Rolexes are now a dime a dozen (kinda) so getting one should be EASY now right? Eh, not really, life is hard. Chances are, if you're a nice person and present as such, you'll be able to get the Rolex of your dreams (provided it's not a Daytona OR it's a white gold one) BUT there are a lot of "old methods" still floating around, such as: buying breakfast for your AD, sending them cards, flowers, etc. Do those still matter? Should you go GREY MARKET? Find out...TODAY!

The real price of a new rolex is your pride
Damn, you got me contemplating my desire
As a Sales Director it pains me to hear that the best way to get favor from a retail store is treating the sales people like customers. They should be remembering our birthdays, sending us post cards and enticing us to spend our money. The markets are down go grey market get what you want and keep your self-respect.
It’s really more about just being friendly and nice vs a business transaction . I waited two months for my sub than two more months for the candy pink 36 . I asked how did I get these rather quickly . Outside of my spend history which I think is solid , she said I was one of the first nice customers she met . I’m a pretty good at sales and that’s my experience .
@@bucknut2000oh I definitely understand and glad it worked for you those are nice pieces. but don’t think that’s been the norm for many over the past 3-4 years or so.
Totally. Self respect would not allow this model.
100% agree.
good call.
As someone who wears Rolex since 2008 I am really looking forward to prices dropping below retail and the day the AD calls me to pick up my watch, so I can answer:
„Thank you for the info, but as I have been called by several ADs, I can put you on my waitlist. It‘s about three to five years waiting.“
15 years ago prices have been below retail and I think we will have this situation again during the next years.
Fingers crossed. I have been watching and researching watches for about a month now. I plan to buy my first collectible watch in the next month or so. Won’t be a Rolex. Not there yet, but it is the goal. So hope the prices come down as you say. :)
1st watch be either Christopher Ward Twelve ti or Zodiak Dive watch.
Legendary!!! 😂😂😂
keep dreaming... it'll never go back to under retail lol the demand will always be there
Indeed. Very funny.
Grown men groveling at the opportunity to buy expensive trinkets from what are essentially pretentious used car salesmen is not something I believe anyone should endorse or partake in.
well spoken
Yeah. This is one of the dumbest videos I’ve ever watched. If this is what it takes to get a Rolex, pass.
Couldn't have said it better!
I’m with ya. But everyone has their vices. For some guys it’s guns, or video games, or books. For some guys, it’s watches.
LMFAO there is no way i could go into a rolex AD with a straight face and tell a salesperson happy birthday, because i watched a theo and harris video telling me that this is a good idea... with the goal of seeming 'genuine' 😂😂😂 i would feel like a total weasel
It’s not even feeling a Wiesel. I just wouldn’t degrade myself irrespective of how much I want a particular watch. “We knew he wanted it and he was nice enough guy to give it to him” - you would think you are getting it for free
@@elmirbrdar1045 Exactly. You are not being GIVEN anything ffs.....
Just so we’re clear. Don’t buy them flowers but do ask when their birthday is and go on said date to tell someone you barely know happy birthday in person?😂😂.
glad I'm not the only one who finds that ridiculous
I worked really hard to be able to purchase Rolex. To hear how ADs treat customers and to hear you two sweet talking to manipulate an AD (“I was just in the neighborhood; HBD”) to sell you what you’re ready to purchase is topsy turvy to put it delicately and professionally.
Yes, let's grovel at the watch seller... Neah, just go next door and get something else. Worried about losing money? Then you're not yet in the market for luxury stuff. Buy something you can afford losing 30-40% on, if you ever have to sell it. If you buy a 3k watch, keep it for 5y and sell it on at 2k, you've had a nice watch for 200/year. You probably "lose" more on sneakers...
Sneakers literally exist to get damaged instead of your feet while you enjoy their comfort. That's the sole purpose of shoes, and yet there's still people claiming they buy them for investment. Yeah, because buying $12 shoes made by a little boy in a sweatshop for $650 off StockX risking they're gonna turn up "fake" will definitely give a good return on investment. 😂
Agree bro.
Se have to “remember the birthday of the sales associate” ??
We are the customers.
There are 9,000 Daytonas for sale on c24. That how “rare” they are.
This whole Rolex game is a house of cards.
@@marcn8750 yeah, that was really cringy. Imagine grown up men go in and say HB to a virtual stranger.
@@shuycg exactly. This video perpetuates the hegemony that many ADs think they are entitled to.
Make a good watch, learn the features and sell it. Simple as that.
And don’t sell to flippers … the ADs know exactly who they are selling to and they benefit by forcing spend history. Buy this and they and I’ll hold the ransom watch to you.
Total rubbish.
Now ADs better learn how to sell again. Buyers are way smarter (no thanks to videos like this).
I picked up a datejust 36 mm silver Dial Jubilee fluted bezel a few weeks ago after a 13 month wait. While I was waiting for my AD rep to bring out my watch another representative was on the phone calling clients to pick up a submariner. He called fourth clients before someone agreed to come in to pick up the watch. I think the watches are becoming more available and you have many people who are on the list and can no longer afford the watches or went gray and no longer need the watch.
I think it’s more a case of - “this is no longer guaranteed profit so I am no longer interested as 10 thousand is a lot to spend on a toy or risk”
Do you have a purchasing history?
Because you shouldn’t have to spend X amount of thousands, to get on a waiting list. You will probably spend less going to the grey market, then having to spend thousands on watches you don’t really want, in order to get the watch you do.
I went to a rolex ad out of my area, I wanted to check for the DJ41 2 tone yellow gold fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet that they happened to have on display, and they sold me the watch right there and then! It felt great since I’ve been waiting on it for like a month at my local AD
No people bought Tudors (Blackbay 54 rubber strap) and other watches. I got tired of waiting and I'm very satisfied with my Tudor.
Insane advice. I spend my hard earned money with respect and dignity.
it is important to always be friendly but it is not necessary to ingratiate yourself to the salesman or Sales manager to get courteous thoughtful service
@Theo.andharris NO! Answer me on this site!
100% agree with the sentiment of this video.
Just relax and wait for you watch. Unless you want a steel GMT or Daytona, almost everything else is available within a year.
I've bought four Rolex to date, all from the same AD (Mappin & Webb, Cambridge UK).
2019: Oyster Perpetual 39 White Dial: 6mths.
2022: Explorer 1 36: 9mths.
2023: DateJust 36 Green Palm (fluted/jubilee): 4mths.
2023: Sub Date: 7mths.
Unless it's discounted or discontinued, don't buy grey.
Good luck buying one in Asia. It really depends where you live.
@@beerkegaardDefinitely agree with you there. As Christian says in this video, choose your AD carefully. I deliberately avoided the London AD's as the competition is ridiculous, they don't need my money and to some extent, don't need my business.
@@beerkegaardso much corruption with thai boutiques
This is completely ridiculous! I am supposed to remember the sales rep’s birthday? I am not building a relationship to be given an opportunity to purchase a mass produced watch by a company that is run incredibly poorly. There are so many other brands that deserve our attention and dollars. Really disappointing gents!
Rolex is in a league if its own hence it can do as it pleases
I was told in Nov of 21 that I would have to spend $200k in the store, just to be able to actually be placed on the real list to buy the watch I wanted at retail. Or, I could buy the one I wanted for $17k over retail that was on display in the consignment section. I’m good waiting for prices to drop.
Holy shit. Just wait then. Years ago I got an OP for like 20% off Grey Market. Wait until you can get a deal like that.
Rolex isn't for broke people
You start by saying that grey market premiums are not worth it, only to immediatly open an exception to the watch that you like. One person’s crazyness makes perfect sense to someone else. This is exactly what the grey market is: the real market.
This may be applicable from your observation on that particular area and country (NY + surround and the US?). Try doing that in South East Asia (where bundling culture is prevalent) or Australia (Where we barely get any allocation as most go to East Asia). It is not as simple as that lol.
I’m waiting for the watches to be sold from the AD for a discount again. We may get there if things keep going like this.
Imagine having to make some random retail sales guy/girl 'family' in order to purchase a shiny trinket :D
It really is crazy what some people are willing to do to get a watch at retail. I'm sorry, but when I hear all the suggestions online for things to do to develop a "relationship" with a salesperson at an AD (like bringing them cookies), I can't help but cringe. it just seems so degrading to me.
@@johnboud2071agree. This is a total cringe video
The grey market is just the ADs back door.
Wow! Was that meeting with Anthony and Marco about who could wear the TIGHTEST PANTS?
I remember the time, 15 years ago, when you would step into a Rolex AD and all you needed to do to get the watch on the spot was to have the money in your bank account - or, in my country, enough limit in your credit card to buy it. ADs here would even let you pay in 10 to 12 monthly installments, in agreement with the credit card company. These days may never return for Rolex. This is why I completely lost interest in the brand. Very sad.
Don't exactly agree. I've been on the "EOI" list (not even the wait list) for 3 models for 3+ years. Air King, submariner and sky dweller. Many massive milestones have come and gone and have even begged them to mark it. They didn't bite and my itch is all but gone. It's been filled by Longines master collection triple date, tag Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 6 and about to pull a trigger on an IWC. Thanks Rolex but no thanks Rolex!
Good you you!!!
There are so many beautiful watches other than Rolex. Your choices are excellent!!!
Edit: Good for you !!!
The problem here is that you have been trying to get three really popular sports models over 2021-23...so just before and just over lockdown/the hype bubble.
How do you like the Longines Triple Date? I think Longines has been killing it lately.
@@XHobbiesPrime absolutely love it mate.. it is on my wrist at least once a day! its as much understated as it is a conversation starter!
I can't wait to roll up to the AD to drop the ol "but it's my birthday!" line
In a real world the AD should be like “happy birthday, we’d love to sell you a Rolex that you like”. But no, you have to tell the salesman happy birthday, babysit their kids, rotate their tires or service their HVAC unit. Stupid. Im not kissing any ass to hand someone over 10k. If I want it that bad, I’ll pay the damn gray market price.
Went to AD last week. Put my self on the list for Sub Bluesy. 2-3 year wait for watch. I asked about a Daytona. Per AD only to their best customers.Better chance of getting hit by lighting!
I paid (the equivalent of) just over $20k for a 126610lv (green bezel Submariner, ie the Starbucks), grey market obv late autumn 2022, i.e. the worst time!
But I did just walk in, say "I'll take the Sub" and walk out, no name taking, no kissing butt, no background check, nothing.
A business transaction, they had goods I wanted at a price I was willing to pay.
That's how business is supposed to work, when you start favoring someone cause they're nice to you, or cause you like them you're on the edge of some very very questionable practices indeed.
The Grey's are struggling as higher interest rates and China slow down filter through the market. What used to go out the BACK door is now sitting at the AD.
you are saying the new Daytona is not worth 30k! Which reference are you talking about.
I asked about the new 2023 ref 126500, black dial, I was told 35k! and the new Pepsi for 23k!
is it too much for the new one? can I get much it cheaper ?
Just went to a Rolex AD and I’m 100% not playing their game. I made a promise/pact with my girlfriend that I will never pay for a Rolex. Omega, Cartier, Breitling, and Tudor offer watches that are equally superb goods. I also was really let down seeing how standard the watches looked in person at Rolex. I didn’t see any subtle beveled edges or anything that felt luxury and infact the case bottom felt quite sharp on the explorer. Conversely I liked the Seamaster Pro 300 and that surprised me because I didn’t think I’d like the bracelet but it worked.
300 series is ace. 300m 007 version is a fav of mine, not just because of the design but all the connection.
Ditched Rolex about 2 years ago. Never going back. So much more out there.
I was on the “list” for a Tudor BB chrono for 8 months. I ended up turning it down when it arrived because the desire for it waned. I had been visiting watch dealers for months and realized I could get a much better timepiece for the price.
What did you go for in the meanwhile?
I have been on "The List" with my AD for over 3 years. Yesterday I got an email that said "I would like to follow up with your Rolex request letting you know we haven't forgot about you. I hope to be calling you soon with good news about this." I responded immediately yet the thrill is not as intense as it would have been if I hadn't bought my first unworn Rolex last year on Chrono24. Still excited though, hope I get a call soon.
I had a horrible experience with Rolex, they made me feel like I had to beg them to get a watch.
Ben Bridge is connected to my local Rolex AD which got me on the list. And buying my first one got me on the list for the next one.
Are we looking at a Bean Baby bubble with Rolex? Considering all said in this video, increasing supply and how many Rolexs Grey market dealers are holding...
got a day date 40 yellow gold white roman 6 months ago, got the call from yellow gold sub black dial 3 weeks ago. Turned that one down but calls are coming in.
went to an AD in midtown nyc and was told the wait for the entry-level steel OP was one year. and that i should not even ask about buying a GMT pepsi bc it will never happen. based on so many things i've heard i am skeptical this waiting list is authentic, and i would ever actually get the watch (i don't care what these dudes say). as for the grey mkt - i've never seen a current green dial OP that wasn't like 12k (didn't he just quote 8k or i misheard??).
when the 116900 was released it was a watch i liked and and priced well...got the watch from my AD and was a good experience....now waiting for a OP 41 blue and might as well piss in the wind.
I don’t think it has anything to do with anxiety. It is a little wild that Rolex was heavily available and now it’s not. And not so much by demand but by games being played.
It’s ridiculous
Do you still need to build your spend up with a Datejust before you can ask for a Submariner?
Centralizing the waiting lists would perhaps solve the problem that lists are artificially long because people are on lists at many AD’s.
all fair points, but right now in the UK the lists for GMT's and Daytonas are CLOSED. Grey market is the only chance to anything within a five year time period. I paid over the odds with for Pepsi, simply because I didn't want to wait for years and wanted to treat myself. But I totally understand your points, I am more willing to wait now by lust for another new watch has died down a little :)
I was on a waiting list for a Rolex and Tudor but after being called the desire passed. There are mircobrands that have created better designs and a better product rather than hype. I purchased a Serica, Ginualet and lorier and people of all income level come up to me to discuss my watches. What else can I ask for? I think the goal in the next couple of years will be which company will become the next Rolex?
Thank you, just checked out your recommendation and they have some hitters in their catalogs. Do you have any other recommendations?
@@tarnantula as in for other mircobrands?
@@tarnantula I would check out Raven watches for a beater watch. They are durable, lume lasts long and people will ask about the style. Monta for a dress watch because they go with all my suits and any Yema watch if you hate yourself. They look great, not expensive and just like anything French will give you some problem with style but they look great.
Reinvesting in boutiques that are exemplary? You can’t be exemplary if you simply don’t have product available. I’ve watched a TON of videos about people’s experience at Rolex ADs and very few describes their experience as exemplary. On the contrary, many have described their experiences as exemplary at other brands shops, such as Omega and GS.
This idea of the AD ‘selecting’ who they want to get a watch is such stinky business…if I am going to spend 15-20k I don’t want to have to feel like I have begged this person to allow me to have it
Christian is the kind of guy who just likes to hear himself, breathe man, breathe..
All the people waiting blew their budget on Omega, Cartier, Sinn, Longines and possibly a Tissot PRX they don't tell anyone about. : | So when they get the call finally they are like "yo I got tired of waiting for a new watch and bought 7 meanwhile".
Rolex has targeted 1.2 million watches produced in 2023. This is fool's gold for people thinking there is a shortage of supply.
The other side of the equation is the problem.
This guy reminds me of that scene in Wall Street where Bud Fox brings a box of Cohibas to Gecko's office in order to get a 5 minute sit down. 😂
I think they were Davidoff (one of my all time favourite movies, and a good analogy on your part)
I have my eye on many Rolexes and want to buy many over the years. I travel full time though, all throughout Europe and USA right now. I'm never in one place more than a month. I do visit certain places twice a year like Boston and Phoenix to see family, I'm wondering if it's worth trying to establish rapport in Phoenix/Scottsdale or Boston (issue being if I get the call I may be out of the country), try my luck visiting every dealer in everywhere I am even airports (issue being I don't build spending at one AD), or just wait until I do stay places longer...
It's funny I got a 10% discount in 2016 for an Explorer mrk I from Bucherer in Basel. The best part is that I asked for the discount in an email having never been in that boutique before....crazy how things changed so quickly.....the sad part is that I got the GMT Batman and I sold it for 10%discount just six months before prices took off to the moon
I tuned down a Datejust yesterday.
Wait, Christian has a white gold GMT? Did he just buy it? I’ve never heard about it until now!

I think the issue is that people are getting calls for watches they didn’t ask for…
Also, you’re paying a premium on grey market to skip a line and to avoid the even greater amount of money to establish a “purchase history” to get the watch you want. In other words, it’s cheaper and faster to pay the grey market premium.
If you only want 1 specific watch then yes it would be cheaper and easier to pay the premium to get the one you want. But if you want many watches then you dont want to be paying that grey market premium everytime.
Yup, gotten multiple texts of solid gold models without asking. Last one was a rose gold skydweller which retails dor $50.9K!

fwi, in some places - like Canada - some grey market dealers accept gold bullion as payment for a watch; tax free since
it's a trade. That means - if you want a watch from grey market - and you don't want to pay the tax _on top_ of the premium,
just buy gold bullion (it's also tax free (in Canada)), then trade for the watch. The money you save on tax offsets the grey
market premium. btw, gold bullion premium is only 2-3%, compared to grey market premiums of 10-30%
I _bought_ a 1 year old Sub blussie and SD the same week for gold - tax free - in Toronto. Premium but no sales tax - which in
Canada is 13% :o
Getting married in this day and age is an insane concept! Almost as insane as spending 20k+ on a ring
It is just my opinion but I've noticed Rolex grey market prices dramatically falling and even back to retail. Again just my opinion I expect Rolex grey market prices to fall below retail at some point.

I flipped a ton of watches... and the ADs I use know I do. But they also know the people I flip to are buying for personal use and rarely resell.
Imagine paying 40k for a Tiffany Oyster Perpetual when you could literally buy an AP, gold Day Date or Vacheron for that price 😂
It's called being retarded
Maybe there should be a list of ADs that extort customers into buying junk for an allocation.
The only jewelry I wear are watches, so its doubtful I would ever get a large spend at an AD. I also look at an AD backwards, I'm not going to buy high margin jewelry for people if you're dealing out the backdoor to the grey.
That’s why I like to watch you guys. these other gray market dealers will always tell you the time to buy it now because market has stabilized and prices about to go up yada yada
ADs don’t care how. Ice you are. ADs sell to the grey market.
Being polite is not an AD relationship hack. I'm kind to everyone I speak to. If youre not there yet, you still need to work on your interpersonal skills. Practice it on the people you dont like or admire ... and eventually it pays dividends. 😌
I'll probably sign up for a Skydweller in the mint dial. We'll see. But I'm not paying over retail.
When did michael refurn? This is the team i missed
Most Rolex you can sell for retail price if anyone wanted to buy a Rolex then a year later get a call for something else and trade out of their older Rolex for the new one I think it’s a smart way to go. The problem comes when you don’t trade out and now after telling yourself you would own one Rolex you own 3.
“Oh please like me so I can give you tens of thousands of dollars!” Seriously guys how can you say this with a straight face?!
Still never gotten a call bought vintage stopped caring if I ever do is what it is.
The small town AD thing is a great option.. if you're from the town, if not good luck.
How would I know the AD’s birthday! How is it going to come out in conversation? 😂 He will be like “get out of here you serial killer…”
You talk to them and get to know them, just like knowing any friends birthday. he doesnt mean their birthday but them in general. My sales lady told me about her son and we just talked about what watch to get him. In the end she bought him the watch I suggested. Hopefully I get my Pepsi soon
Remembering your AD's birthday so you get the chance to pay top dollar for a pseudo luxury product.
Thats some next level cork sniffing.
Blaming Rolex because of a bad A/D experience is like blaming a car manufacturer because of a bad dealer experience. To their credit, Rolex has canceled many of these A/D's because they were bad.
You, Teddy, and Federico are my three watch channels. You seem honest and smart. Could you ever do a video or part of a video on the JLC Sector dial Master Control. So little info on these BEAUTIFUL watch and it might be my biggest watch purchase because I saw ONE article on Hoodinkee. It is so classy and pretty. Thanks.
Wearing a Rolex anymore has become garish over the last few years. They are everywhere and anyone with a maxed out credit card can get one.
There are more subtle high end/luxury watches which are more preferable such as Breitling, Tudor, Omega, Tag Heuer, and other well-made Swiss makers.
rolexs were going out the back door, there was never a list
I was lucky enough to get my sub after 3 months a couple years ago with no prior purchases. I went in a couple times and chatted and then told them I’d follow up periodically via email. And then bam, they called me.
Awesome AD in my area.
You can't just recommend a white gold sports model to someone who was initially interested in a steel version though. 10k is not equal to 40K.
For most people who are into luxury watches and can afford them regularly I would imagine there actually isn’t a huge gulf between 10k and 40k.
@@ozzy1154 I don't know "rich rich", but I would think that even with a lot of money, people are going to think twice about spending 40 grand on a watch. It would certainly not be for me, but I wouldn't know.
This is true I can buy a sub but 40k is a car.
That's why precious metal sports models are around, a lot less folks can or will drop 40k on then.
What is that you said? When you buy grey market you’re not paying tax? Do grey market dealers not have sales tax?
Very contradicting points being made..
A white goals sub is 43 + tax, versus 35k on the gray market .. why would you want to buy it from the AD?
i've got a call from AD last monday 21st of august before my bday for an explorer. my first original list was explorer 2 polar and when the rolex announced thier explorer 40mm last year i went to AD and change my list. this was 17th of september 2022. almost 1 year of waiting since i change my list. i didn't build any rapport or something, i went there ask some questions and politely if i can have eoi on this model. i didn"t expect that i gonna get a call from them. the salesman told me i was the first to avail their explorer 40mm.
there are some rolex AD who also carries other brand that are telling you indirectly that you have to avail other watch to be able to get a chance for rolex watch. 😢

I asked what his secret was and he opened up a small bag he had clutched in my direction to reveal a plethora of candies. Said he passes everyone some candy (front desk person, security, boarding staff and flight attendants)we got comped drinks all flight and had the row to ourselves. After I got off I had to get a rental car, I first bought skittles and gave it to the check in clerk. They upgraded me for free to a convertible mustang.
