I appreciate that you didn't like it. I'm not going to go too down the rabbit hole other then to say that the majority of fan excitement and audiences loved it. The mistakes that were made are small in compassion to what was delivered. As far as everyone surviving.. I think it was a well played bet because the audience absolutely needs to be emotionally invested enough in a core group to move on from legacy, Sidney, and that is exactly what happened. I think the film did what is incredibly hard to do and it invigorated a fresh story with new characters into a franchise that doesn't necessarily need its original final girl. They deserve the props.. this movie is generating insane buzz and very favorable audience reaction.. it's on its way to having the franchise's best box office. That doesn't sound like something that should end to me lol.

@Nigel Redux I am what I would consider a big part of the fanbase and I did not love Scream 5. I felt Scream 5 had a lot of problems and most of the issues I had with it were resolved in Scream 6.

The buzz around the movie is amazing and that doesn't happen with a film that failed to grab its audience. I heard your points though.
The buzz is there because it came quickly after 5, probably got good marketing, and is capturing this younger, dumber audience. If you enjoyed it, then good for you. For a franchise that's trying to move on from "legacy characters", they sure love bringing them back and mentioning the older movies quite a lot.

They had the chance to be original but decided to remake Scream 2. College, film school, and a parent out for revenge because their murderous child was murdered. They had a chance to extend the opening to the middle of the second act, creating a twist once the murderers get murdered. Setting up a new killer. But with the way it ended nothing could save this flimsy story. For me the characters were forgettable all around.
Too fast and too many cuts, that's the same problem 5 had. TBH Amber and Richie's kills were way more brutal imo these were the worst kills I don't see what's so special about them. They barely utilized new York and Kirby/ Gale were tossed to the side.
Liked the opening,directing and Sam. Writing was terrible. Kirby terrible FBI Agent. Along,with the rest of the FBI,cops,and media. No one looked and could find Ritchie's family? Incompetent,far fetched and illogical. No one died that we cared about. Chad a cyborg? Brutal Ghostfaces who are useless and die easily at the end. Ethan stupidly saves Mindy. Gale character development trashed,and her dumb decisions when attacked. Ghostfaces acting appalling in 3rd act. A disappointment.
Loved 4. It aged well imo. 5 is entertaining enough. 6 had its moments but flew off the rails the last 20 minutes or so. A certain ghostface actor’s overracting was annoying as hell. And Kirby who was so great in Scream4 seemed like a totally different character here.

I'm so mixed about this movie because there were some things that I really loved( like the opening and better writing for Sam's character) and things that I didn't love ( like the overuse of meta references in life-threatening moments and unnecessary plot armor). Overall, it gave me what I wanted and more as a horror movie, but as a Scream movie, it had the potential to be so much better.

Same, can't stand when people claim these are "better than the original" like in what universe could that be true? Let's not kid ourselves. I honestly think it's mainly young teens hyping up these movies because there are a lot of fan service moments, modern lingo, and ability to form parasocial relationships with the celebrity cast.
I wish they did more with the true crime angle and the conspiracy that Sam was the real killer while they saw Richie as a victim. I thought the reveal would be all those crazy Redditors planning an attack on Sam to avenge their own hero or something, the secret family revenge thing was boring. And literally no point/commentary is made about anything as a theme, even the reveal is a rehash of basic revenge. And Sam being inspired by Billy Loomis is just bizarre, her being all stabby with the killers seems like it's edgy for the sake of making her look cool and honestly me and my boyfriend were laughing so much because the stabbing looked so damn fake in that one scene with the cop.
I actually enjoyed the movie just some mistakes that they made with this one. I feel as though they could’ve killed off chad bc he got stabbed to the point of no return. Also the killers reveal wasn’t my favorite because they basically tell us that Ethan is the killer. A lot of potiental in some of the lead up to the reveal. Gale didn’t have so much screen time as well, But besides that I enjoyed the movie.

Hate Mindy, hated the villain reveal and hated that they teased a way cooler angle of knowing who the killer is all through the film and seeing a movie from their angle and quickly took the rug from under. People are inhuman to the point of comedy. Getting stabved in the chest is something you can walk away.

Complete agree: This movie was a big, huge, steaming garbage fire of a film. It really was pathetically done. I get it, the scream films are supposed to be corny and silly on a certain level. But they at least have to be thrilling and have some kind of point. Talking about the plot points, breaking the fourth wall and having the plot TOLD TO YOU BEFORE IT HAPPENS is not a technique, it is just mind-numbingly stupid. I don't blame the cast, who could possibly say these lines or act through these set pieces and not look hokey or moronic. It was probably in my top five worst films I have ever seen in my life. It seemed to me that Kirby and Gale were just kind of forced in this one so I didn't care about them as much as the new characters. Part 4 isn’t a proper representation of a remake, because it revolves around the same cast and thus defiles the trilogy dynamic. Part 5 has a boner for Rian Johnson, even giving Dewey the complete Luke Skywalker treatment. They ruined his character before killing him. The idea of going after toxic fandom while seemingly DEFENDING Hollywood’s most obnoxious modern tropes actually makes it more of an anti-Scream movie. Scream 6 I actually love, but not for the reasons you’d think. The first two thirds of the movie are halfway decent, then the final act is so bad it’s good. Seriously, it gets so outlandishly stupid I can’t help but laugh. I was frustrated yesterday, but this is where I’ve settled two days later: this movie is GOLD. Agree 100% though, they need to let this franchise die.

If she did survive she should be in the hospital. Even though I went NOO when chad was killed, he should have died. Billy and Stu's motivation never made sense for anything beyond Scream 2. Killing Maureen Prescott.. okay. Mom takes revenge over son's death? It happens. Sydney's brother is the mastermind? Uhhh..No. There's not enough story for 6 movies. Tha's why these movies are all the same. Killers are always white. Stabbing only kills when the script calls for it. It was never intended to have sequels.
We're fans and we're going to keep watching Scream movies, but yes, it was ridiculous how they all survived their injuries. Although we liked him, Dewey go stabbed in 1 and 2 and survived until 5.
It was bad with the legacy characters at times too, but now with this new crop of characters it has reached absurdity levels with all of the core characters getting stabbed in each movie and basically just walking it off at the end like it never really happened.
It has gotten so much worse now though. Dewey at least had a messed up arm and a limp. These characters brush off fatal wounds like they aren't even human.

Definitely agree with the conspiracy point. That was such an interesting concept and it was dropped really early on.
