay tuned and visit the website for our current guitar inventory, we're always getting exciting new gear!
@bluegrasssingingman Anyone who posts a comment and rediculous as this should show us what he thinks DOES sound good. That would be very interesting. We welcome feedback and ways that we can improve. Criticism is a part of any creative pursuit, but I'm guessing you can't really qualify your thoughts in any meaningful way. The reality is that we work VERY hard to create these videos, but it doesn't prevent someone from abusing the comment system for their own childish amusement.
@rmoon01 We appreciate your observations of the D2H. We find it to be a world-class acoustic worth purchasing over the majority of martins on the market. It's just an opinion. but anyway, let us know if you have any questions about the collings line. we have a TON of them available
Collings are just better guitars. I've played both and really tried to hone my opinion. Collings are more versatile, more defined, bassier, boomier, easier, smoother, creamier, punchier, livelier, clearer, in-tuner, sexier, etc. They're a miracle.
@kipperr11 HaHa, I ran into him on another post and came up with the same conclusion. I've yet to see him post anything he's personaly done with an instrument, but he's quick to critisize everyone else.
@bluegrasssingingman The only thing definitive here is that you are clearly indicating your lack of awareness of Collings guitars and their quality. There is absolutely no serious professional that could sit and compare something like what Martin is currently building today to a Collings, and actually say that the Martin was up to snuff. We set up these challenges routinely, and 11-year old children can here the obvious superiority. This isn't sales hype, but fact. You should try one.
The only thing I don't like about this guitar is that atrocious pick guard that comes with it. It's just an opinion, and one that my favourite guitar repair shop doesn't share, but that little tortise shell tear drop thing is just offensive. Sound and playability wise, it's the best thing you'll ever have your hands on.
I have never ever played a Collings. This video really makes me want to try one out. I love the sound of it.

They arrive from the factory with amazing set-ups. We only make adjustments if necessary. This guitar was set-up by Collings.

A great instrument. Been to the shop in Austin.
@1Uplook
Thank you! Even if a Collings is not your cup of tea, you can't say that they aren't good at what they do!
Sounds lovely, and I'm a satisfied D-28 owner. Enjoyed the clip.

@fransgreg All of our Collings have been delivered with Factory Strings: D'Addario EJ-17 (.013"-.056")
LOVE my D2HG

@DuskY1991 You absoultely do need to check one out- they are really quite magical guitars.
I just have to know the name of the song being played at 3:08. Either the name or the chord progression, its mesmerizing.
I love my d2h!
Thanks for watching! Please contact me for pricing and availability.

I'm just curious if this guitar was set up different than from the factory.

This is more of an ad than a review.
