Everyone wants to drag race. Make a two mile course in the desert and time the trucks. Add a pressure measurement device on top of the seat and the driver's bottom and see how much force the truck is pounding the spine and single race to see who has the best time the Raptor R or the TRX

To be honest, 0 - 60 is irrelevant for this type truck. Definitely need an off road course. I agree that truck testing blogs do not test for what the truck is designed for. Typically, blogs do mud, rock crawling, and spinning donuts in the dirt.

A regular gen2 or gen3 raptor will already beat a TRX in actual offroad courses, the TRX outruns it’s suspension real quick & is quite nose heavy. What we need to see is a race @ the drag strip, the outcome offroad is already pre-determined unless Ram plans on upping the ante in the suspension/fire dept while also shedding lbs & adding true 4wd 😬

    • @raionshishi8290

@@MS-mr4zm So if this is the case, why call the TRX the new King when it can't even beat the V6 Raptor Off-Road ? The literal purpose of the Raptor is Off-Road racing, not drag racing at all, so as soon as people complain and say the TRX beats it on a drag strip it's already lost, it's not an Off-Road truck than anymore or can ever be if all people praise it for is it's power and drag strip capabilities, which is exactly what i have been saying to anyone crediting the TRX to be better than the Raptor as an Off-road truck it's bs. The TRX sucks at it's own job.

The Raptor R looks great and I would love to have one. My 2 issues are stealerships jacking up the prices way over MSRP and Ford doing nothing about it, and we are in the worst recession since the 1970s. The starting price of $109K is ridiculous. I can buy a 2022 TRX for $92K which is way over the TRX MSRP which will end up being $40K less than the Raptor R after dealer markups (greed). Why can't we order direct from the mfr? All you need the dealer for is maintenance for the 800 recalls.

    • @j.r.777

My local dealership here in Colorado won’t go above MSRP and may even sell for less than MSRP if you want to talk to them. Ironically, they sell both Ford and Dodge as well as Jeep. I just ordered a 392 Rubicon yesterday and am think about ordering a TRX Ram as well. I had previously said before that the only way I would ever buy a Raptor would be if it had a V-8 again and I won’t rule that out but I still think the TRX is a better truck and it will share like parts with my 2023 Jeep 392 JLUR.

Keeping that weight down, keeping the truck well balanced front/rear, keeping the handling predictable is what it's all about if you plan on using if for more than just racing to the Starbucks drive through that you might not fit in. :D

This is awesome that ford finally did this to compete with the TRX. That being said at 32:16 the engineer sounds a little unsure of how many they will be able to build, which is unfortunate because that means insanely high dealer markeups and people who end up buying these never putting them to use so that value can 'appreciate'. Specs and performance aside, this is ultimately where the TRX will still beat the Raptor R and that's on the basis of availability.

@Mach 1 And it doesn't need to, we know most people don't buy these for what they're built for. The average Tacoma likely sees more desert time than either of these trucks. The trx does good enough in the desert and outperforms the Raptor in almost every way on pavement so how good the raptor is in the desert is not as important from a consumer standpoint, as long as it has the look and feel. The R needs to be able to compete with the trx on the basis of price and availability so that they can actually sell enough units otherwise production will be short lived

  • @TheNotimprezed

I think the people that keep asking for the V8 would have been fine with a 5.0 tuned in between the current truck and Mustang to 440hp back in the SuperCab configuration. Heck I think most buyers would like a more basic shock package if it meant Ford could bring the entry point back to $55k. Then make a Baja package with the live valve shocks and whatnot as a 10k option. Then the full tilt Supercab could be $65k and the SuperCrew $70k, which is where I think current Raptor pricing is. There is certainly room for the Raptor R but I think there is more demand for a more entry level truck like the Gen 1, which I think started at $48k when launched.

Even a Tremor with a 5.0 option I think would have been more than enough for most. The base Tremor is $55k and the 5.0 is a $1200 cheaper option than the 3.5L. If you could have just optioned that into one or something. Make a Raptor and a Raptor R package for the Tremor. I think it's a nice truck but some of the pricing is just getting out there.

But whats going to make up for the raptor not having as much torque as the Trx is that 10 speed , not to mention the raptor is lighter , the engine weighs less , and is a smaller displacement engine than that heavy 6.2 hellcat engine , I’m not hating on the Trx I love those trucks but some of y’all are judging and not giving the raptor r a chance

The average V6 Raptor driver can pretty much accomplish anything off road that the new V8 Raptor can do. Most the time you won't be comparing your V6 up against the V8 or a TRX So beyond the bragging rights of owning the V8, im not sure the justification to drop easily $130,000 + if not way more from dealerships, depending on which state you purchase one from seems a tad bit asinine. Let's not forget its existence was forced based purely on the birth of the TRX. Ford never wanted to go this route.

It’s infuriating that some of us have been waiting for a V8 raptor to make it’s reappearance only for it to have a limited run so dealers can get limited allocations and Jack the mark up’s to nearly double the cost of the truck… I’m a huge Ford fan boy, but all the moves they are making with their performance products are purely disappointing.

@@kinsmen1764 all this fuss over every last rated horsepower is silly. Who cares if it's 700 or 710 I mean come on. The only reason it's making 700 is because rpm was lowered to 7k and they optimized the power curve for truck usage. It has a better power to weight ratio than the trx and it will murder it in an actual offroad racing environment (what it was actually built for). This thing has potential to make some crazy power if one wants if people can actually tune them. May require a stand alone if they aren't tunable which would suck.

Looks like the reporting over the last year was true, Ford had a hard time mating their truck to the Predator engine. Ford literally seems to be sad about their product. Almost like they didn't want to make it, but they "had" to because the TRX exists. RAM got to design a truck around their engine from scratch, and Ford got caught with their pants down when the TRX was unveiled. The Ford engine engineer in this video didn't offer ANY enthusiasm at all...Andre had drag information out of him. Andre: "Tell me about this beast" to "So...there is the dipstick?....Ford: Yea...that's the dipstick" LMAO!!
I have a 2021 TRX and don't think I would trade is straight up for the Raptor R. This might be the latest truck to be released, but they did not beat out RAM with this truck. I paid 78k for my TRX and the Raptor R starts at 109k. I don't see the 40k+ (without mark ups) value in any way. And to all of those saying, this truck is 400 pounds lighter, so it will be faster...lets see what the track times look like with 37 inch tires and less hp and torque. Also, just because it says 700 hp on the sheet now, doesn't mean that its 100% accurate yet. This truck has yet to be released and there has been talk for a year that they had problems above 650hp which is why it took so long to release this thing. A leaked engineer quote already has this at 690hp...not 700. Its still not a lot, but Ford gave up and released what they had. This truck is not superior to the TRX in any way and is clear they did not want to spend any additional time trying to one up it anymore.
I owned a 2014 Gen 1 and a 2018 Gen 2. The whole time I had my gen 2, I really missed the V8. I loved my raptors...until...I watched that TRX reveal live stream. They were so enthusiastic and they were excited to show the customer what they made. RAM was full of info like stats/specs/engineering data and you could hear they absolutely LOVED how the TRX came out. I was amazed watching that stream from start to finish. I saw that truck and knew I needed to have one. (also, people saying the TRX is Fiat are just Raptor fanboys, TRX is SRT. Just like the original Raptor was SVT.) This release of the Raptor R is almost like..."Shhhhhhh....we don't really want to draw attention to this." Its like they know this truck is a novelty Raptor and don't want it out there for people to be talking about. They also talk about very few will be made and no production numbers are available? Come on Ford...the release of your truck makes it look like your dog died. Personally, I'm disappointed.

I dig the truck, just not the one-price, $105k angle.
Makes it seem like they don't want to compete with Ram, head-to-head, in the $75-85k price range.
If someone wants to pay $105k, they'll get there. To start there, just a weird move. It will lower sales, but they'll get a nice profit on each unit. Also something you do when low on cash, which Ford is

so ford engineers a month ago said they were not getting more than 650hp with this application. which tells me this thing is making 650 to 675 crank hp and ford is stretching that number to 700hp. If it made 700hp they wouldve tuned it for an extr 3 to 10hp just to beat the trx hp number. Hp dyno numbers are a tool and there is so much more to it. but like how a lighter 750hp shelby f150 roush f150 etc etc gets beat by a way heavier trx. The numbers game looks bad knowing qhat the engineers said. for a truck starting at over 100k this thing has to perform. This is sad knowing after market companies like midnight performance can make up to 1200whp and have loads of them running 8s and 9s in the 1/4 with stock sealed coyote v8s makes me see again its just ford being ford. being 2 years behind the trx they needed to not just beat but decimate the trx since this is fords game. They shouldve made a street and baja version. street would be the appeal for the ppl that will never offroad a raptor and want speed. 80% of ppl buying these will never go offroad so street version wouldve been cool.
