I think Omega is objectively the best value in watch making at the moment. My reasoning being that GS have the build/finishing, but not the design IMO. I think GS dials are next level, but the design language of their cases and bracelets leave a lot of room for improvement and feels slightly muddled. Omega, similar price points in various categories, a mature design language that is instantly recognisable, with great brand history and pedegree. Omega is the king of value for me....so why don't I own one 🤔
I completely disagree on the “mature design language.” It’s an opinion, but they seem to be very gimmicky and frankly childish in some of their designs. Proportionally, color schemes, those mostly helium escape valves with crowns, just tacky.
When it comes to tech GS is well above the competition and the dial choice is fantastic. I do agree the cases feel uninspired and a bit too basic. Bracelets could be better. GS is the safer choice. Omega style I feel you either love it or hate it. I feel like the speed masters are too busy. The moon watch variants are getting into gimmicky territory. I do like the world timer aquarra terra, got my eye on that. I do think the seamaster aqua terras especially the green dial are good buy for the money.
@@jg65 I think the Speed Master is probably one of the most iconic designs in watchmaking. I think you either love chronographs or you don't, they are inherently busy. I actually don't like chronographs very much, but the Speed Master is 'the one'. I'd own a modern Speed Master over anything that GS have to offer. GS do not have a watch in the same league in my opinion, but they could do. It's the mix of dress dial and sports case that puts me off GS and the bracelets are clumsy across the board. It's a muddled design language. That said, I still admire GS and am interested in what they do next. I don't think they are far off...
@@m.e.p.r I completely agree about the Speedmaster, but the Speedmaster and maybe a few Railmasters and Aqua Terra’s are the exception. Look at the rest of their catalogue. You cited the Speedmaster as your only example, and it really is a modern iteration of a watch from the 60s and 70s. Now, I’m not saying I don’t appreciate Omega for their innovation in movements and streamlining production to give consumers great value. I do, they get credit for that. But their designs could hardly be considered “mature” for the reasons stated above. You also discussed GS at length but I didn’t address GS at all. I’m not a GS fanboy coming to their defense by bashing Omega. Just was confused at how anybody could call Omega’s oftentimes gimmicky, garish, and disproportional designs “mature.” All subjective though!
@@m.e.p.r It actually is the most iconic chronograph in watch history with the amazing Apollo missions attached to it 😀 this is NO DEBATE yes the Daytona is kool but in the words of Edward G Robinson in The Cincinnati kid. The Daytona is good real good but aslong as the Speedmaster is around it will always be second best. Another icon in chronographs I would add is the Heuer Monaco since it's the first square faced chronograph and any of the Zenith 1969 additions with that beautiful El primero movement
Love watching these casual off the cuff vids with you guys. Great chemistry.
When you guys do the wrist watch check, can you post a close-up of the watch itself? Would love to see them but can’t from a distance. Great video as always, thanks to both of you 🙏
Nope
Yep
Yep
Crazy video. Literally every watch I either want, have had or currently have. Excellent selection. 😎👍🏼
….now GET TO WORK!
Big fan of you both, I really enjoy your content. Keep up the good work gentlemen!
Anyone know where that colourful strap was from? I also really like it.
Hi Christian, where did you get this long sleeve polo from ? What pants do you where it with ? 👌
I love the intros 😂… love the watch talk and stories, but favorite part is definitely the intros
Great stuff gents!
Sinn should 100% be represented here. The 144 St S Anniversary II has become my favorite watch to wear. It's bulletproof, fits nicely on the wrist at 41mm, integrated silicone band, readability (the orange, white, black has amazing contrast), waterproof and limited to 600 pieces and you can wear it without worrying anyone is going to steal it off your wrist. Can't say enough good things about it.
Thats a tank of a watch. Love Sinn. My daily is a 203 Ti AR
I guess we're uploading on random days now! Who cares, glad to see any upload from this amazing channel.
I have the sbgm221. The watch is beautiful only problem is it’s to small for my wrist and neve wear it.
I'd include the Longines Legend Diver on this list. Huge value for very much under $5k.
Absolutely, I just purchased mine. Beautiful bracelet, COSC certified, etc....
That Grand Seiko is my next purchase!
I also love NOMOS , I have the Club datum hand wind in 38.5mm Another great alternative to the submariner is the SINN 104 (yes I know it is officially a pilots watch) It has become like my best friend and wear it almost daily.
You missed the omega seamaster 42 mm new green dial co axial; that’s an extraordinary watch for the money and the green version is stoning and super elegant.
I didn't realize Freddy Krueger was into watches. 😂🤣💀 ☠️ ⌚️
Once again a sublime and occasionally hilarious riff on all matters watch related.
My top five watches for 5000 and under gonna be using the grey market cause T&H needs to use retail. Seamaster 300 Smp for 4300, tank XL 4200, longines hydroconquest grey dial 1100, grand Seiko SBGP for 2700 I need to explain a little on this one. You're really paying for the finishing and the fact this watch is thermo compensated for accuracy of 10 seconds a year. GS is going up market and have carved out a solid niche in quartz. And the breitling Evo areospace for 3200.
Congratulations on your engagement Michael - your proposal to that little German women who always knows the time said ‘Yes’ !!!
Sure you will be very happy !!!! Cheers gents 👍
I know its all about the watches but... I love Christian's rugby shirt! Could you tell us where you got it from?
GS, Tudor 58, Cartier Tank, Omega Seamaster slightly used… these would be strong offerings.
I would add a Fortis cosmonaut B-42 ,Doxa Sharkhunter and Nivada Gretchen have some really nice watches aswell and all way under 5k also Hanhart, Tutima and Sinn
Link for watches would help
For the moment I´m in love with the Longines Spirit
Christian almost said Royal Oak when talking about Audemars Piguet in general. Yep, at this point that model line is the brand.
I love that Cartier but my wrist is way to big for it
Stopping at 4 min mark to continue this tomorrow Friday night after work with beer.
The SBGM221 is literally a perfect watch
Watches definitely allow for personality 2 shine. I hope silver takes off as a case material (along with gold & copper(& other exotics)). You guys are 2 laggit 2 quit. Thank you!
Jesus, can you please not make your pics so small? Can’t see any detail!
I still miss Anna but i will be honest this dynamic is working for me. Early on in the channel I definitely had a bit of a proletariat anti-Christian feelings with a bit of the perceived elitism and I left comments to that effect BUT you've won me over man you've gotten much more laid back and give insightful advice and seem to have true enthusiasm and I am now a fan so good job!
Did Anna leave?
Christian, love you shirt. Would like to know where you got it from
Rowing blazers!
You two make working fun or have fun working? Either way, I crack up laughing along with you both. The only thing funnier is occasionally freezing the frame to see the expressions on your faces…😂
Did you ever track down the strap shown at 29:45?
Agreed, and what was the watch with that band?
Michael, could you please put the pictures of the watches bigger on the screen? It’s a pain to watch your videos on mobile devices
Sinn U50, Nomos, any GS
I know it’s “just a quartz”, but GS has amazing 9F options well under $5k.
I would never spend over a thousand for a watch with a battery in it. If I’m spending real money I want it to last forever not reliant on no quartz battery that may go out of stock
I love my GS 9F. GS has the same high quality finishing on their entry levels watches as their more expensive pieces. The high accuracy quartz movement should be able to go 50 years without a service. My AD will replace the battery for free whenever its needed. These batteries will be available for decades, its the same battery that’s in millions of quartz watches around the world but I totally understand people have preferences in movement types. I think GS is the only company offering 3 types of movements.
@@LiveCustoms cool story
@@LiveCustoms you mean your watches never need servicing and have parts that are never out of stock?
Maybe you could do a video the best automatic watches for ladies under$5.k. As a female with a small wrist 14.65m who likes vintage watches because are small and cool. Thank you
I’ve wanted the sbgm221, but my concern with buying grand Seiko is the servicing down the line. People claim they are hard to get serviced which is the only thing really holding me back.
Are grand seikos more affordable in Japan? This may have been answered in previous videos
Slightly, yeah. Save about 10-15% on import fees
Kind of, still gonna cost you 300,000 yen easy.
Seiko in general makes the best watches IMO. Gran Seiko is fantastic but lets face it guys, if someone is to drop 5K plus on a watch they also want the exclusivity. Question is. With Grand Seiko being aggressively priced what is it going to be worth 10 years from now if they keep flooding the market with "less" expensive top watches.
The Gary Vee impersonation 🤣🤣🤣
Michael: Nomos OR Junghans Max Bill?
Aw...when I saw breitling I thought you were going to clout the aerospace.
Minerva Pythagore from the 90’s/ 2000’s. Not sure if thats vintage though.
Tell Grand Seiko to charge the extra 18% and fix the bracelet please!
8:51 "Nomoooooooos"
where can we see the commercials?
Good question.
Silver will tarnish due to co2. Fun fact before the industrial revolution silver remained (largely) shiny for long periods of time. Today it becomes tarnished far quicker
new honeycomb should be called 'brackets'
perfect sports fan watch
Love marshland, sweet tomatoes is the best pizza in MA.
Tudor is a much better "bang for the buck" than Grand Seiko. I like GS's spring drive and some of their dials, but their cases and bracelets leave me cold. And Grand Seikos are not inexpensive. I'd much rather have a Datejust (which are still attainable from a Rolex AD) than a Grand Seiko.
Anybody have details on the watch strap at 29:44? Looks amazing! Also that Breitling may have won my heart.
For anyone with or thinking about the silver Black Bay 58925, there is a coin cleaning dip you can import from the US works better than anything you can get in the UK will sort out tarnishing in seconds. E-z-est coin cleaning dip, just a quick dunk for a few seconds and a pat dry with a soft towel and it will look brand new again.
Cartier Ronde is missing
Watchco Seamaster 300
“Do you have apple pay?” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
these videos need more watch and less bull.
More interesting price class would be 2500 usd.
vintage video now - thanks
Minute 25:57. I bought the Hamilton a few days ago, I need some strap advice (I already have two, the green and kinda bronze NATO). Would you recommend me some "formal look" strap? just to give it a different look.
Great content guys, as always.
Outerknown chronograph is 44
Damn you guys speak some st and I F!*kn love it.
Hey seriously though, I understand you haven’t seen or handled the Tudor BB 925 as yet but generally do you feel the tarnish could be polished off with cloth (never really wore silver so not sure)
I have my eye on one atm that’s all.
Hold up is Rolex Boutique phone me last week and my wallet is sore….
Buddy be getting faded lol
The 1 best contestant!🙋😎⌚️✌️
Christian « slow growing ´stache » and Michael « shiny face ». I can’t imagine what this channel will be in 5 years…
Every watch from Sinn.
Vicky’s Diner? Westfield?
AP is so much a one trick pony. New colors on the same old watch
I’m looking for my birth year watch 1983, recommendations please. Sub 5K and automatic or mechanical movement. 36mm is the smallest I can pull off and 42mm is the max.
Tudor royal $2200. Best bracelet under 5k
Omega deville power reserve linen dial = $3700. Best dial and case finishing under 5k
Grand Seiko’s problem is their name is Grand Seiko
GS- make a 36mm mostly brushed sports watch.
Nomos- cut an inch off your lugs and make a 36mm sports watch.
Tudor- scrap the 1929, glamour, and style lines and bring back the prince and ranger in 36mm.
Hamilton-make a modern 36mm sports watch.
Breitling-make a 36mm sports watch with a normal bracelet.
😂 do you have apple pay? Oh wait this is a Cartier. I just spit out my water 😂
Omg I need to do this with my Vacheron or Rolex.
Omg I can't wait to go out and do that with my friends 😂
The Brightling is a rip off of the RADO Captain Cook... you guys should know that.
Are you guys ignoring Longines? I would always put my money on a Longines over a Nomos or Hamilton.
No no no….not for them 🤣
And Sadiq is paying for it.
Is that a mustache?
Great choices! However, no Omega? any particular reason?
I think junghangs should have been given a mention especially how wearable it is.
Too busy talking about diners or some BS
I bought my wife a Khaki mechanical and I steal it from her every chance I get.
Forget the watches these two belong on SNL.
terribly conventional choices except for the Breitling.
Christian in previous videos bashed the grey market bubble and now talks about watches and say their retail price should be higher. Me and I’m sure a lot of other watch aficionados, we’re done with this price race BS and all “influencers” that support it. Chrono24 is a joke
I just can’t get into Nomos. It’s just far too modern and minimalistic for my style. And I’m also one of those guys who cannot for the life of me imagine paying so much for a Grand Seiko.
The Grand Seiko was the only one out of the five I would consider.
Cool. Story bro
JFC, stop babbling and get on with it. You could have covered several additional watches if you cut out the fluff. 🙄
Longines Spirit Zulu Time.
Wait dude WTF I didn't realize the other dude on this channel was The Iron Snail this entire time. So this dude knows heritage clothing and watches??? Bruhhhh dudes got too much taste.
Nice video but you need to get a handle on your pictures. Horrible display, need to get larger and close up of face watch over all.
Cool channel, wackest music
Cosmetic blotting paper
All these watch channel talk about how much they love nomos but none of them actually put their money where their mouth is. Let's be honest, it looks like a cheap ikea watch.
I'm having some serious envy over Christians watch!
Grand Seiko Watches make me fall asleep. I wonder if anyone buys them except those people following these paid influencer videos on youtube. I have been to japan many times. No one there wears a grand seiko and you can never find any revenue data for Grand Seiko. As their CEO says “Seiko has become a brand of no clear identity,” “‘Everything for everybody’ ended up being ‘everything for nobody’. They have been trying to turn it around for a while now but I doubt they will succeed.
I'll put in my happy plug for the Grand Seiko SBGY007, Omiwatari. I bought it and love it's design, case included, and still agree with you that Seiko and even MOST Grand Seiko's leave something to be desired when in comes to cases. Yet the case shape and dimensions of the 007 are a great exception to the rule. I hope they keep going in that direction.
I really like & frequently use lume on watches; I don’t like that most GS watches don’t have lume!
@@briankimballkay I didn’t know that watch and the dial actually looks very nice. Also I like that they put the power reserve on the back and left the dial clean. But the retail price on it is 8500 Euro here in Germany. I actually own a Seiko Cocktail Time (the old JDM version). It also has a nice dial and costs 300 Euros. I feel like brand identity and design quality between the two are not different enough. In all honesty I find their 300 Euro watch line with all the monsters etc more intersting than any Grand Seiko. Spring Drive is a nice idea but it is now a 30 year old nice idea. I think that drive costs next to nothing to make and if they put it in a 500 Euro watch with a simple design and a nice dial I would buy one.
