This was so helpful and made the job easy for me! I bought a 2010 Civic second hand and have taken it to the shop many times to get various things done. After some frustration over certain things not being done well or super expensive, I finally decided to try and do certain repairs myself. This was one of them. Thank you so much for making it easy for people like me to take care of our vehicles!
Did the job today. Thanks for the easy to follow video. Took about 35 mins to complete. I dropped 2 of the 3 10mm bolts behind the metal cowl. Those are slippery. Broke the center clip on the plastic trim. It slides out to the left and it will stay in. It’s the same kind of clip that the door panels have. Thanks again. Great step by step video.
+Miss Diddy Thank you for the great reply. We love to empower our customers by showing you how-to perform your own auto repairs while installing our high quality auto parts. Have a great day! 1aauto.com
Awesome video. This job can also be done without removing the cowl cover but it’s a squeeze. I used a 1/4” drive ratchet with an 8 mm deep socket. If you have trouble removing the hose, then remove the valve first and that’ll give you more leverage to twist the valve off the hose. Took less than 10 minutes.
Thanks! It worked. The check engine light didnt go away until i cleared the code from my odb2 device, i hope it doesnt come back. I copied every step you made in the video, including your masking tape hack with the 10mm bolt. Broke 2 of the clips though and didnt bother putting them back in, still feels solid without them. Very helpful video. Subscribed.
I have a 2011 Civic. I thought the model didn't change till 2012. At any rate, not something I'd want to try and do myself, but excellent video for those more confident around engines. Great tip with the masking tape!
Pause 6:06 if you follow the thin metal tube starting from the top left to the top middle of the screen. Then go straight down there is a hose with a silver connector. What is that hose and what does it do? Mine is ripped and seems to be the source of a vaccume leak. Or at the very least ripped which is not good.
Doing it myself after study from this video. Quite useful in real action. Change that valve successfully. Waiting for computer check complete. Again thanks a lot! You are Awsome!
The hardest thing about this job is trying to keep from getting annoyed at having to remove all the crap that allows you access to the replacement part.
6:28 what is the name of that hose??? I've been looking for it online and in autopart websites and nothing! My car is missing that hose for some reason...🥺
Does anyone know where the hose that connects to this valve goes? The hose is missing to this sensor on a car i purchased and cant seem to find the hose or its second male connection.
Nice work but I think its easier to remove the air filter box and the throttle body flex hose to gain access but that's just my opinion. Those are some brittle clips and small rusty bolts holding on that cowl.
my car cabin is smelling like gas/exhaust fumes after i been on the road for a while, and the scanner points out to this piece (check engine light is on), does this fix that? (already replaced gas tank fuel cap cause i though it can be that)
Would this give the inspection a failed on Emissions test or Evap test? I recently got work done on the car and drove 100miles to get things on the ECU settled but when I use this ODB tester the Evap still gives me a failure
roadcarver71 I have an 05 ex coupe myself, and the purge solenoid is attached to the canister in the rear u nderpart of car. The screws on mine are so corroded I have to remove the whole canister, p1457 code, smh...
This really helped me replace mine thanks alot.have one question though if you or a viewer could help me out.one of the bolts holding the purge control solenoid valve assembly on the head twisted off do you know what size bolt the specs so I can get a replacement?I got it Jimmy rigged with c clamp holding that side but need to replace it soon.thanks
Thanks for this video. This is super helpful. I assume for 2011 Honda CRV the repair would be similar, right? Also 9 out of 10 if I got P0497 and P145C codes on CRV, is it normally the purge valve that need to be replaced (possibly due to overfilling the gas tank)? Any other possible root causes that would trigger those two codes? Also WHY if fuel/liquid (instead of vapor) goes into the purge line, the valve would be damaged? Can the purge valve be "repaired" (e.g. "dry" it) instead of "replacing" it? Thoughts? Thanks!
Replaced motor in my civic and accidentally hooked a coolant hose to this part in the video we have cleaned and cleared full tank and pump but I’m wondering if this part and the evap canister under the car can be cleaned out or do I 100% have to replace them?
Hey guys. So I changed the purge valve twice. Engine light still comes on. Changed the gas cap. The light went away for a month or two. Then it came back on. I changed the vapor canister yesterday and the light still comes on. The car is not showing any symptoms. Before the second change of the purge valve it had trouble starting up after refueling but that went away when I changed it the second time. Could really use some insight and help. The exact code is p0497. I'm about to drive to honda and purchase a pcv valve. 😢😥
I changed my vent valve solenoid on My 2009 honda civic exl and the light went for 20 minutes then came back on so now my mechanic wants to reset it with his scanner hoping it fixes it 😒
Will this fix code P0135-P0498 ? I cannot seem to figure how to erase that code in my 2007 Honda Civic lx? I’ve looked everywhere and this is the only video to explain best? Thanks for the info
+Paco Sanchez We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
with my respect Sr but you are doing extra work to remove that purge valve, I am a 40 year mexican mechanic and the way I remove that valve is by putting a big prayer bar on top of the valve cover and pushing lifting up that part than put a piece of wood between the valve cover and that part so you can put your left hand inside and with your finger touch the 8 mm bolt..also just remove the air filter cover so you can put your ratchet and remove the bolts .

Another great video! I followed your instructions and I had no problems. If this part is the fix for my P0497 code, how long will it take the check engine light to go out once the part is replaced? Do i need to drive it for a while? Thanks
To clear the code, disconnect the negative 12V terminal for 15min or more, then reattach. That will reset it. Otherwise, it could take up to 20 hot/cold engine cycles to clear the code on its own.
