*Also, in Swiss settings, set “Vertical Filter” to “0” if you want to get rid of the “de-flicker” filter. It will make the games super sharp and the filter isn’t needed when all games are in progressive scan now, anyways.
That's a nice budget-friendly solution and the build itself looks sturdy. There are alternatives to the GC Loader, if you're having problems ordering one, you can't seem to find one, or money are really tight. Or, if you're really desperate, you can go full cheapo-mode and mod a Wii and play GC games through that.
It appears they fixed audio streaming support with this new revision of this clone, however games still exhibit wrong music playback or other various quirks unlike compared to the real GC-Loader. Namco Museum and Eternal darkness are good examples. Other games that don't use this audio technique seem to work without problems with this clone.
The fact there’s no soldering what so ever and is just a simple plug and install mod is a HUGE plus. Console mod via soldering is literally gatekeeping the true potential of the market. Granted, soldering isn’t THAT difficult but you REALLY need to know what you’re doing considering how sensitive electronic components are, especially when said components are 20+ years old. If you’re not at least at an intermediate skill level with soldering, then don’t even bothering attempting to do so.
Well, this piqued my interest. I've got a Gamecube where the laser went on it years ago that I've been meaning to do something with, but I haven't been sure what exactly to do with it. I think I just figured it out. 😉
With that price, its actually something worth trying out. Seems very plug and play. I've never modded a GC but, if I do, I'd play around with this first.
Thanks for the review video. Have 2 game cubes with bad disk drives laying around so this would be an interesting project. Don't have a 3D printer or have the time and skills to print the SD extension but seen them for about $20. Add in another $50 for the CubeODE card. Pretty good investment.
I'd be curious if you can run the Game Boy Player boot disc from that loader and then somehow load Game Boy games from an SD card because that would be pretty cool.
Great video. I just don’t get why you’d want to get rid of the disc drive when you can install a PicoBoot and use SP2SD2 and retain the drive. Better yet, hopefully if it comes out of Beta soon and you don’t want to solder, wait for the FlippyDrive.
GC drive laser is the worst going. No point pot tweaking and burning discs at 2x for optimal performance once it starts failing. Take it out and forget about it imo
CUBEODE V1.2 is so cheap now so even if you would buy two full sets with free shipping included: 2 x CUBEODE V1.2 boards and 2 x SD bracket 2 x SD extender Screws You pay less as 1 original authentic GC Loader with VAT and shipping that is only GC Loader board and not included SD bracket. I paid $137 for two sets included VAT and shipping.
@ I mean like is there something more similar to the Wiis loader design scrolling through the games with a horizontal selection with the game cases and and all that. Or do I have to have that blue menu just scrolling up and down. I guess I’m asking how customizable is that menu. I’m about to do this with my GameCube and just wanna know how far I can take it
My GC Loader has served me well. That said, they did put out an update that bricked some of them. Thankfully, I held off on updating until they fixed the issue.
Serious question. Is there ever a need to update? Mine has all the games and that’s all I need. What could they add that would be worth the risk or updating?
@@stevenewsome5306 There's been numerous fixes in terms of stability and optimization, in addition to features added like increased support for more SD cards, SD write support so that you can save to the SD card, etc. As long as your GC Loader is official, there's no longer any harm in updating outside of the usual potential harm of your electricity going out while updating.
There’s some misinformation in this video. These are identical to the GC Loader, with no differences in quality-only in price. I don’t agree with the ‘McDonald’s version’ comparison.
That's not misinformation. They perform the same function the way two different cheeseburgers do, but one is better crafted. Hence the McDonald's comparison.
Ordered a FlippyDrive but eventually it will be in my hand only in the end of the year (or january), so in my spare gamecube i will try cubeode thats already available. Original GCLoader seems to be very expensive to import to my country :(
Not sure about this clone one, but GCLoader supports up to 2tb. Though you probably don’t need more than 1tb, since each game is only 1.4gb if uncompressed.
@@TheGohthecrow If it is Swiss you mean, it really is made to work with the GameCube. Sure it works on Wii U and Wii, but Nintendon’t is better optimized for Wii systems. That said, Swiss is a lot more consistent in terms of forcing video options and then not breaking in gameplay. (PAL Starfox Adventures, only the menu works in 480p on Nintendont, then in-game it goes back to 480i) Nintendont do have the advantage that games can use the extra horse power of the Wii and sometimes run smoother, especially the 60fps hack of Super Mario Sunshine is butter smooth on Wii, but chucks hard on NGC. Short and long is, NGC with Swiss has better image quality, Nintendont on Wii has smoother gameplay and sometimes* equally great image quality. And Wii U is the same as Wii, but has green chroma overshoot, so there is a nasty green outline around a lot of colors.
He ripped all those games from disks himself. The disks are rotting and may not last another 30 years. The lasers are aging and weak. This seems like a good solution for people who cannot solder Picoboot mod ($5 alternative, but skill barrier) & also don't want to use Dolphin Emulator (free, higher resolution & excellent compatibility, enhanced features etc, but requires some kind of capable computer, and is not the original experience)

As a GC Loader user, it's cool to see a device that do the same thing for half the price of the original device. Great news for GameCube enthusiasm 👍
Just bought one.. burnt my laser after reading coped cds for a few years

But that method buries your SD card under a mountain of screws.
@@MikeHaslerVideos there’s a ribbon cable extension, I think made by LaserBear. It mounts the SD card right next to the console’s power LED.

is there any slow downs in games? i saw a video where he uses the cubeode and there was noticeable slow down in mario kart double dash
Not that I noticed, but I don't presume to be sure of that in all situations. That would strike me as odd.
Is there any sort of disc swapping option for games using two discs, such as Twin Snakes or Resident Evil 4?
As I recall if both discs are in the same folder then it'll just auto swap.

Does it work with the Panasonic GC?
I doubt it.
I installed a KUNAI GC and I feel like it’s a good product, but I don’t like holding start on power up just to activate it.

Such as?
awesome video any idea if you can use cheats such as code breaker or game shark
Yeah, I think you have to install a cheat text file though.
Perfect timing
When I play pal games they look black n white any way to fix it?
They're running at 50 HZ, if you're using Swiss it should have an option to switch to 60 HZ and 480p.
