Personally, I really enjoyed the Underground feature for Platinum too. The fort feature was already really cool in Ruby/Sapphire, but nothing was more satisfying than setting up a Rube Golberg series of traps for your friends to fall into during online multiplayer. This is a great breakdown of all the games!

I love X and Y (Gen 6). I thought it was very adventurous. It was the first gen to feature 3D animation, the first gen to have a new type since gen 2, the first gen you could change your clothes, the first (and only gen) with Rollerskates. It was also beautiful and had a great soundtrack. I loved them.
If they were more difficult, they'd possibly be my favorite games in the series. But no, they made it mind numbingly easy.

Gen 3 is my personal favorite gen. Going from Gen 1 and 2, to Gen 3 blew me away as a kid. The music, the color, the Pokemon, the lively feeling, the tropical vibes, the different types of areas you could explore. Forests, deserts, volcanoes, canyons, the ocean, sunken ships, islands, a floating city. The people you could talk to and connect with, the beauty contests which were a fun minigame, the puzzles, the secret legendaries, there's just so much for me to love about the games.

Here’s my best to worst Pokémon games list:
1. Legends Arceus
Pros: No gym battles, main storyline, side quests, gathering materials, not much trainer battles, interesting Pokedex, can catch all of the monsters nearly without battling them, and almost similar to Breath of Wild, interesting villains.
Cons: clunky controls, camera controls, difficult final boss battle.
2. Crystal
Pros: Has one of the best fire and water starters in the franchise, dark types and steel types are introduced, interesting storyline, can catch Suicine without him running away, Team Rocket returns, can catch Lugia, and Ho-Oh and travel to Kanto.
Cons: some have difficult Pokemon battles, trading.
3. Platinum
Pros: Has one of the best fire starters which will evolve to an fire/fighting type, more Pokémon to catch including the legendary ones, has one of the best Dex list.
Cons: trading, the most difficult Elite Four battles including Cynthia.
4. Yellow
Pros: Can catch the three starters, had one of the best main villainous teams.
Cons: Pikachu is your starter which is an serious disadvantage against the first gym battle, trading.
5. Emerald
Pros: Has one of the best starters both fire, grass, and water, one of the best Dex list, interesting storyline.
Cons: some had difficult gym battles, trading, legendaries are almost difficult to catch.
6. Sword/Shield
Pros: Can travel to other islands, multiple storylines, one of the most interesting gym battles.
Cons: almost had one of the worst starters in the franchise since Black/White, expansion pack must to be paid, trading, gigantamax.
7. X/Y
Pros: Had one of the best water starters, had one of the best main rival, interesting Pokedex, interesting villainous team.
Cons: annoying rivals except the main one, mega evolution.
8. White/Black series
Pros: One of the best villainous teams in the franchise since Team Rocket.
Cons: too easy to beat, trading.
9. Sun/Moon
Pros: Had one of the best fire starters which will evolve to an fire/dark which it can learn fire, dark, and even fighting moves, one of the best main villains.
Cons: too easy to beat, no gym battles, annoying rival than the ones from X/Y, Z-Moves, trading.
10. Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee
Pros: Can catch the three starters, no HMS, TMS can be used many times, similar Pokédex from the first game, dark moves can be used, fairy types are in this game.
Cons: One of the worst Pokémon games, can’t battle the Wild Pokémon, almost similar to the Safari Zone which makes capturing extremely frustrating.
For X/Y, the two rivals I liked were Serena/Calem (hands down the best designed protagonists in the franchise imo) and Trevor. The others were pretty meh. I also think the story would have been so much better if it had more to do with AZ. The lore was more interesting than the main story lol

My favorite youtuber strikes again! Subjectively, Platinum is my favorite. But objectively speaking, I do think HG & SS have more content, and that they are the favorites of most.

I skipped out on gen 4 as a kid. I didn’t like the evolutions and babies to previous existing Pokémon it just felt lazy to me. I know that’s the appeal to a lot of people but it didn’t catch me. I’ve played platinum since and it just felt alright to me, which made me realize that Pokémon runs on nostalgia.

I have thoughts similar to yours about the negative points of Pokémon SwSh. Pokemon Sword and Shield are strong proof that at some point Gamefreak just stopped caring about the franchise. The level of mediocrity showed in this game is insulting to their fanbase. The game is inconsistent to the core (rushed times and unfulfilled deadlines show clearly). Part of the mediocrity comes from management, a bunch of people rushing the game for the holidays and for 2019. That mixed with Gamefreaks usual level of mediocrity and laziness is a recipe for disaster. Pokémon became too big for Gamefreak to handle. Is inexcusable that a multi billionaire franchise like this has such poor development team, just sad and disheartening to see such a beloved thing as Pokemon being treated so lightly and rushing it to the point of making it the worst game in the main series. Pokémon stands as the black sheep of beloved Nintendo games. The Legend of Zelda, for exemple, continues to show great games not year after year, they show the game when it’s ready, even if it takes 2 more years, they show respect, they show integrity to provide quality and a magical experience. Gamefreak just wants to finish it and move on to the next one so management and marketing stops bothering them. The recipe for disaster: Bad Management, Marketing that doesn’t care, Unqualified Development Team, Bad Writers, Bad Animators. It just gets worst from here on.
P.S. About your ranking, I loved it, mainly because you put Pokémon Platinum in a high tier. For me, this game is a masterpiece of the Pokémon franchise in terms of exploration, lore, depth of the villain team's objective, battle mechanics, music, connectivity, implementation of methods to facilitate the encounter of Shiny Pokémon and other aspects. It is for these reasons that, in particular, I have a huge affection for this game and I have it as my favorite of the franchise (followed by HgSs and B2W2). It marked my childhood and my life as a pokemon fan and trainer as a whole.

I'd put platinum a liiiittle bit lower just because of the over usage of hms and the extremely slow and tedious obstacles. And I would put unova a little bit higher, maybe second best to hgss just because the story is really good and the fact that they made the game very pretty. But other than that, good video!!

HeartGold and SoulSilver are absolutely the best in the series. Easily my second favorite remakes, just razor blade thin behind Resident Evil 2 Remake. My favorite non remake pokemon game would be Platinum.

One thing Gen I games has that’s an advantage over the other Gens, is that you can catch any Pokémon from Gen I via glitches. You can also transfer these glitch Pokémon to Pokémon bank and Pokémon home. They will also have really good IV’s.
Because of this thing alone, Gen I is the only Pokémon generation where you can catch all Pokémon super easy.
Gen II has coin case glitch, but it’s super complicated and you can loose your save file.

Johto games are the most overated games. The level curve is terrible, a lot of gen 2 pokemon are either not available till kanto or are extremely weak. Johto and Kanto are lifeless and dont have much to do in them.
Pokemon Platinum was so fun and so non-linear, I never had any idea where I was going haha. I wish the animations had been a little faster, like maybe 25%, like Pokemon Black.
Great video and I agree with most points but maybe it could be better if you split the third versions, ultra versions and sequels from everything else like you have diamond, pearl and platinum on the second place, great I totally agree with platinum being on second place, it's an amazing Pokemon game but diamond and pearl were pretty flawed so they really shouldn't be on second place. Pokémon really shined during Generation 4.
The only thing I can say about HG/SS that I wish they had added... Were the islands from FR/LG. And maybe a bit expanded islands too. But I love those games so much and to this day I still play them.
