  • A "shorter" video to sum up which lenses has become my favorite lenses to use on the Zf, both modern and vintage glass.
    Not a review of either the lenses not the Zf, but rather just a list of my favorite lenses and some brief thoughts on them before ending the video with a slideshow with images taken with all the lenses i talk about in the video. Also adding the info of what lens is used in the slideshow to get an idea of the look and character of each lens.
    Enjoy!
    Music used is from Soundstripe.
    Slideshow start lens nr One 7:12
    Lens Nr Two: 9:04
    Lens Nr Three : 11:36

    Beautiful pictures, Martin! Love your vintage combos. I have a ZF and the 28mm and use them for street and vacation pics. I've enjoyed the B&W switch more than I anticipated! I also used the ZF for weddings with the Neewer grip, and though it's still tough on the hand and wrist, the low light image quality and focusing are amazing like the Z9. The camera really is the best of old and new.

      Thank you :) yeh i can see how the 28 really shines when your on vacation. haha yeh me too, i also downloaded som new profiles for the Zf, even more fun now playing around with the B/W switch! :)
      Can image the Zf gets a bit heavy in the hands after a wedding, look forward to testing that maybe this spring or summer hehe....well maybe not so much the hand hurting but the camera testing ;)
      I agree :) is a beautiful fusion!

    I also have the first three lenses you mention. I also have the Jupiter 8 50mm f2 (also m39 screw mount), a soviet copy of the Zeiss lens. I just got the Canon lens yesterday on a Canon 7 camera so I am in the process of comparing it to the others, especially the Jupiter and a Nikkor 50mm f1.4 G lens that I have always loved. My first impression is that the Canon lens has more chromatic aberration than the others, but the bokeh seems very good.

      @martinandreasson5504  4 месяца назад

      Nice :) The Jupiter seems like a fun lens, have had my eyes on it from time to time being recommended that lens by others i the past too.
      Yeh sounds right regarding the CA on the older lens. The Canon is SO sharp for being such an old lens especially when stopping down a tad. But most of all the character is very cool i think. The Canon also looks great together with the Zf in my opinion, and nice to handle etc.

    Thank you for this very informative video - really appreciate you take the time to make this. One question: how would you describe the physical feeling of the Voigtlander 40mm 1.2 compared to the NIkkor 40mm f/2 SE? it should feel heavier as it is metal versus plastic, but size-wise which one is bigger? I also prefer lenses with aperture rings. Thank you.

    • @martinandreasson5504
      @martinandreasson5504  4 месяца назад +2

      Thank you for watching :) yeh as you say the built is of course different and there the Voigtlander wins hands down :) At least when it comes to quality and handling. But the Nikon 40mm wins when it comes to weight and size if you value compactness and weight more :)
      Overall though for me id say the experience of the Voigtlander is nicer, then i count the handling with the ring and focus and all the physical attributes i love using a Vintage looking lens. And of course the image quality is in some ways better too i think.
      But then again for some applications like street photography or more casual shooting and valuing compact and weight the Nikon is better in that instance :)
      Also the Nikon being surprising as i say in the video, actually giving you some very decent images its a lens i keep on the Zf 70% of the time just for being so useful :)
      Regards Martin.

    I wished the Zf would have been made for f-mount glass 😢.... (in fact the whole z - line) I was heavily invested in Nikon F mount glass for my D700. Tried the Z5 2 years ago, but found the ZF adapter to be a real pain in the backside. I eventually sold the Z5 and most my lenses, only kept the Voigtländers 40/2 & 56/1.4 andthe PCE 24 and 45 for nostalgic days 😊 For daily stuff I use the Fuji xe4 and XH2s.
    Btw, somehow sad to hear you sold your DF! Thx for sharing your thoughts on the Zf and glass!

      I hear you, and agree completely! I still have my favorite F glass left. I havent used it on my ZF but still have my Nikon D4 for them. Also have a Nikon F100 which its nice to use on from time to time. But yeh, would have been amazing if it had been F mount on the Zf, for me it would have been a "worthy" replacement for my Df.
      Now speaking of that the DF will never really be replaced totally by my new Zf, it will be something else, a great and fun camera making me able to do other things i could not with the Df. But the magic of the Df sensor and those F lenses will always in my opinion be unmatched in a way sadly ..
      So yeh i also miss it and will occasionally. But i have taken so many photographs i love with it over the years, so will always have them at least. And maybe down the line il get another one if i find one in decent condition hehe :D

    I want to know if the plastic mount will allow more chance for dust into the sensor .

    Hi Martin, I’ve just discovered your videos. Excellent work. The Voightlander 40 1.2 is on my wish list. I still have the Nikon Z7 having come from Fuji because the cameras and controls were too small for my large hands. I love the Z7 but yearn for the Zf analogue controls. The DX mode in the Z7 gives me two focal lengths per lens which I use frequently. Is there a DX mode on the Zf? If there is I could be persuaded to swap. Greetings from UK.

      Hello Christian and Thank you so much :)
      I think the Zf for me at least have really ended up somewhere in the same spot when it comes to filling that digital/analog void between analog and digital cameras for me. Similar to the Df for me.
      Although to be fair the Zf looks better and feels more modern. The sensor i the Df is still my favorite, but the other tools you get with the Zf kind of nullifies that edge .
      And speaking of the VL 40mm it makes the Zf an even better candidate for that spot. Just wish Nikon had their own, and still wishing they will in the future , make a Nikkor lens with that nice aperture ring and nice feel like the old styled lenses had. Fingers crossed!
      About the DX mode, im not using any DX lenses myself, and just making a quick search i see many saying that the Zf adjust when you put a DX lens on, but dont take my word for it having that mode you speak of. But im betting it does :)
      I hope that it does and you in the end get the Zf, its a wonderful camera, although with some quirks like all cameras.
      Going to make some sort of review on it after even more time with it.
      Have some more lens testing to do, and also puting it through some more shooting situations before i have the best overall view of this camera.
      Regards Martin.

    for the non nikon lenses, what adapter did you use?

  • @joshk2294
    @joshk2294 4 месяца назад +1

    Unsurprisingly, Nikon F mount old lenses with aperture control rings are not in your list. The Nikon Z software disabled the use of Nikon F mount lenses' aperture rings, which is a real bummer.

    • @martinandreasson5504
      @martinandreasson5504  4 месяца назад +1

      Yeh its great that we are able to use them, but not fun if you cant use the ring for sure. I just detest the FTZ adapter as well, so big and clunky so i rarely use my Nikon F lenses anyhow. And now being able to adapt M glass or other vintage lenses that are sometimes smaller and have greta character i just dont do it that often. I started adapting the 28mm and 20mm Nikkors to play around with on the Zf, they are not that big so are quite fun to have on there too :)
