    Thank you, Rick, for taking the time to show us what you meant! I love your videos, and could listen to your voice all day. BUT, I am a visual learner, you can tell me a dozen times, or show me once! I was having problems with understanding, but now it is as clear as day, and I am sure I am not alone. You are a wonderful source of knowledge to all of us, and you and your lovely wife are such an inspiration for everyone of us. All the best to you both......

    Thank you!!! So so helpful!! I so wish you could come share a coffee on my porch one morning and I could show you the result of all YOUR help growing my orchids! I would show you the once sad, neglected phals that sat in survival mode for 3 years that are now bursting with new roots, leaves and BLOOMS! I would show you vandas with dozens of new root tips and dendrobiums with new fat shoots. And so many previously pale, floppy, mottled leaves that are now lush green and thick "like plastic"! All thanks to you!!! You are amazing for spending so much time and thought to help us grow like you. Thank you and God bless you always 🙏♥️ - Nicki

    Well Rick I'm watching one of your videos right now it's almost 4 a.m. and I can't sleep! You have such a soothing voice and I always learn so much from you that when I'm having a tough time going to sleep I put one of your videos on and listen to it and I learned so much as I finally go to sleepy land. I miss your videos I only started with orchids less than 2 years ago what I found your channel and Carolyn's Channel and you both got me off to a great start with my orchids. I've got them to rebloom and I've lost a few along the way but over 90% of my orchids are still with me I have over 50 now. I've had most of them rebloom their second year with me of course turn the air conditioner on this spring helps that buds on the ones but didn't start the bloom in the fall or winter. I've learned so much from you and I try to impart that knowledge when I make a RUclips video on my channel. It's not a fancy name it's just my name cuz I use my phone I don't know how to change it to something fancy at least I'm talking about the name of my channel. But I always try to remind people of mobile and immobile nutrients and other things that I've learned from you! God bless you and your lovely wife did your type of need I hope help is there for you I wish that disease would let you come back to us and stop taking you on a trip away from all of us

I pray today was a very good day for you, I hope you get a good night's rest and have a very blessed day tomorrow. You are truly missed out here and I wish you all the best God has for you.😁

    Here I go again it's too easy to talk to you and leave a comment when I use the microphone on my cell phone keyboard. I never thought it would be so much fun to see new root tips! But they're so cute in a funny sort of way. My grandson said they look like little worms or little snakes coming out of the roots. And when you feel them they feel just really neat so smooth it's fascinating to see them Sprout off of the side of the plant life Ely dogs has ordered off of a route I used to think wow he's more interested in the new growth in the new Roots than he is on the beautiful flowers but now I can see why without those new routes and those new leaves there won't be any flowers next time thanks again

Just because you have only done this for 2 years, doesn't mean a thing! You have done nothing but learn, experiment and spread your knowledge about your orchid experience far and wide. You are a gem in the misinformation world of orchids. I am surprised you don't have 50,000 subscribers. But wait another year, you'll have them! Blessings as always to you and Jan. Rita!

Truly I know these videos you create are JUST to inform and get us all thinking. What a wonderful girl Jan must be. thank you for the kind words......if your shopping for nutrients........BetterGro is fine........or K-lite from Rays is one Ive been wanting to try.........egg shells can provide calcium.....they are just slower releasing and your orchids may need supplemental calcium until the eggshells build up.....Australia has a special place in my heart .......there is a town named after my great(x5) uncle.........he was behind the miners rebellion.......Peter Lalor

    Hey Rick glad your doing well and Jan too. About a year ago you did a video on mobile and immobile nutrients great video by the way. Question I have is with the seaweed nutrients and hormones will the orchids such as cattelya's put those in reserve and if they do are the mobile from pseudo bulb to pseudo bulb

    • @rickl.orchids
      @rickl.orchids  5 лет назад +3

      ,,,,,,,,what a great question...……..Im not positive that hormones are mobile...…...but I think they influence no matter their location in the plant. I believe they have a short life span....and due to that...... I think we ….as growers need to keep a steady supply of supplemental hormones around them...….this one I will have to research more on...…….thank you for this question.

    My goodness Rick!! You are definitely the orchid nutrition Genius 🙌🙌 thanks for the drawing and all this info. I just need to now figure out how I can adjust all that to my environment and make the calculations when hard water is used😳 I’m currently using 20/20/20, epson salt and sea weed kelp. Should I add a little calmag to that mix? I am so confused because of the water I use..

    • @rickl.orchids
      @rickl.orchids  5 лет назад +3

      …very kind thank you......calcium is the one thing that makes orchids grow like orchids should...…..it allows them to grow......in nature they would have vast amounts around them all the time....I add calcium every time they get water.....I either use calcium nitrate in my nutrient mix.....or I use calmag in foliar feeds.....but they always have calcium around them...…...tap water or hose water has calcium in it …..but its calcium carbonate......and the orchids cant break the calcium out of it......when we drink tap water the acid in our stomachs breaks down the calcium and we can absorb it......orchids cant do that. ……Tap water also contains large amounts of sodium......that's the white residue that collects on our pots......not calcium...…..Even on mounts, sodium builds up and can burn roots and stall growth...…..Good pure water is "Key" to good root growth...…
      ……….I would recommend a R/O unit or collect rain water...…..it will fix 95% of most orchid issues...….Your 20-20-20 is fine......the Epson salts and kelp/seaweed is excellent to use...…….Keep up the great work...……..Let me know if ever I can assist......happy to help.

    Another amazing video. The info you provided was right on and you have such a talent for teaching. You’re reaching 10,000 people and providing them the information they need to grow luxurious orchids-in a way they are all sure to understand. I don’t know where you find the time to care for all those orchids, share it with us, respond to everyone’s comments and just do life. You are an amazing and humble man, my friend. Have you thought at all about setting up an automated irrigation system? I am beginning to ponder the idea myself. I water most of my orchids daily and that task is beginning to consume a bit too much of my time. I enjoyed the cardinal providing you with some background music. He was almost in tune with mine. The words you spoke from your heart, at the end of the video, filled my spirit-thank you. As always-you and Jan are in my thoughts as I wander my orchids.

    That's what I have come enjoy about your videos so much. No myths or " I heard" just simple straight forward facts. You don't say "do this" you break down information about growing into digestible meals that is easy to understand.
    These facts and meals you present get me thinking and doing my own research.
    I have made choices based on that research that has led to amazing results. So thank you for making me think. My plants thank you too!
    Btw your visual aid to this video was killer! So clear and concise!
    And your so right about the maxillarias, once I started regularly saturating the whole plant it took off growing and I may even have my first bloom soon?!!!Hope I didn't just jinx myself, I'm taking it down to water tomorrow so fingers crossed it's a bloom forming!!

    Wow....this video is FANTASTIC! Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you for this video I guess you can tell I can't thank you enough! Your drawing was spot on and helped to visualize what's going on. My phalaenopsis are getting new roots and new shoots and tips on Roots I thought were like half dead! They're also getting new leads and I already told you some of them are setting another new Spike or a new branch on a spike. I have been using the seaweed fertilizer I bought at Home Depot on sale Before Christmas since that time. And I've been giving it to my files every week along with once a month the lime you use and some Epsom salts not a whole lot but a little dissolved in the water I soak mine in. Even though minor in bark you said the roots drink while they're sitting in the water well they soaked so I soaked mine for a half an hour. But I also rinse them off first with dehumidifier water and then and what the leaves and the roots in the bark so that when I put them in the fertilized water hopefully they don't get burned in a way I don't know where that's something to worry about but I just rinse the ball. And then my dehumidifier water in the second tote or tub has fertilizer in it along with the seaweed fertilizer and the Epsom salts not much. I don't have one of. I don't have one of. I don't have one of those gadgets to read parts per million. But my fertilizer is not full strength and I alternate one week with the first number higher than nitrogen the next week with a second number higher the Blue and the 3rd week the last number higher. If they're blooming repeat a second week of the middle number higher. Now that they're getting new roots and new leaves I sometimes make the nitrogen or the third number two weeks in a row not trying to coax them to bloom anymore.

    Thank you 🙏🏼 you are amazing 😉. I can’t say thank you enough I mean that if you were to stop videos don’t know what I’d do I for sure think I couldn’t grow Orchids 😀 you help me so much thanks! My Orchids are making big roots with green tips I get excited just looking at them. Wondering why you put them outside in summer is it not to hot for them? Do they grow n bloom better outside in summer? Insects don’t bother them outside? I’ll rig something up under patio if that’s good. But no place for them to get rained on. I did catch rain water 💧 this week to do my watering , you say that’s good for them. It is lower PH than my RO water! Your super 🦸🏼‍♂️

      thanks Donna.......R/O is fine...or rainwater......some rain can be more acidic.....depends on where you live......They love the warmth and sunshine......they are tropical and don't like temps under 60*.......but they love it in the 80-90's.......and they love the rain...........bugs wont bother them if they have enough calcium in them.....

      The ones you keep in house do you put them outside for summer also? It’s ok an they will do fine inside right? 🤔 I like that there inside where it’s cool I have enough to take care of outside in heat! Like you I have. Large patio full of plants and flower beds full of flowers for the summer

    Also your plants every one of them are beautiful even without blooms. Some of the other Orchid Growers that are very experienced I look at their Orchid plants and their ugly and even when they're in bloom they're ugly. They don't look healthy but yours look beautiful. One of the reasons I haven't gotten any other kind of work at except a phalaenopsis is because once the plant stops blooming I don't want to look at something that doesn't look nice. Plus the other orchids don't stay in bloom for very long just a few weeks but my fails have all been blooming since December and January and out of 30 there's only a handful that don't have blooms on them those are the ones that are vacationing outside right now. I hate to put my blooming ones out there but I guess I should it's not fair to them to be stuck inside the house!

    Right back at you ❤️ from new Hampshire! I have to tell you, I like watching the TV show naked and afraid, each time the cameras pan on a howler monkey in the trees I think of you telling us how orchids receive their nutrients 😁... thanks for sharing all this great information, it's paying off for me, I have not lost a orchid due to malnutrition in months and months...now I have a question , phalaenopsis schilleriana, the species, primary crosses and hybrids..I have several of these kinds as do you, I have noticed that I can not keep a spike on these types after they are done blooming, they consume the spike with each blooming...your mottled leaf pinlong and your pink girl ... have you kept the spikes on these? I've been very curious and have not found any information on this...thanks Rick.....till next time....Kelly.

    • @rickl.orchids
      @rickl.orchids  5 лет назад +1

      great questions Kelly...…….I have not had luck with spikes on the mottled phals...and thats the reason I started looking at hormones......I think its a timing thing with nutrition and hormones in mottled phals......I changed a few things and now one of them is holding its spike...……...stay tuned.
