  • There is a lot of information out there regarding weight bearing status after meniscus repair. In this video, I interview Dr. Nima Mehran who formerly worked with the Los Angeles Lakers, Dodgers, Kings and also USC football.
We discuss weight bearing after meniscus repairs, healing times with different ACL grafts, and managing expectations with patients.

Hi Dr. Wesley. So if I understood correctly, I could bear weight in my recently repaired medial meniscus? Here Dr. Nima says that the hoop stresses actually push the meniscus together. Maybe in my case it wouldn't apply, or yes! I had a bucket handle tear, nothing else, all the other structures of the knee are in perfect condition. I was told not to bear the entire weight of the body in the knee, only partially, but I have my doubts about it. Thank you.

I had acl reconstruction and meniscus root repair 16 days ago. I had a 2 week follow up with my surgeon yesterday and he pushed me to go full weight bearing and start walking as pain allowed. I haven’t had any pain in the knee since day 3 and started walking as I was leaving his office. Everything that I’ve read online said 4-6 weeks non weight bearing for my repair so I was pretty surprised that he wanted me full weight bearing after 2 weeks. Needless to say I’ve felt great in pt this week. I have full extension, 115* of bend, and swelling is going down drastically. I’m just praying it doesn’t come back and hurt me with a retear

@@varun-72 doing great. Running and lifting normally. My insurance company denied any further pt treatment after 5 months post op. So I’ve been strengthening and training on my own in the gym. Back to normal life and regular work routine. Only thing that sometimes bothers me is it band stiffness on the outer portion of my leg, but after stretching it out everything feels good with it

I had a complete posterior horn medial meniscus tear. Does this mean that I shouldn't weight bear for 6 weeks? I'm not sure if that meant it was the root or not.

I think in general it’s quite controversial. I had an ACL reconstruction + medial meniscus repair and my surgeon said I could bear 20 kilos immediately. I’m 23 days post op
