Yes that is the truth...I read once that 75% of pick ups sold are just daily drivers with owners not really needing a P/U truck for anything other than status. That is why trucks these days are loaded to the gills with creature comforts that guys and girls that need a truck for a truck couldn't care less about, and would rather be able to buy a truck without to save mucho $$$. Most of the people that buy trucks use them as cars so they want all the enemities, car like ride, muscle car performance, sports car handling, luxury interior, etc. thus the way too high prices. I remember when people that bought trucks wanted and needed a truck and all the brands were half the price of a car. My driveshaft on my 2015 Sierra shook very much at higher speeds. I wasn't the only one. Got rid if it. Year and a half of ownership and in the dealer for 6 months during that time. Never again.
It’s interesting that pickups took the place of the big American sedans of my youth. So think RAM was smart to focus on interiors and a non leaf spring rear suspension for a better unladen ride.
Funny. Wrong, but funny. My 2014 F150 went 160,000 miles without so much as a check engine light. My 2018 F150 has gone 83,000 (so far) without one issue.
Best Truck I have ever owned. 2003 Tundra and I keep saying when it breaks down I'll get a new truck. It doesn't seem to be happening. Close to 300K on a 6 cylinder automatic 4x4 and the biggest thing I had to deal with was replacing a timing belt 3 years ago. It still has all its original parts, including water pump and alternator. But if I was to buy a new truck, I would look at a Ram. They are just very innovative and classy looking. The new Tundras are built great but look very dated and cheap.
I was just going to say...... The Cummins is 100% the reason for: the popularity of diesel trucks with younger buyers, the popularity of the Ram, and personally I think the Ram is also the best looking truck atm.
Since 2000 ram has made the best trucks you can’t change my mind I have a 08 dodge ram 2500 4 x 4 make a cab with a 5.7 L hemi and I still can’t say enough good things about it. God bless y’all praying for everyone and the new Rams have easily the best interiors out of any truck with their 12 inch display as well as their plush leather everywhere.
My father logged over 300k miles on a 89’ , 95’, and 00’ Dodge Dakota’s. All had the 3.9, his Colorado needed an engine at 180k miles. Scotty is knowledgeable, but ignorant when it comes to Ram trucks.
probably why all their other vehicles like their Jeeps always break down lol seems like the only thing that they have that doesn't consistently break down
Lol, seems so obvious..., now! They really did lead the way towards “family” trucks. In my opinion, RAM does make some of the classiest looking vehicles on the road today. I now a legit billionaire that likes to drive one of his 1500 “service” vehicles for day to day occasions. Also, RAM covers the truer sense of the work truck ideology with their HDs.
20 years ago pickup trucks were used... as pickup trucks! I mean, actual hauling, hard working, towing... Nowadays, people are rather using them as daily vehicles to carry more "shopping mall bags" than anything
1500 series are commonly used for that like you've said 2500 series are for work and actual hauling and the 3500 ones are like 2500s but more bad ass and stronger

John Salcido How much would you say you’ve spent on it, did you purchase it new or used (if used @ what km/miles), and what year? I don’t own a truck, I’m not asking in defense of Ram. Just curious!
The GD junkiest truck ever. Crash rating sucks. Transmission and wiring sucks. Premature rust. Soft touch interior is plush when new and falls apart when aged. Some things are better in new than old but the durability part of the RAM part is behind. But...... Cummins is a beast.
Technical Items Agreed. Got a Ram 5500 and the Cummins is a beast but what’s the point if everything else in the truck is junk. Computer/sensors, suspension, transmission, steering, radiator, you name it! And the truck is extremely taken care of and not that old. For comparison I got 4 older Ford Trucks that I have tortured in the fields for years and still going strong. What I spend on my Ram a year of repairing it is what I’ve spent on all my other Ford trucks combined in the past few years..........
John Salcido yes! It’s a huge risk to buy a new 80k truck just to get a Cummins and an experiential truck attached to it! It might be a different story if you have a friend who owns and old dodge and you observed his ownership from a distance and saw all the issues and repairs he made and bought one for $4500(with a manual trans). Then you can just say to yourself, “meh...the dash is cracked in half, ac isn’t cold, body rusted out....but he has replaced the driveline and cooling system recently so I will buy it to tow my old dirt track car on weekends”.
I liked the 2015-2018 Silverados. I like some of the Ford and Ram trucks with certain trim packages. But I chose the 2019 Silverado because in my opinion it is a great looking truck inside and out. It is by far the best truck I have ever owned and I have only ever had trucks.
I’m going to laugh til I cry again when gas prices go up again and people start scrambling to ditch their pickups and SUVs again for smaller cars again!
Ram selling the outgoing and redesigned model at the same time is a ridiculously smart move. It's something that FCA has done with the Caravan/Voyager/Town&Country/Pacifica that has helped them too.
And the old and new compass and old and new grand Cherokee though they both only lasted a year. And I’m guessing the voyager too as I dont see new ones after 2021. The rams are still being made and the grand caravan was JUST discontinued. Those lasted a very long time.
I’ve owned all 3 1/2 ton models. GM’s transfer cases fail on all 3 gm I owned around 100k. Ford rear end failed at 42,000 miles and their 36k warranty wouldn’t cover it, and because of that Ford won’t get my business. Had some bad luck with older dodge trans in company vehicles. Bought my first Ram in 2012 and it has been excellent. I’d buy another Ram.
The expense in manufacturing really isn't from raw materials. That's a bit more negligible. It's in the design, engineering, and manufacturing. Overall it's much cheaper to produce a pickup than a car. The design is simpler, the manufacturing is simpler, and the scale negates all the engineering and machining costs. The price of a pickup is more about demand than anything else.
@Kevin Smith . . . I recall back in the 1980s that security outfits utilized mini-pickup trucks as their patrol vehicles because they were lower priced than the compact sedans of the same model years.
My 2003 RAM is going on 18 years young in September. It is a 2500 Heavy Duty pickup truck with a Cummins diesel engine. It has over 200,000 miles on it and it runs like a top. The absolute best vehicle I have ever owned next to my Chevrolet Suburban.
I have a 2005 ram 1500 that I've owned sense 2008 and never had any problems with it. I change the oil and do the brakes, other than that no issues. It's been a great 4x4
yeah, even the denali line looks out of date. Not sure if it's been unveiled yet but I heard a while back they were supposed to be revamping the interior specifically to combat RAM; only time will tell!
RobGod yeah but IMO I have this conspiracy that GM is still taking design cues from Fords 11th Gen F-150 04-08.. interior door handles etc.👀🤷♂️ the list is so long..it’s slowly been downfall since the GMT-900(which was like a reskin, those GM bean counters where half-assing back then what Ford did back in 04), they really need to go back to the drawing board though. RAM is using their resources well like Ford when they had their Premiere Automotive Group. If RAM offers a SUV it will be end-game for GM..The Sierra is nice but I was expecting more from that interior and the previous Gen too which taillights awfully look like the 04-08 F-150.. but that crap started with the GMT-900 platform. I really do miss the GMT-400-800 design language, yes it was more of a “in-house” approach but it was distinctive.. RAM has borrowed in the past but those Fisher Price like interiors where no mans land, but they’ve learned their lesson. RAM & Ford seem to be playing a game of “Whatever you can do I can do better” I’m a Ford a guy and become little nervous when RAM is mentioned, was not feeling the headlights on the 2015 & up model F-150s but it was original where the K2XX Sierra seemed to literally look for 04-14 F-150 inspiration. At that time it was good to see GM do something descent but it was completely done before a decade earlier.. we’ll just have to wait to see what GM does with the next gen Burb, Yukon & Lade interiors order to see the possible cues the current gen trucks will get when the interiors are revised 🤷♂️ but from the looks of the spy interiors of the next gen GM SUVs RAM & Ford shouldn’t be worried..
Gen3HemiBuilder 1964 yeah it’s sorta been embarrassing for a while though, it’s interesting when you look at the Mark LT when only produced from 05-08 in the US, it did a better job at distinguishing itself from its F-150 counterpart than the Denali has in its entire production run, the exterior of the current Sierra is sharp but the interior is just what let’s me down, RAM has literally stepped up their game forcing Ford to really put their money where their mouth is for this next generation of F-150, what I do like about this current Gen Sierra is that it does look less F-150ish and original though. I don’t even know where to begin on the Silverado. I Hope the RAM does your fleet good !
I agree, and I also would never buy a Ford truck! But, to each its own, nice that we all have a good selection. As for me, I'll stick to my 33 year Toyota I paid 9 grand and still runs...
When I was in the USAF in the late 1980s, I would drive custom built 4 door Dodge Power Wagons up and down the flight line. I’ve been a Dodge fan ever since. Now, if I can just find me an old USAF Dodge Power Wagon. Those were some utilitarian trucks.
The new Ram trucks are incredible all around and they really have a finger on the pulse of what truck enthusiasts want. With utility with luxury, style and customization
So, we're just gonna NOT mention Walker Texas Ranger like he's a nobody? That man was a damn Rambassador! This just will not do. Where's the WTR Edition Ram?
I was shopping for a pick up truck a year ago and thought I wanted a Ford F150. Then I actually got to drive one. It was a nice truck but for the price he didn’t have a lot going for it. Then I drove a RAM at the same price point. It was better equipped, had a normally aspirated V6 which I like. It also came with a trailer hitch and wiring watch the Ford did not. The styling, those subjective was better and it uses a knob instead of a shifter. Even the 2021 Fords don’t have this at the price point the RAM is and the styling is s bit dowdy at that. Been very pleased with it so far.
I’ve owned 4 Ram trucks (2004, 2014, 2017 & 2019). I love the exterior looks and the new interior is awesome. I get a lot of compliments on my 2019 1500. I had 160,000 miles on my 2004 when sold and not one major issue with that truck.
Bought my first truck last November. A 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie. I am a tech nerd so the 12 inch screen sold me instantly. Love the interior and I love my truck.
XD That TRX tho, never has there been so much hype for a truck. And now Ford is coming out with something more powerful, if it wasn't for Ram, Ford wouldn't be where they are today.
@@katog169 What does this have to do with what I said, and what I meant was if it wasn't for Ram constantly coming out with hyped up vehicles with more power than Ford wouldn't either, without that competition Ford would be boring af
Coming from a Mercedes ML, I loved the tech in the 2015 1500 Laramie Ecodiesel. With lower ownership costs, basically the same tech as the Benz, and more utility, it was an easy decision. Also, I bought the lifetime warranty, so I’ll probably be driving this thing for at least another fifteen years.
Scott I think I want an F150 as my next truck. Aiming for a regular cab 4x4 with the least amount of options. The Rams seem to be nothing but trouble mechanically, I have a GMC and I’ll never go down that road again. The GMs rust so fast and start falling apart on top of electrical problems they were caught covering up that caused serious injuries and deaths. The Fords seem to hold up the best from what I’ve seen.

I sell rams for a living, I have a fleet of used denali trucks. Yes the interior on a Denali is embarrassing
Interior comes down to taste. Never been in a quieter truck than a Denali. Always loved GM interiors. Minus the squeaky 90's early 2k interiors

Maybe they’d sell more if they invested in reliability. The problem with all this tech is it’s very expensive and you can’t get it without.
Creature comforts are ruining the industry. The general public sucks.
I agree Ford has many problems with reliability in the tech on their trucks ask anyone who owns one...
@@Coyote-wm5op What year is your GMC?
@@Coyote-wm5op I have a '07 regular cab Ranger, bare bones......Love it. Keep your truck undercoated with Fluid Film, rust will be a thing of the past.
I'm worried about RAM too, they have a dealership in my city that says Hyundai on it
Ram is made by Fiat, Hyundai’s are decent cars compared to Fiat junk.
Jay Moar call me when you need a tow I’ll come pick you up when I get a 2008 Ram 1500
@@go_dawgs_8290 No Offence, but you sound like the YOU ARE DISREPECTING A FUTURE OFFICER type of kid lol
Ill listen to scotty and stay away from the rams.
@@GROMEXCR22 that guys a biased nut job
90% of comments mention Scotty , got love his following , I can just picture his arms going crazy while watching this video.. 😆
I do like his videos, but he kind of sounds as biased sometimes as Don Lemon
Dodge HQ: "We just released a new ad for the RAM"
Scotty: *waving arms shouting*
DODGE HQ: "We need to rethink our quality program"
I drive an 02 ram 1500 with 232.5k miles and it’s still running strong. I would definitely get another one
