I really appreciate your neutral attitude on reviewing a device. I can tell you have a very analytical mind about how things work from a consumer standpoint. I'm really curious what kind of music you make just by this mindset alone. I dig the review. Thank you!

Just wondering if it’s possible with the Komplete Kontrol M32 to assign the pots/knobs to parameters within logic like volume automation/ synth parameter modulation etc and if so, how does one do it? I’m considering purchasing this keyboard tomorrow as it has the ideal amount of keys and dimensions for a course I’m attending abroad in July.
Except for very rudimentary control, Ableton Live is *not* supported. The encoders for instance don't automatically (blue-hand) assign to Live's devices. In fact, you can't control any VSTs with this thing outside of the Kontrol software, which means you have to slap an instance of Kontrol on every single channel to control anything at all. This can hardly be called "supported". In comparison, most other average keyboards *are* supported by Ableton through remote scripts (that don't work with the M32 and the A series hardware) which means you easily can control devices, VSTs etc without having to manually assign parameters. So fact of the matter is, when it comes to Ableton the M32 is lacking control compared to most other keyboards. That's the truth.
Just a warning - NI decided not to allow any MIDI messages for the buttons and main knob in MIDI node. So to use it with unsupported MIDI-compliant software, you just got a keyboard with 8 knobs and two strips. Great work, NI. Old Maschine was way better as a MIDI controller and that's a shame. For NI products? Sure, it's a good NKS controller. But I expect more from "MIDI keyboard". When I look at the MIDI keyboard, I count the buttons, assume some have some internal function, but the rest should be assignable.
Hey man! I was just wondering if a lot of that included software can be downloaded on an ipad. I know that a big reason to buy this midi keyboard is for the incredible amount thats included. I just don't have a great computer at the moment so I'm weighing my options in terms of midi keyboards for ipad compatibility. Thanks!
If I plug this controller through the USB MIDI Input of my Apogee Duet for iPad & Mac, and connect the interface to an iPad Air 2 through lightning cable, would I be able to play the virtual instruments inside an iPad DAW (like, for instance Cubasis)? Just as a MIDI Keyboard, I don’t mind the other functions.
What upper dawg? Good video however; you did Not hit my question. I would like to know if the M32 will work with imaschine2 in keyboard 🎹 mode. Since it is a native Instrument product I’m wondering if they will talk to each other. Thx in Advance 🚒
Currently between getting an M32 or Maschine Mikro Mk3 for my home studio. The one thing I am worried about is how the keyboard mode and chord mode for finding melodies is etc.
If i'm going to get a Maschine MK3 or Mikro Mk3, should i also get a Komplete M32? I have a Akai MPK Mini mkII and use Logic Pro for everything. But the mpk mini is starting to seem hard to program or map to Logic even though it's rated the best midi controller
I had an MPK Mini mk2 and I absolutely hated it. It was just too cheap and flimsy. I already had an lpd8 which I wanted to replace with the integrated pads and man, the pads and pots on the lpd are much better. I am now waiting for an M32. Having stuff automatically and smartly mapped on to the M32 will be a joy, and I believe I'll get more stuff done on few but better sounding synths. As for drum samples, I already have a lot of them and will carry on using the LPD for drums
@@ElvisE46 you have to install native access, put the code of the keyboard in (you should have gotten a card where the code should be on, and install: kontrol and maschine essentials2. Also someone made a video so check it out if you have the time
I I was looking to get a cover for my Maschine MK3 to take on a work trip I’ve got coming up; but since this keyboard is almost the same price as that case I might just buy one of these. 🤔
If it's not worth it to you, or doesn't fit in your workflow, you shouldn't get it. It's super useful for me, so this is my explanation of why. If you happen to click my link to buy it, I get credit. I don't see the problem with that but hey, what do I know

Good video. Currently, at the point of writing this post, the M32 is £109 (GBP) however, NI are bundling Komplete Select as part of the M32 purchase. Whereas if you just buy Komplete Select, it will cost you £169.00 currently! If you want the M32, then this is a good entry into the NI apps ecosystem. Which later on, means you will have a cheaper upgrade path to one of the higher-tier Komplete bundles if you so wish. I am a Reaper DAW user, so the fact that the M32 doesn't integrate with Reaper out the box, was a concern for me. But the reaper community have created an integration profile to get the most out of this keyboard with Reaper.
I have a question and a possible answer to one posed in this video. Regarding getting samples to stop playing: Rather than shift + mute, has anyone tried double-tapping the stop button? That's what gets all samples to stop playing on my MPC Touch, both on the device and in the MPC 2.x software. My questions is: If Akai claims that MPC 2.x is now compatible with KK instruments, does that mean that I should be able to access the functionality of the M32 from inside MPC, without having to have KK software running? I apologize for that newb question. I'm very new to all of this. At some point when you mentioned supported DAWs, it seemed to touch on this question, but that seemed to pertain to a permission that starts from KK and goes out towards DAW software, whereas Akai announced a while back that MPC would be compatible with KK instruments. I'm not sure exactly what, if anything, different is implied by the two.
Hey nice review and video! I’m just curious that is it possible to use Arp, scale, and chord mode in Ableton Live as well (out side of KK)??? Any thoughts and comments would be really helpful, thanks a lot guys! :)
So what for all those controls if you're going to need to access them in the software anyway because the keyboard does not have everything? Better you buy a small simple controller like the Akay LPK25 Wireless or the Korg Microkey Air 25 (bluetooth) that fit easily in your bag, right? Better yet if NI makes a Maschine with keyboard and audio interface!
The M32 does *not* come with the same sounds as the Maschine hardware, just a cut down "selection" of them. I'm starting to think this video is sponsored by NI, at least by giving him the hardware for free.
Bro, you wanna know why Pro Tools doesn't work with NI equipment or damn near NOTHING from the modern era? Because the creator of pro-tools still believe Fred Flinstone and the DeLorean are suited for today's modern world! Jump OFF the sinking Titanic called Pro Tools bruh. They are just like Blockbuster, Tower Records and Radio Shack.... too damn slow to change with the times! You should immediately switch to a platform of today's world! I use Ableton, but I think YOU should try Studio1 by Presonus. They are forward thinking AND have a simple template that converts ALL the protools commands seamlessly over to Studio1. You don't have to even learn much of anything. And it's dope for producers.
I still can't get over the word book bag, us aussies call them backpacks! This is not a COMPLETE product this is a - a entry level portable controller, none of the NI keyboards have no PADs I think if you want pads you need a Maschine.
I have the M32. If you are getting it to make beats I strongly suggest the 25 key. The keys are weighted, glow in the dark and it’s like carrying a mini piano in your bag. One feels great and the other feels more plastic. Unless you are on a tight budget because the 25 key cost more.
