    • Aikido technique NIKYO...
    Here is the basic aikido technique nikyo, applied against some grip and strike attacks. Nikyo is one of the pinning techniques, katame waza, as opposed to the throws, nage waza.
    I mostly show it slowly for clarity, and mainly gotai (from a static starting point). But there is also some jutai (moving as the attack approaches). In most cases, there is little difference between gotai and jutai versions of nikyo, except the timing.
    Nikyo is one of the basic techniques in aikido. It simply means “second teaching”. It consists of a wrist lock that can be quite convincing, when done correctly :) In its basic form it ends with a pinning on the floor - I show it a few times on the video, but far from always.

    Hello Stefan, thanks a lot for uploading this video. I don't practice Aïkido but i train in Taï-chi and i found a lot of similarities with Aïkido. Do you know if there's any relation between the two ? Apart from both being "soft" arts of course.

      Han Onym, I'd say there are lots of similarities. There are several teachers who combine aikido and tai-chi, and the result is quite interesting. Maybe the softness is the very key to their similarities.

      Thanks for your answer. I'll look further into aïkido to learn more about it.

    sensei, is it better to transition to nikyo grip from the top as in 1:37 as oppose to when you get your uke to your hip like in traditional ikkyo?

    • @StefanStenudd
      @StefanStenudd  6 лет назад +2

      Afiq Radzi, the nikyo version at 1:37 is omote in a basic form, which is difficult to learn and not very practical. The first version, at the beginning of the video, is definitely easier and swifter against aihanmi katatedori (but only applicable to that attack). Generally speaking, I regard the ura version as a more trustworthy nikyo than omote, whatever the attack.
