Atomic Heart: Trapped in Limbo is Mundfish's latest DLC, and included, weirdly, CSGO Surf, Subway Surfers, and a slew of other references to other games. Did Atomic Heart developers successfully remake surf? Or is it some weird, distorted, version of the original? And how did Mundfish make surf easy and accessible for the masses?

I think it makes sense the physics are so different, it really has to appeal to anyone who plays it and 90 percent of people don't have the patience to learn to surf.
@Toasty_Fluffand the good thing is that i think most surf players understand that the mode is really difficult to even get into. Getting people to understand that you shouldn't be holding W at all is hard enough, so the changes that the Atomic Heart devs made so they could make it work will be understood by the majority of surf players.
Props to the devs for putting their own spin on things, there's certainly some love put into the game.

the base game is absolutly nothing like the dlc, its practically a waste of money, watched pyrocynical play it and the dlc was so poorly made you could call it a scam

I doubt the stomp shockwave is specifically taken based on any one thing. It's a fairly common mechanic in platformers and shooters for decades.

Is this one of the only recreations of surf that’s possible to play on a console?
I think it’s cool that the controls for the mode were designed both to work well for players that are new to surf along with having players using controllers in mind.
there was a release of CS:GO for the XBOX 360 which had overpass so you could technically surf around monster i guess????

@@marlon.8051 It didnt. I used to play the csgo version on the 360 and it literally was the oldest version of csgo you could imagine. Maybe they added it later but I have not followed csgo for a long time on the xbox because it was just really bad.

another big factor is that they had to balance it to still be fun on controller since the dlc is also available on console
As an atomic heart enjoyer and avid csgo surfer i think this is sick
This was actually quite an interesting video.
I've hardly played much CS at all, be it 1.6 or CSGO or CS2
But i have played through all of atomic heart along with the dlcs, the combat and music as well as the overall aesthetic of the game in my opinion is absolutely amazing, just sadly hard to recommend because of how insufferable the main character is.
As far as the surfing part, one thing i quickly realized is that flicking the camera can get you some insane air, more so than normal surf. As you said the game actively propels you forwards on the ramps so the physics of sliding don't really matter that much, especially since flicking the camera as fast as possible even at base slide speed can make for huge launches.
Makes sense that a bunch of slavs would make a surf counterpart in their game

It's really 50/50. You either will love it or hate it. For me it's a fun thing for an evening and there's some lore for the game which I was the most interested for.

I have no idea Atomic Heart had made surf a part of its DLCs. Honestly, it's super cool. I don't care for it not being the source surf, I just think it's really cool that something extremely similar is an official game.
The ground-pound circle has been a thing in games for a long time. One of the base game bosses has the same thing.
Someone tell the devs they could've just made this to begin with, without needing to have spent years on the base game first.

Atomic Heart is tbf, one of the best games I've played, you should give it a try
All the bunnyhopping and sliding are hangovers from source being based on the quake 1 engine, and the quake communities have long colourful histories of trick jumping and parkour. Was the AH DLC inspired by CSGO? Probably. Was that entire side of the CSGO community original in its ideas? No.
speedrun for this dlc gonna be so cool (exept if they use out of bound like the full game)
So find a "no glitches" speedrun if you hate the core idea of speedrunning.

You can mod bunny hop into the game, surf is not entirely like valve games, to improve your surf expirience to control your height move your mouse UP and DOWN in Y axis (this also allows you to unstick from ramps i believe), its super casual but still fun. Whole DLC is fun but subway surfer part is imo too long, some KZ moments (rotating platforms) can be a bit annoying.

In the end of the main game you end up in Limbo and well this is the Limbo lmao..feels like the developers just wanted to have fun and create something goofy
You can take CS out of an ordinary person but you can never take CS out of a Slav 💀
The main issue stems from the fact that its not source but UE, and therefore in order to make a surfing gsme they had to add a different honestly half-baked approach, leading to interesting movement (if i had to guess your speed is multiplied by the sinus of your exit jump). The rest of the dlc was generally good, apart from the finale but when surfing is half of the game you tend to notice when somethings wrong with it.
Love the attempt, and it could probably be decent fun, but CS surf is a byproduct of janky physics. Emulating it requires an attention to detail and knowledge that many probably won't bother with.
If they wanted it to feel like CS, it would probably fuck up a lot of other gameplay elements, so it's easier to modify the ramps than to mess with the core physics of the engine.
I think 45 is too much for this. But that's maybe just me

Hey, if you thought the DLC is fun, I'd suggest the base game. Story is subjective, but the gameplay was beyond fun, loved the combat a lot and NG+ was amazing to have (something I wish CP77 would have)
I played Atomic Heart a little bit when it came out on gamepass... isn't it about killing the robots that turned evil wtf is going on in this dlc 😂

After some practice I figured out that its pretty much 100% dependant on the mouse button, Not trying to call you out, but I noticed shortly after you said the ramps were "sticky" you then showed yourself flying off the ramps, I assume you figured out the ramps gimick, but didnt correct the claim. Also, unlick source, you cant strafe, which is what you were shown doing quite a lot, probably giving the impression of it being "sticky".
I feel like you are reading a bit too deep into it in the second half. Atomic Heart's main game also has parkour, but there is only one challenge area where it's that extensive. And the boss shockwaves you have to jump over were already done by a different boss in, also in the main game (but there still might have been some inspiration).

The collectibles are cool if they follow optimal line (In air too). It'd be cool if surf reward you for not only getting from A to B, but also how "perfect" you did it

I think the easiest way to say it's sticky is to just say it works like a Source ladder that pushes you horizontally
