Top 10 Winter Switzerland - Christmas and more! [Travel Guide]

- Winter in Switzerland is a great season, as there are plenty of great things to do! Especially up in the Swiss Alps, there will be a lot of snow. There will be no greens during Winter and thus, the activities during the white season will very much differ from Summer. Winter is the season for skiing, Christmas, sledding, carnival and snow in general. Having travelled across the country during this season, I present you the Top 10 attractions of Switzerland during Winter.
Up in the Swiss Alps, there are many beautiful villages that appear specially nice during Winter. For example Grimentz is very much worth to visit during this time. Just nearby, there is the Zinal Glacier that looks very fascinating with its natural ice cave. You will need to go for a two hours’ winter hike to reach the glacier. December marks the beginning of Winter and also of Christmas season. Visit the many Christmas markets all around the country, in the larger cities or in the villages. During this month, many towns transform into charming Winter wonderland. Sledding is another great and fun activity to go for during Winter. Great toboggan runs (tracks) are up in Andermatt at the Nätschen or at Bergün. Feel the thrill of the speed while going downhill. Great views you can get at the Grindelwald First, you will see the many peaks of the Swiss Alps and also can go for skiing. Very enjoyable is the cliff walk at the Grindelwald First that takes you around a massive rock. Also consider visiting the village of Grindelwald itself. Zermatt is a very highlight of Winter up in the Swiss Alps. During this season, you will often get unobstructed views to the Matterhorn, the landmark of Switzerland. There are various places from where you can get a brilliant view over the Matterhorn: At Zermatt village itself, Sunegga, Blauherd, the Rothorn or the Gornergrat. All in all, so many great things to do during Winter in Switzerland.

Nothing will ever beat the beauty of Zermatt . I’ve only been there in the summer though. What would you say is the best time in winter to ski there? I man the least crowded, or not so expensive times

For 4 years, I’ve set my life goal to visit here. I’m 18 now and going to college soon and I’m getting closer to reaching it. Once I go here I’ll consider my life complete :)
Go to Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg, crazy amazing places. We went in Switzerland a couple of years ago and it still my best trip so far. We visited a couple of other places such as Grindelwald, Interlaken and a couple of castles (I suggest you Chillon, truly awesome). Wish we had more time. Great memories.

Hi. What would you wanted to have had included? I am open to suggestions of yours. I had to choose places that guarantee a lot of snow, thus certain regions are difficult to be considered. Also, not everyone skis so I had to leave the ski resorts out.
Criticism is one thing, but you also could suggest a few places. I am curious which places you feel are missing on this list.

Um ein Video mit familienfreundlichen Orten zu produzieren bräuchte ich Familien mit Kindern, die mitmachen möchten. Das zu organisieren ist nicht einfach. Viele Eltern wollen nicht gefilmt werden, vor allem nicht deren Kinder. Das kann ich sehr gut verstehen.

I am planning a 12 week trip in winter 2024 possibly on the magic pass at Grimentz and Saas-fee etc. apart from air bnb any good websites or tips to find good value accommodation. will be looking at 4 weeks at least in Grimentz. thank you.

@@DjemoGraphic hello, we will probably visit Basel and Bern, then head down into Wallis into grimentz, saas fee, Leukerbadand maybe few nights in Zermatt. Its mainly a snowboard trip but great to see bit more of Switzerland. I’ve also considered staying in Tasch and commute to Zermatt for 10-12weeks or stay in Arosa for 10-12 weeks. Thank you

Hi. You can do the Winter hike at Zinal as shown in the Number 10. However, hiking like in Summer is not possible in Winter. You only can do Winter hiking trails. Winter hikes take longer.

Hi. Thanks a lot. The prices change every year, which is why I prefer to not do that. I though understand it being convenient for planning but I have mentioned in 1 video the train to 1 place costs 80.- CHF and the year after it was 110.- CHF.
I'm coming to Switzerland for Christmas, but I'm kinda worried about the energy situation... Is it gonna be a cold winter? Are restaurants going to close? Do I need to resort to cooking at the hotel?
Hi Julius. It seems unlikely that we are going to have an energy shortage that would severly affect our life here. But we won't heat the rooms to 23°C anymore, this saves a lot of costs and precious energy. You most likely may enjoy your vacations as usual, don't worry!
