Even manholes in the street make perfect bee hive locations. They always have that little hole just big enough to put the tool in to lift the heavy cover off. That hole is ideal bee entrance.
In Northridge, California, bee hives can be found in Gas Meter boxes in the ground. It is a perfect place for them, being well protected and only one bee size hole for access. When I worked for the Gas Company, we would have to call a bee keeper to come get them.
It is very common all over the states to have bees build their hives in meter boxes, it's like you said, it's very protected. Fortunately, most homeowners and companies want the bees to survive, not killed, and will contact beekeepers to have them removed, a real win/win for both bees and people. I wonder 🤔 what the Bees must be thinking 🧐 about while trying to get you to stop 🛑 what you're doing to their hive? But after being relocated and seeing their "new 🏠 home," they're probably feeling better with the "Extreme Makeover," that you provided back 🔙 at The Abbey!
The sad news is had I not removed and relocated these bees either an exterminator or the rain would have killed them. I'm happy to report they are doing great. Thanks for watching. God's peace Derrick. Mr. Ed
Wow! That queen is a beauty! I often wonder what it would be like to take a ride down the vacuum hose... Maybe we can talk Kamon into a new ride at HL'24? :-) Still getting snow up here! At least I don't need snowshoes as of late. Take care, God Bless! -Jeff and Diane

Easy to get to, often a royal pain all woven thru the pipes, wires or both. Done bunches of them. The covers are such a dream to scrape the comb off too...😅 Just wait til ya do one that is packed tight. Ugh.
As common as swarms moving into water meters is, I've only done 3 in 12 years. I guess in Louisiana, due to our high water table, even the bees know not to get below the ground. I bet it would be a mess to have it packed tight with comb. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

Good afternoon, take a look at the vacuum cleaner for bees, how it works and how you then get bees out of there. I want to buy a tie for myself, if you did, give me a link to the video, or a link to the vacuum cleaner.

So glad to have finally seen a Queen bee!!!! What is in that spray? Does it hurt them? Is that a special vacuum made just to get the bees? I’d be afraid that would hurt them. I love your videos. You guys are great. Keep doing what you’re doing. Long live the Queen Bee 🐝 ❤
The spray is called "Honey Bandit," and it is used to remove bees from honey supers when we harvest our honey. It is an all natural repellant, almond oil extract, and it emits very powerful vapors that bees, and humans, run from. If the bees come in contact with it is is detrimental which is why I spray it away from the bees and let the fumes do all the work. Thank you for your kind words and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace. Mr. Ed
The easy ones are few and far between, and that's why every bee wrangler is grateful when an easy one comes along. Thanks for watching. God's peace Linda. Mr. Ed

I love your hair Mr. Ed. Too cute! Enjoy a good sip of that nectar honey for me! Looks so good! Do bees know the difference or have a preference for their own honey/nectar vs honey, and comb from another hive that you give them to sustain them? Thanks for the new video! I so look forward to new ones.
As I get my hives outfitted and swarms installed, I keep noting that beekeepers can never have enough frames. I wonder what the ratio of frame to hive body is? I guess I have to be ready to buy more. Thanks for posting.
Even though I had 800 frames ready for our honey harvest, after counting all our hives I realized I was about 400 short so I needed more. Thank goodness Premier Bee Supply was able to come through for me in such a short time. Thank you Jesus! God's peace Father. Mr. Ed
Hope all is well fellas. Keep making the vids. Finally warming up in Indiana. Got a couple 80 degree days finally. Then it dropped back to 30 and snowed. And this weekend supposed to be in the 60s and 80s next week. I bet we get snow one more time. That was a big butted queen too
That is one of those ATT Fiber boxes. Interesting how the swarm took to it. I was wondering what was inside one of those boxes since those were installed in my neighborhood recently!
Because her butt was so big from laying all that brood, she could not fly, run, or even hide. Besides, she did not want to leave her daughters. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
It really is no big deal, and I have done that a few times, check out the video link below showing how I found her after I had vacuumed the bees. The main reason I like finding her is to know with all certainty that I have her and she is safe. Plus, it makes for good drama on the videos. I can’t believe wow the bees leave you alone. Somehow I bring out the worst in them. If that was me between my luck and that wind, I most likely would have a full suit on.
Love the sweater! I think 1/2 the removals in central Texas are all in water meters. But the rule of thumb is the lower the bees, the meaner they are. Glad yours were nice.
I know you have those mean ones over there brother. You really do make a great bee vac, and it goes on EVERY one of my removals. Keep up your good works. I'm going to be talking to the Texas Beekeeping Association Summer Clinic in Conroe on the17th of June. I know that's not near, but it would be great to see you. God's peace Tony. Mr. Ed
Who else scrolled down the comments to see if any one mentioned where the bees where found hahaha This is where the bees where found folks, nah sorry you will just have to watch the video to find out lol I thought for a minute they were gonna be in that Fedex van lol Is this the only video where the queen was found last? Is this is record lol and how easy was that haha You get these big huge swarms 10 times bigger then that one and you find the queen super fast, but this one haha Great work guys!
Assembled frames. What a way to go. Beautiful brood comb. The way that big queen was laying they definitely need a bigger space. Enjoyed the video. Take care and God bless.
They will need a 10 frame box in a month or less. I'm keeping these bees, I think this queen is special. Thank you for your blessings and for watching. God's peace Gary. Mr. Ed
So relaxing and entertaining it is to watch you treat the bees with gentle respect, making sure they have all they need to settle into their new home, and live a happy bee life!

They stay in the 5 frame nuc box till they fill all 5 frames with bees. Then, they are transferred into a 10 frame box to expand further. I do not know the exact genus or species name, and for that matter, I really don't care. The main aspect I am looking for in bees, weather they be feral or purchased, is can they survive. In my opinion, survivability, is the most important aspect a hive can have. And, if I were to buy bees, I would ONLY buy a nuc, not packaged bees. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. The few that do not go home with me will generally find another colony and make it their new home. Bees are very communal, and if they come into a new hive with food, they are readily accepted. Thanks for watching. God's peace Cheryl. Mr. Ed
Ha I enjoyed the video question if u do not mind I have some q cells and I have some hives that have q that have spotty brood I cant seem to find her If I dropped a cell in the hives do u think the new q will have a chance of taking over the hive is making cells to replace her but the are dry. thanks
It can't hurt to place the cells in the hives, but my guess is the old queen will not tolerate it. Still, I'd give it a try. God's peace Frances. Mr. Ed
...but not strong enough. It just goes to show how low the suction is on the bee vac which is why the bees are not harmed by the vacuum. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
No I can not, and for me, it really does not matter. What matters to me is if the bees will have the genetics that I'm looking for....survivability. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. Great cutout, I got one of those last year loved it very easy. How long does your battery last on your vac, I have Use a dewalt bat powered vac But the bats don't last very long, I need to git some 6amp hour bats, very costly. Great video thanks.
And let me add, we offer a larger battery with 40% more capacity, so 9+ hours run time. It's made for guys doing 3-4 removals a day. The standard battery still will do 2-3 removals without worry.
Really enjoyed watching this Jeff, This is how I started with bees its not uncommon to find bees in water meter box here in Ocala fl. I don't do it anymore, I use swarm traps much easier, I catch 15 to 20 swarms a year. Thanks for the memories

I love watching your bee work! I'd love to have bees, but I'm so allergic to their bites that it would be dangerous. But I do love them and try to supply flowers for them to feed on. Love seeing them in the garden.
I just love watching the bees stream into their new home.
I never tire of watching it either. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
You guys have all the fun😅
Thanks for taking us along
We really do have a lot of fun saving bees....and eating good food. Thanks for watching. God's peace Micheli.
Mr. Ed
Such a sweet little heart shaped hive. The bees are showing you their love for giving them a better home. God bless you
Jeff, you have a God-given gift. Beautiful golden comb.
Charlie doing some great camera work.
I honestly think this video was his best work ever, and to really appreciate it, it should bee seen on a big screen tv. Thanks for watching. God's peace Dawn.
Mr. Ed
honey juice for the algo, love this channel, best thing to watch on youtube
What a real compliment, thank you so much for it and for taking the time to follow along with my bee wrangling adventures. And if you did not know it, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Mr. Ed
Thank you
Wow super sweet bees. I want them!
Great video! Who’s buying lunch?
That would bee me. Annette, please contact me at oscelata@gmail.com
Thanks for watching. God's peace.

Actually, the sound the snow shoes made as you were walking on it was really cool, and one I NEVER get to experience for myself, but I know you are grateful not having to wear them. When's the next post? Thank you for your blessings and for watching. God's peace Jeff.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff I've been doing one post every Friday night at 1900. There are 4 posted out there. Working on #7 right now. Thank you! @windyridgeapiaries
We need GoPro to make a strap on camera for bees and then we could see the ride in real time! Not holding my breath on that though.
Awesome. Love your videos.
Thank you Kevin, and thanks so much for following along. Until the next one, God's peace brother.

YAY! That's awesome Jeff!
Good job guys! 46 minutes and NO bee jacket! Glad to see your feeling better Charlie, we missed ya last week! Have a good weekend guys :)
My wife and I have wanted to keep bees for years. Nice to meet you Jeff, I just found your videos!
Nice to meet you as well Josh. I strongly support your desire to become beekeepers, I always say the world need as many as it can get. Hello gents! Hey - does that ten minutes near the end count in your "less than an hour"? I mean, you wouldn't be cheating on the clock watch now would you? Always a pleasure to see you gents in action! Hugs from Florida!
No it does not count, Charlie was not there. Great to hear from you Julie, I hope all is well with you. God's peace.

Mr. ad. Sorry about the spelling on my last entry. I hope you can make it out your friend Harry Hill from Jacksonville, Florida then again, you are the best
I'm not worried about your spelling Harry, as long as you are watching that's good enough for me. Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to follow along with my bee wrangling adventures. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Mr. Ed
This Sir Charles Bronson is a bee lover!

We had the same, but in our sprinkler system box.
It is a very common place for swarms to set up shop. Thanks for watching. God's peace Shawna.

Oh yea! the taste of sweet nectar! God's peace brother.

😁 Winnie The Pooh and my bestest Pal Eeeyore approves!
Good afternoon, take a look at the vacuum cleaner for bees, how it works and how you then get bees out of there. I want to buy a tie for myself, if you did, give me a link to the video, or a link to the vacuum cleaner.
Amazing that you did that without PPE. But you are the bee expert.
These bees were so gentle it was not necessary, but very often, new swarms are that way. Like watching your videos Jeff. I just finished watching 628 rooster video. Would you want to get rid of some old frames with comb built out. Thank you Robbie Cyrus
I'm sorry to say Robbie I have sold all I can, I'm holding on to the others for myself. Thanks so much for asking and for watching. God's peace brother.

Mr. Ed
Playing catch up on back videos. They are addictive. Thank you Ed.
Just another great video as allwaysGod bless you and Charlie
I’ve done some of those in the past great work

Great video
Great job boys

I love your hair Mr. Ed. Too cute! Enjoy a good sip of that nectar honey for me! Looks so good! Do bees know the difference or have a preference for their own honey/nectar vs honey, and comb from another hive that you give them to sustain them? Thanks for the new video! I so look forward to new ones.
For bees, it matters not the "taste" of the honey, it's the nutrients they are interested in for their sustainability. God's peace Loren.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff thank you for teaching me about bees Mr. Ed. Amazing little God's creatures.
Mr. Ed
Wow look at them go to that box,
You got to love watching the bees march into a box. Thanks for watching. God's peace Betty.
Mr.
Wow, those sweet bees are so calm. Be nice to give them a new, safe home. You made my day again, always make me smile. Tfs
Awesome
I am surprised that the queen didn't escape through the grass!!
Because her butt was so big from laying all that brood, she could not fly, run, or even hide. Besides, she did not want to leave her daughters. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Bees: the most industrious ladies on Earth who'd make a home literally ANYWHERE.
Just a question..what happens if you vacuum the queen ?
It really is no big deal, and I have done that a few times, check out the video link below showing how I found her after I had vacuumed the bees. The main reason I like finding her is to know with all certainty that I have her and she is safe. Plus, it makes for good drama on the videos. @JeffHorchoff you to Mr ed. God bless you everyday
I can’t believe wow the bees leave you alone. Somehow I bring out the worst in them. If that was me between my luck and that wind, I most likely would have a full suit on.
These bees were so gentle I bet they would have even let you work them without a suit. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
How are these bees doing today. Hope they doing good.
They are still i a 5 frame nuc, but doing great! Thanks for watching. God's peace Russell.
Mr. Ed
Every wrangling job is an adventure, and catching the queen, or not, is always the highlight of the day. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Pretty bees
Pretty comb
And super gentle, these girls are going to be a welcome addition to our bees at the abbey. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Angela.
Mr. Ed
I watch all of them I may not commit but I do hit the like button
How long do you keep them in the box? And do you know what breed of bee they are? For newbee people, what's the best bees to start with?
By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Glon.
Mr. Ed
Always a pleasure watching your videos. Another Epic wrangle. ❤️🕊🙏🏻💯🥳
🐞At the end all the bees seem to be standing on their tippy toes before they go into the box. Why? 🐞
They are spreading their bee pheromone in the air to let all the bees know this is the new home. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Pearl.
Mr. Ed
That was an easy one! Loved how the second framed up comb looked like two puppies on the frame lol.
Like a box of chocolates you never know what your gonna get.
There's whipped honey, there's creamed honey, there's infused honey, there's orange blossom honey, there's tupelo honey,..... Thanks for watching. God's peace Jerry.
Mr. Ed
Bees are starting to be more here in Washington state. I live in North Bend Washington.
Love your long hair mr ed
What happens to the ones that fly off do you manage to get them back to their colony or do they end up dying x
The few that do not go home with me will generally find another colony and make it their new home. Bees are very communal, and if they come into a new hive with food, they are readily accepted. Thanks for watching. God's peace Cheryl.
Mr. Ed
Thank you, Mr. Ed. Your videos are balsam for the soul!
Watched the queen get sucked at at about the 6:01 mark, does she survive or do you have to requeen with what is left?
Actually, the queen was caged at 20:48 and then released 3 days later in a nuc box. Thanks for watching. God's peace Regina.
Mr. Ed
That was a quicky!!
Just the way Good Time Charlie likes them. Thanks for watching. God's peace James.
Mr. Ed
Thanks. How do you like that yellow vac you were using? I made me one last year kind of like a Colorado bee vac. Do you ever use your Robo vac??
I did three removals last week! One was at a Motel 6 ha ha
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff Ha thanks for answering my question God Bless
Did I miss the wedding announcement? Jeff is wearing a wedding ring
We were married on Sept. 13 of last year, hot dog! Thanks for watching. God's peace.

Those bees have very strong grip. It seems hard to suck them up.
...but not strong enough. It just goes to show how low the suction is on the bee vac which is why the bees are not harmed by the vacuum. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Absolutely remarkable how relaxed and chilled those bees were. Great job on the rescue!
I used a post to send this to you I have I question about my hives it is a thick hive can I put it on a concrete slab with out hurting my bees
Mister ed. when you do bee removal can you tell what breed can you tell the difference just captureing them
No I can not, and for me, it really does not matter. What matters to me is if the bees will have the genetics that I'm looking for....survivability. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Rex.

Great cutout, I got one of those last year loved it very easy. How long does your battery last on your vac, I have Use a dewalt bat powered vac But the bats don't last very long, I need to git some 6amp hour bats, very costly. Great video thanks.
The battery lasts for over 6 hours. The Everything Bee Vac is awesome. Thanks for watching. God's peace Dennis.
Mr. Ed
I know in Florida bees in water meters is a very common thing, but here in Southeast La, I've only done 3 of them in 12 years. Glad to bring back some good memories for you, and thanks for watching. God's peace William,
