We Install MetalCloak's JL Undercloak Armor System on our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JLU Rubicon

  • HOLY MOLY, we finally did it!
After doing a ton of research, it was sort of a no brainer to Kevin and I that MetalCloak was our top choice for underbelly skids! Their UnderCloak Armor System marked off all of the boxes, especially in the affordability and build quality categories!
And ever since we made our decision a couple of weeks ago, we've been planning out this Rubicon trip to work in tandem with a visit to MetalCloak's headquarters (since it's only a hop, skip, and a jump from the trail)!
Incredibly enough, not only was MetalCloak willing to let us hijack one of their shop bays to knock out the install, but they also lent us a helping hand (Ummm, can we add Awesome Customer Service to the checklist?!)
These skids were an incredibly quick and easy install (even if we hadn't had so much help) and Kevin and I are stoked to test them out offroad! But don't get too excited just yet, because we've got even more awesomeness coming!
I hope you all enjoy the video, and stay tuned!!
And, of course, don’t forget to follow my Instagram as well for more rad car stuff and Jeep fun!

Great choice by going with Metalcloak for protection. I have their Game Changer short arm lift and armor system in my JK. Their customer service is TOP NOTCH! I've had to replace some items that got bent/ damaged or needed to be upgraded. I've contacted them and Metalcloak assisted me on every step of my repairs when I needed them. You will not regret it

Amazing and makes the JL underneath look so much better than stock, not to forget the protection it now offers the JL.

I plan on doing the armor on my JLU when they get done building it , you guys are going to enjoy the MetalCloak lift.
I have put the Game changer lift on my last 2 JKs, its trouble free and quiet on the trail and rides like stock.
You guys picked a great company to go with!! The Best in my opinion. Have fun,, Love the Videos

I can understand other model Jeeps not having skids but the Rubicon should really have this as a factory option. It seems unrealistic to offer a jeep with insane out of the box capability and not expect people to hit the belly and drag the rear bumper.

Having kept up with your wheeling vids, I was pretty amazed at how NOT completely destroyed the stock skids were. You guys laid out the testing process for what those stock skids can do for us flat landers. Just don’t forget to take into account the weight you removed with stock stuff vs. the upgrades, probably will be even more pleasantly surprised at how little the added weight will actually be, well worth the peace of mind the Metalcloak skids give. NOW GO BEAT THE NEW STUFF UP!

Nice up grades. I was watching a video where Roman and Tommy from TFL went to the Rubicon trail and drove new JL Rubicon’s with Jeep. Tommy and Roman had video of the skid plates getting damaged where they bolt to the frame just like yours. Remember what a Jeep engineer told Roman of TFL.

biz4two biz4 The diff skid in the rear is less for protection, since we have Motobilt diff covers, and more to prevent us from getting hung up on rocks (which isn’t much of an issue on the front end due to its orientation). 😊😊

  • @MrJamesLuz
    @MrJamesLuz 6 лет назад +1

I’m a huge believer in getting skid plates and armor before a lift. Learn to drive it stock and get protection. It’s not “bling” like a lift and big tires, but you get a better sense of how it drives and don’t do damage...as you’ve shown.

There is one thing that you will need to take care around and in some situations avoid - MUD! Fill up that belly pan with mud and it’s a MOFO to get out... I’m otherwise enviously considering one for my JK. (FYI mud is a great way to ruin tires as I have found out on a few occasions having it caked on the inside of the rims and a few freeway miles to a car wash...)
I’m sure you’re already done with the Rubicon trip - but will get great use of the plates there!

Finally bought and installed the armor from MetalCloak. Question. Did you notice a noise that seems to be a low hum or vibration that resulted after you installed? It is faint but seems like it’s there for my JLUR. I bought the MetalCloak on your advice and look forward to taking it out but not sure if that noise is an install issue or if a vibration that results from having that much metal under there.
