I love your grow room! I was surprised when you didn’t bring them down there last fall. Isn’t it amazing how much neglect these plants can take and continue to thrive. When my husband passed away my orchids were terrible neglected. Wasn’t sure I even wanted to continue to grow and work with them. Then one day I went in and saw a couple of Vandas in spike, despite their neglect. These were bare root plants use to daily watering and nutrients. Now, maybe being watered every three days if lucky-and forget the nutrients-just too much work. Seeing those spikes was amazing. I knew if they could award me with this growth it was time to get back to caring for them. That was 2 years ago and today they are an integral part of my daily routine. So glad you and Jan are doing well and moving forward. What a wonderful summer lays ahead for both of you and your orchids. They look so beautiful and healthy. I look forward to seeing more. I want to better organize my grow room this summer while the plants are outside. Can you share with me the product name of the wire shelves you used and where you purchased them? I found it interesting your discussion about your exhaust fan. I’m having a difficult time regulating mine. Right now I have it come on every couple of hours to passively pull fresh air into the room. Then I have it come on at lights out and remain on until shortly before lights on. My room maintains a humidity level of greater than 80% at night if I don’t. At night when it comes on the humidity drops from 80 to 65% where it stays for the night. I am concerned about the abrupt fall in humidity but I’m more concerned about the high humidity with the mid 60 degree temps. As I was trying to achieve a natural theme for my grow room, I placed artificial turf on the floor. The turf stays wet, which is the biggest culprit for my high humidity levels. I do plan to remove it this summer as I now think that it is a big risk for bacterial and fungal growth. I’m just wondering if you have more thoughts about cycling your exhaust and how you introduce fresh air into your room. I’ve been told it usually takes a year to get a grow room performing optimally. That gives me about 6 months. Love your way and as always-you and Jan are in my thoughts as I walk with my orchids. Karen
Hope all is well with you Rick. Always love seeing your videos. 3 of my 6 phals are blooming right now. Common as they are, I think they are one of the most beautiful orchid types.
Great idea moving them to grow room...then just hand out the window... so you have them Halfway there! I understand the back thing... i finally quit watering my orchids to buy 2 in the kitchen sink and took over your idea. I have to Taco totes and one has just playing dehumidifier water and the other one has dehumidifier water with fertilizer seaweed fertilizer Epsom salts and it a weak solution of the fertilizer. One week gets high in nitrogen and other week it's high in the middle number another week gets high in the third number. My orchids are doing great because of your wonderful teaching. My orchids growing in bark and I let them soak in the Tucker tote 420 minutes to an hour but before I soak them in the fertilized water I rinse the leaves and the plant off with the plain dehumidifier water. All my orchids are still blooming I bought them mostly in December and January just a couple of quick blooming I'm shocked at the ones that are Reese biking along the original Spike. A couple that quit blooming The Minis now have bigger leaves than the original leaves. My leaves are getting a darker green and are getting shiny and seem like they're plastic from your advice about Epsom salts. I also watch A lady called Iman her name is spelled e m a a n my microphone on my keyboard spelled it wrong but it's also her first name and then Garden is the second name of her RUclips channel she also uses Epsom salts she's very interesting lady because she talks about her orchids are African Violets and her other plants. You might want to tune her in if you get a chance and watch one of her latest videos she was at Orchid grower in Daytona Beach Florida touring their greenhouse and they were throwing garbage cans full of orchids away. The owner said she can have whatever she wanted out of the garbage so she filled up three boxes with orchids and her husband apparently started to cry because he told her to stop where were they going to put the all those orchids and there I think five or six kids so she quit filling up the boxes with orchids. Somewhere and Bloom some work. But I'm worried about her because she washed them all very good when she got home to Missouri I think but she leaves the leaves attached that are turning yellow I do the same thing and the orchids she brought from the greenhouse after she washed them I noticed there were black streaks and black spots on these yellow leaves and I think they're probably disease so I made a couple comments on some of her latest postings that she needs to get those leaves off those plants so that she doesn't infect the other orchids she had at home and so she gets rid of that virus or fungus or whatever is causing black spots. She's a very interesting lady I'm sure I'm one of your days when you're not able to get around you might enjoy watching her I think the other person I watch Carolyn whose channel is Jacqueline with an O her channel is named after her husband Jack and her name Carolyn watches your Channel. Of all the people that I watch on RUclips you three are the ones that I watch the most and look forward to your videos and at numerous sites I always leave your name Carolyn's name and iman's name spelled e m a a n. Also on Facebook I belong to a couple to work at sites and if I'm only going to mention one name or one side on RUclips it's yours because you really know your stuff. I can't thank you enough for my healthy orchids! God bless you and your wife! You said that you started to film not to have a channel on RUclips but just to save things and I started to feel my orchids every once in awhile not to have a channel on RUclips but for reference I guess I'll have to go to RUclips channel and store them there but you're great and I appreciate you coming into my life and the Joy orchids have brought me via you and Carolyn. What you get is the reason I am now the owner and caretaker of over 30 orchids counting my Minis and then you came along to expand my knowledge am I care of these precious gifts of God. Take care my friend and may you have the best of health and your wife too
Rick, I wish I could send you a picture of my 3 year old phals spiking for the first time..... All thanks to you! I've had them as sad little neglected plants for so long that I don't even know what color they are so I am very excited to watch them bloom! It's amazing what information and guidance from you and a little love from me did for them in a couple months! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts! Thank you for all of your wonderful wonderful videos! I love them all! God bless you. I am praying for you. - Nicki
Your joint journey, filled with love for each other, accompanied by orchids, pups, struggles, and the onward and upward attitudes you both display....you have so generously shared it all with us....you might not know what a blessing you are to your orchid/RUclips friends, and obviously Jan has found her calling and is blessing those around her who are in need. You encourage and inspire me, dear folks. It would be easy to get hurt by people you thought were friends, or be deceived by ones you once trusted....but everytime I am reminded of you two I get encouraged all over again, Rick. I want the Lord to encourage you both as He uses you to bless me....you both touch my heart, everytime. Love to you both. Cara
…….thank you dear friend.....your words do the same, they give me so much comfort and strength....not a day goes buy.....we don't feel and see what he has done for us......love and hugs from Alabama....Rick & Jan
Rick, Jan and pooches...keeping you close in good thoughts and in our prayers. I am thankful I can still come here to review videos. Bless your hearts.
Hey Uncle Rick, great video and great news. I told the Orchid Society about you and how if they asked you to speak people would come so I am hoping to make something awesome happen so Stay Tuned Darling
Glad to hear all is well with Jan and you. Your orchids looks healthy and green. Love the blooms. With your help my Phal did very good with it's blooms. Thank you again for the updates. Storms heading your way. Be safe!!
Hey Rick, pray daily for you and Jan! I love that you have your orchids and it keeps you moving around and focused. Question for you regarding mounts. Do you soak the wood first (with nutrients) or not?
Glad to know your wife is getting better and better. Your video is a gift for this Sunday morning, it is like he in an amazing garden. Thank you, Rick. Take care.
Such a wonderful hobby. Observation of constant change and knowledge you share of that change and how it affects growth is a much needed guide for not just new growers but long ones as well. Almost everything i have is mounted now. For some odd reason i enjoy the tending more than the blooms themselves. The blooms for me is a bonus. A wonderful bonus that makes it all worthwhile. Good to hear you and your wife are doing well. Your voice sounds excellent today. Good days are a blessing. Ceiling fan. Uses less energy than an oscillating fan and gives almost zero noise. Using a variable control switch (that light dimmer that can be used to turn down lighting as a turn type) you can vary airflow from day to night on a programmable timer switch.
Hi Rick so happy to hear that Jen is doing much better, God is good🙏🏻🙏🏻 and your girls are beautiful I always enjoy watching your videos . Thank you for the effort . God bless my friend 😃🇨🇦
It's so good to see you have new post; best yet knowing your wife is doing well. I have one questions today: Even with a mist humidifier and keep adding water, I'm struggling to maintain 40-50 % humidity. How were you able to get 80% humidity,? Thanks in advance for your help.
Thank you Ricky for the update on your Jan and both you and Jan, I’m glad things are going well for Jan, that’s great news. Know your definitely not complaining, and accepting, but it is frustrating not being able to do what we could. My husband has been sick for about 3 months and now a little better but it’s taken it’s toll and so he’s a lot frailer and I realised that as I have lots of mounts as well which need daily watering as well as my pots making an orchid count of over 100 I have had to downsize a bit. I decided to put about 1/10 of my orchids (10) on our local website as a small collection for a Freebie and the First Lady to reply came and collected them within an hour yesterday. It made me so happy that she is relatively new to orchids had 3 of her own but very eager to learn more about how to grow them, and I’ve pointed her to yours and other channels for helpful advice. She really warmed my heart yesterday and made me happy I’d made that difficult decision. She got a mixed bag of dens, cymbidiums, oncidiums, and I still have plenty to gladden my heart. Lots of love to you both from across the pond.
…...Chris, so sorry to hear, ...pray he heals fast and you both get some relief…..but, such a special comment......I too struggle with the decision to keep my collection.....I will be doing a video on it soon......its something I don't want to do, but it is...…...what it is...I think what you did was wonderful and from the heart...….the next best thing to growing them ourselves is helping others grow them...…..thank you my friend.
Thank you for your kind words Ricky. It’s always a pleasure to help pass on the joy of growing to others, and made parting with some of them a lot, lot easier. Bless you bothx
Anne Hanley. Tasmania Au. Hi Rick, I gather that you aren’t in the best of health but you obviously love your orchids! I too cope with disability etc trying to grow what I have. All your experience shows in your beautiful plants.I hope and try to do the same. I’m currently doing the tea & lemon wet and dry routine and it seems to working beautifully. I can only get 3 sizes of leca beads ( expanded clay ) no lava rock etc so could you please tell me why you won’t use it ? I sincerely hope that you Get Well soon. My thoughts are with you.
Wow your collection is amazing... just started my collection of orchids when my boyfriend gifted me one for Valentine’s Day this year. So glad I found your channel, I love it! I’m learning so much I cannot wait to grow more and use what I’ve learned from you. Thank you for sharing. So great to hear your wife is getting healthier! Much lovexx
Great to hear all is very well with Jan and yourself. She has really done amazing work, healing, positivity. Your orchids look SUPER. Yes, please do more slow camera looking at them, they are a joy to look at, so healthy. Talk about nutrients, that's the music for the parade. 😁 🌿👍
Glad to hear all is going so well. Your orchids look great. I have to tell you. I’ve planted all my orchids into lava rock and river rock. They are literally growing like weeds. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. I truly appreciate it.
I just recently found your videos and I'm watching them from the beginning. I just got my first orchid and don't want to kill it! It is a Phalaenopsis and it is blooming beautiful pinkish blooms. How often do I need to feed it? Is it like my African Violets, and feed it 1/4 to 1/2 strength every time I water? Like I said I am going back to the beginning to try and get answers. Fingers crossed. :)
So glad to receive such good news, Rick. It is a good thing the growing season is arriving and you can moove orchids outside. I bet they are ansious too. Big hug to you and Jan 💝
Hi Rick and Jan! Sounds like those orchids belong in the welding-grow room in the Winter my friend. They look good and must really love the environment you are providing..(as do your knees and back 😉 I bet I know of an RN that would probably agree!). Thanks for the update, as always we look forward to hearing from you. Fair winds my friend.
hello Rick !!! i like to know Donyou have a routine to feed sock watering flashing ? can u share them ? or you folliw the plant soeakjng to you and no schedule?
Probably a month away before I can move mine outside...battling mealy bugs and scale inside the house. Moved several to greenhouse and treated all of them heavily with Bayer complete....still have more to treat inside of house but they are blooming and growing well. Glad all is looking brighter for you!
Your plants look great Rick, you sound great, and you tell us Jan is doing great too. Happy to see that all is well in "Lville." You are all doing the right things.
So nice to hear from you. It's wonderful Jan is able to do what she loves and encourage others too. Your plants look beautiful and happy as always :) God bless
Wow, I like the way you how to put your orchids so beautiful especially with the White Color racks and your orchids look so healthy plants I really like 💕
Prayers to you Guys I worked in one hospital for almost 40 years, Respiratory Therapist loved every minute of my job that does get in your blood. I guess God sends you in the way he or she wants you to go.
I see humidity is 79 what kind of humidifier do you use? Glad to here good news about Jan🙏🏼 I have a room one we have used when we are sick 🤒 what kind of floor is in this room?
Donna Cone if you go back through his channel and his posted videos a year ago last fall he wanted his orchids to keep on growing once fall and winter was coming so he made that room that he's in right now that used to be his welding room. He explains the setup he explains the fans of ventilation system the lights everything it's an excellent video maybe he'll put a link to it so that you can go right to it it's sunk a lot of money into that room too
Rick 🤔 I can’t get my humidity up more than 56% does the warm miss make the difference rather than cool mist? They are expensive an if it will increase humidity I’ll get a warm mist! Thank you 🦸🏼♂️ 😊
Hi Rick! Hope you’re doing better this week, and I pray Jan is still getting stronger. I’m seeing a couple of shoots starting out of my bag baby Catts and some root growth on my Phals! The info you’ve shared on nutrients is working! Question: It looks like you have Acurite Thermometer|Hygrometer units. I planned on ordering one, but on Amazon they only have 4 ⭐️ and the ThermoPro brand units have more, also with thousands sold. The reviews seem to be for other products or fake reviews, so I can’t trust them. Would you get an Acurite again? Also, the pH meter I got only goes down to 7.37 in the 7.0 stabilization solution no matter what I do. Your pH meter is what brand? Thanks for responding, if you get an opportunity. Looks like we’re in for a few cool nights. Prayers to you both from Tuscaloosa! 💕Lynn
thanks Lynn...….I use an Oakton...….www.amazon.com/gp/slredirect/picassoRedirect.html/ref=pa_sp_atf_aps_sr_pg1_1?ie=UTF8&adId=A0489678JN550ISUUSO6&url=%2FOakton-EcoTestr-pH-Pocket-Meter%2Fdp%2FB01MYV3938%2Fref%3Dsr_1_1_sspa%3Fkeywords%3Doakton%2Bph%2Bmeter%26qid%3D1556623347%26s%3Dgateway%26sr%3D8-1-spons%26psc%3D1&qualifier=1556623346&id=4376882751051816&widgetName=sp_atf
So good to hear your voice and that you are ok and wife is on the mend. Your orchids look great with no clues of the neglect you say they had. Looking forward to more. I have learned so much from you Rick. Saving steps is always a good idea.
Hi Rick I have been trying to grow orchid plants for a long time but every time after some times my orchid plants roots tip started to turn black.I use only maxi crop as a fertilizer. Plants are kept outside of my room temperature is around 36 c . Please help Thank you
Hey brother, so awesome to hear your voice! We sure miss you! So glad Jan is doing so well! Such great news! I emailed, figured you been busy. Life can just get ya sometimes! You and Jan are such an inspiration to me! Your orchids look great as usual! Wish my thumb was as green as yours! 🤣 Blessings brother! Love and hugs from WV!
Hey brother I wondered. I was worried about you. My father in law died suddenly, I email about that and I sent my blooms. I had that Cattleya bloom and I also had my appleblossom bloom. Get in touch as soon as you can. Love and hugs from WV
Sorry I never know where to post question I just click on one video and hope for the best anyway. You had mentioned the St. Augustine Orchid Society uses pond water to water with. I live in Northern Wi and I,m surrounded by lakes would that water also work to water my orchids with?
You and Jan inspire so many, not only because of the beautiful orchids, but because you are clearly people of faith. May our great and loving God bless you, now and forever.
I have “discovered” your channel when researching cal-mag. I od’d on your channel and am a new subscriber. I feel like I have just been introduced to a wonderful family. May God bless you both in your loving healing and support of one another.😇 Now the question. I have not been tending orchids long. I started with a few big Phals - rescues and hand-me-downs. They came with large exposed top roots (not aerial) that are black and crusty. Should they be removed if there are other healthy green roots? How can I tell if the are functioning roots? I can send photos if that would help in the diagnosis. Thanks.
Hi again. I just watched the video you had before this one on nutrients. I did post a question. Anyway, always thrilled to see such beautiful flowers. I was wondering though, in your grow room, as you run the humidifiers. Is the wood on the walls coated with any kind of moisture resistant material? I would like to eventually update my grow room, but would be concerned about mold, due to the high moisture. Would you recommend something that would prevent moisture from degrading the wood walls, floors and ceiling? Anyway, thanks again for showing your beautiful orchids and congrats on so many more subscribers. Blessings as always to the both of you. Rita
…...Rita, you ask the best questions...…...the walls are painted with a latex paint....that's all...…..an epoxy would be better for longevity...…...the key to moisture control is in the air flow...…...I keep fans running 24hrs in mine......and I have exhaust fans as well...….I have 2 - 800cfm fans that can completely change out the room air 2 times in one minute....If I spray the walls with water......or spill water on the floor...….it dries pretty fast...…...never gets a chance to stay damp....or get mold started...moving air in the room is key ..I use timers on my fans.....they turn them off and on at certain times...During the daytime...….the lights are on, and the room gets warm, ...the fans run higher and move a lot of air in the room...….it keeps the room temp even.....and makes sure no hot spots occur, that could burn leaves, stress plants, etc.....As evening approaches, the lights go off at sunset, and ....I lower the fan speeds and let the humidity build in the room ..The orchids open their leaf stomata at this time...and they get several hours of high humidity to hydrate ..…then late at night, early am... my exhaust fans turn on, and start pulling moist air from the room to lower the humidity and keep those moldy from issues starting...
thank you my dear friend...….I used the green twist tie...….after several months they have lots of roots attached....and are holding on themselves now.....
Rick what do you use to fertilize your air plants? I heard that some growers use any fertilizers they have in hand but what do you use.Thank you and best wishes to Jan.😄
Jesus Tapia go back through Rick's videos and you will see what he uses skim through the different post. He uses calmax and other things and he explains it very well look for the videos that have the fertilizer as like the picture that shows what the shows going to be about he's very explicit. After following his explanations of what he fertilizes with my orchids now have many beautiful green thick shiny leaves and are setting multiple branches on their Bloom Spike.
Kathleen Murphy , thanks for the explanation , i recently bought an air plant that had brown tips of the leaves and by what I know that means that they probably used chlorinated water I just cut the leaves but now I just want to help her feel better by using a little fertilizer I heard that some growers like brad from brad’s green house uses whatever he has in hand but thanks for the explanation good luck on your plants😀.
Jesus....great question...…...I feed them the same food as my orchids......they soak as often as the orchids...…...In nature they would all live and thrive on the same trees.....getting the same nutrient exposure.....the like Nitrogen often and calcium as well...…...calcium is key to them blooming.....
Rick L. Orchids great reply Cal is the key to bloom but we get Cal with mag or nit where we can find only cal ? or you think only cal is not cheloted ? somebuses egg shells dust !! what about those in ur opinion?
I think us plant people love taking care of our plants but we gotta take care of ourselves, too. Do what you gotta do to make it easier on yourself. I have to move mine into the kitchen on watering day but it's only 7 phals. Must be so much work to move as many plants as you have when watering day rolls around. Question: I noticed the Jack's 5-12-26 fertilizer in your last video has 8.5% sulfur in it. Does that high percentage of sulfur affect the orchids? I'm curious because I noticed other orchid fertilizers out there either don't have sulfur listed or in very very low percentages. Appreciate any knowledge you can share on it.
this is another great question.....most would never ask...…..thank you...…..the Jacks has 8.5% Sulfur in it yes.....I don't feel its to much.....not if you flushing regular.....Sulfur has a tight relationship with Nitrogen....with low Sulfur they cant absorb Nitrogen well....Sulfur is one of the 3 main secondary nutrients required for healthy growing. Sulfur toxicity is rare even in high concentrations...…..it leaches very fast...…because sulfur is everywhere and found in abundance its not added to many nutrient mixes.....….great question.
Rick L. Orchids Hello Rick How are you doing thesevdays !! I am on cal Mag since mar2019. Do you think ir's not enough time to get with feed or what can be other reason. note plz My media is coconut cheeps and i use nutiant by method and i am using RO watee, plz suggest me likely trouble shooting !! Thanks
I think you found the issue...…….they may not have had enough calcium for long enough...…..keep up the calmag, and they will grow new shoots,...……..orchids want to grow...….they only stop when we do something to cause it....
Hi Rick, thanks for the update. You mentioned you can provide 80-100% humidity. How many humidifier do you use? I have one humidifier but maximum humidity i can get is 60-70%. How do you do it?
Hi Rick, I have been intensely studying your videos. I would love to write up everything you've been teaching. In fact, I've already taken a copious amount of notes 😄 I could email my write ups for you to review, and then we could discuss the best place to put up the write ups. If you're interested, email me on Gmail at my first name dot mwoo and we can chat. I'd love to hear from you. I can send you over the notes I already have if you'd like!
Good news! Thank you for sharing.

......you are such a incredible person my friend...…..I would be honored to help the AOC of Birmingham......anytime anywhere......
So good to hear thing's are getting better for you and your wife. Your orchid's are thriving as usual. God Bless💞😊
Glad to know your wife is getting better and better. Your video is a gift for this Sunday morning, it is like he in an amazing garden. Thank you, Rick. Take care.
Good to hear from you again. Glad to see the plants are doing well but more importantly that you and your wife are doing well.
I'm not as passionate about orchids as I used to be, I'm focusing more on my frankincense trees. Glad Jan is doing well and you are too!
…….I understand.....your always looking for a challenge, The trees are incredible...…keep doing what you do my friend.....
So happy to hear that you and Jan are doing well.
Continued prayers and blessing to both. 🌈💕. Orchids room is amazing with beautiful blooms 🌸🌺
Im in a small room sealed very tight.....I use a small warm mist humidifier....
Glad you and Jan are doing well. Beautiful plants as usual. Thank you .
Very glad that all the positive energy is going to you. Wishing you and Jan a very peaceful and happy Easter.
Much lovexx
May god keep on blessing u and your wife, love your plants.
❤️
yes …..feed it low amounts every time you water......
I LOVE your setup, thank you for sharing your GORGEOUS plants, and happy to hear you and your wife ate doing better.😍😍😍
So glad to receive such good news, Rick. It is a good thing the growing season is arriving and you can moove orchids outside. I bet they are ansious too. Big hug to you and Jan 💝
……..you always make me smile with your comments...….thank you my friend.
Hi Rick. Glad to hear from you. Your Orchids are really looking great! Say howdy to Jan for me. God is good.
thanks Linda…...so good.
@@rickl.orchids 😊
Hi Rick and Jan! Sounds like those orchids belong in the welding-grow room in the Winter my friend. They look good and must really love the environment you are providing..(as do your knees and back 😉 I bet I know of an RN that would probably agree!). Thanks for the update, as always we look forward to hearing from you. Fair winds my friend.
hello Rick !!!
i like to know Donyou have a routine to feed sock watering flashing ? can u share them ?
or
you folliw the plant soeakjng to you and no schedule?
I don't use a schedule for watering or soaking them..........I watch the roots......when they need water I soak them.
Probably a month away before I can move mine outside...battling mealy bugs and scale inside the house. Moved several to greenhouse and treated all of them heavily with Bayer complete....still have more to treat inside of house but they are blooming and growing well. Glad all is looking brighter for you!
Happy to hear that your wife is doing so well , she sounds like awesome woman.
Wow, I like the way you how to put your orchids so beautiful especially with the White Color racks and your orchids look so healthy plants I really like 💕
Rick your orchard are looking great.. I'm happy you and jen are doing fine
Prayers to you Guys I worked in one hospital for almost 40 years, Respiratory Therapist loved every minute of my job that does get in your blood. I guess God sends you in the way he or she wants you to go.
Best part of the day when Jan comes home, I bet you sit in between the dogs wagging your tails in unison 😅
heh. heh heh...…..exactlly
@@rickl.orchids 😁
Thanks for the update :)
Jan is one wonderful strong person. So glad you two are doing so well. Glad she is through with those
treatments.❤🌸
I see humidity is 79 what kind of humidifier do you use? Glad to here good news about Jan🙏🏼 I have a room one we have used when we are sick 🤒 what kind of floor is in this room?
Donna Cone if you go back through his channel and his posted videos a year ago last fall he wanted his orchids to keep on growing once fall and winter was coming so he made that room that he's in right now that used to be his welding room. He explains the setup he explains the fans of ventilation system the lights everything it's an excellent video maybe he'll put a link to it so that you can go right to it it's sunk a lot of money into that room too
I use a warm mist humidifier......small one, the room is sealed very tight....the floor is concrete with epoxy paint on it.....
Wondering about inside house. Humidifier mine I have to fill everyday I’m looking for on that holds more water than a gallon 🦸🏻♂️😀
Rick 🤔 I can’t get my humidity up more than 56% does the warm miss make the difference rather than cool mist? They are expensive an if it will increase humidity I’ll get a warm mist! Thank you 🦸🏼♂️ 😊
Hi you surly touch my heart
Thank you for being who you are.
Hi Rick! Hope you’re doing better this week, and I pray Jan is still getting stronger. I’m seeing a couple of shoots starting out of my bag baby Catts and some root growth on my Phals! The info you’ve shared on nutrients is working! Question: It looks like you have Acurite Thermometer|Hygrometer units. I planned on ordering one, but on Amazon they only have 4 ⭐️ and the ThermoPro brand units have more, also with thousands sold. The reviews seem to be for other products or fake reviews, so I can’t trust them. Would you get an Acurite again? Also, the pH meter I got only goes down to 7.37 in the 7.0 stabilization solution no matter what I do. Your pH meter is what brand? Thanks for responding, if you get an opportunity. Looks like we’re in for a few cool nights. Prayers to you both from Tuscaloosa! 💕Lynn
thanks Lynn...….I use an Oakton...….www.amazon.com/gp/slredirect/picassoRedirect.html/ref=pa_sp_atf_aps_sr_pg1_1?ie=UTF8&adId=A0489678JN550ISUUSO6&url=%2FOakton-EcoTestr-pH-Pocket-Meter%2Fdp%2FB01MYV3938%2Fref%3Dsr_1_1_sspa%3Fkeywords%3Doakton%2Bph%2Bmeter%26qid%3D1556623347%26s%3Dgateway%26sr%3D8-1-spons%26psc%3D1&qualifier=1556623346&id=4376882751051816&widgetName=sp_atf
Thanks, Rick! ❤️
So good to hear your voice and that you are ok and wife is on the mend. Your orchids look great with no clues of the neglect you say they had. Looking forward to more. I have learned so much from you Rick. Saving steps is always a good idea.
OMGoodness you sre amazing, the plants sre amazing
I could not believe your Air plant had that big flower. You do have the GREEN THUMB.🌺🌺
Nice update Rick, glad you’re both fine now, looking forward to more videos.
Beautiful 😍 your videos give me life. Have a wonderful week 🌱🌸
Been playing musical orchids as well for the past weeks, until the sun settles up high for the summer 😎
Hi Rick I have been trying to grow orchid plants for a long time but every time after some times my orchid plants roots tip started to turn black.I use only maxi crop as a fertilizer. Plants are kept outside of my room temperature is around 36 c . Please help
Thank you
Hey brother, so awesome to hear your voice!
……..sorry sis......my email is not working...…..setting up new account soon.
Hey brother I wondered. I was worried about you. My father in law died suddenly, I email about that and I sent my blooms. I had that Cattleya bloom and I also had my appleblossom bloom. Get in touch as soon as you can. Love and hugs from WV
…..oh I missed the apple blossom...…...so happy for you....I will I promise....
Yea I got 2 different ones. A yellow and a Kalaei Pink one 4 blooms on yellow and 5 on pink
Sorry I never know where to post question I just click on one video and hope for the best anyway. You had mentioned the St. Augustine Orchid Society uses pond water to water with. I live in Northern Wi and I,m surrounded by lakes would that water also work to water my orchids with?
……..great idea.....and yes it could be great...……..test it with your meter...….if its under 50ppm...…...I would use it..
Thanks so much will give it a try. Hope you guys are doing well and Jan likes her job, prayers for both of you.
May God bless you both in your loving healing and support of one another.😇
Now the question. Thanks.
Welcome...…..live roots will plump up when wet...…..dead roots will not...…..if they are dead you can remove them....
Some of the Orchids I repotted are dropping there blooms! Guess there ok 👌🏼
Rita
…...Rita, you ask the best questions...…...the walls are painted with a latex paint....that's all...…..an epoxy would be better for longevity...…...the key to moisture control is in the air flow...…...I keep fans running 24hrs in mine......and I have exhaust fans as well...….I have 2 - 800cfm fans that can completely change out the room air 2 times in one minute....If I spray the walls with water......or spill water on the floor...….it dries pretty fast...…...never gets a chance to stay damp....or get mold started...moving air in the room is key
..I use timers on my fans.....they turn them off and on at certain times...During the daytime...….the lights are on, and the room gets warm, ...the fans run higher and move a lot of air in the room...….it keeps the room temp even.....and makes sure no hot spots occur, that could burn leaves, stress plants, etc.....As evening approaches, the lights go off at sunset, and ....I lower the fan speeds and let the humidity build in the room ..The orchids open their leaf stomata at this time...and they get several hours of high humidity to hydrate ..…then late at night, early am... my exhaust fans turn on, and start pulling moist air from the room to lower the humidity and keep those moldy from issues starting...
And you Rick, answer with the best answers! Thanks! :)
Hi!😀so glad to hear that you and Jan are doing well! 🙏👌❤love the air plans! How you attached to the wood?
thank you my dear friend...….I used the green twist tie...….after several months they have lots of roots attached....and are holding on themselves now.....
Rick L. Orchids thanks rick and yes calcium is a really fundamental step in any plant to bloom thanks for the tip
Rick L. Orchids
great reply
Cal is the key to bloom
but we get Cal with mag or nit
where we can find only cal ? or you think only cal is not cheloted ? somebuses egg shells dust !! what about those in ur opinion?
@@rickl.orchids I'll add that little nugget of knowledge to the bunch your channel has already given me. Thank you!
Hello Rick
I noticed my cat new shoot dying back
whats the likely reason you think ?
new shoots dying back is calcium deficiency...…...either not enough calcium or they cant absorb it for some reason......
Rick L. Orchids
Hello Rick
How are you doing thesevdays !!
I am on cal Mag since mar2019.
Do you think ir's not enough time to get with feed
or
what can be other reason.
note plz
My media is coconut cheeps and i use nutiant by method and i am using RO watee,
plz suggest me likely trouble shooting !!
Thanks
I think you found the issue...…….they may not have had enough calcium for long enough...…..keep up the calmag, and they will grow new shoots,...……..orchids want to grow...….they only stop when we do something to cause it....
Oh I forgot to say your plants looks fantastic
Hi Rick, thanks for the update. You mentioned you can provide 80-100% humidity. How many humidifier do you use? I have one humidifier but maximum humidity i can get is 60-70%. How do you do it?
…...Hey Mary.....I use one small humidifier, its a warm mist....the room is sealed very tight.....
Hi Rick,
I have been intensely studying your videos.
I can send you over the notes I already have if you'd like!
thank you...……..I will get back to you
