Scott, I love your humility, you praise other bass players and you keep yourself out.let me however tell you that you are really a good bass player yourself. I'm a guitar player who loves bass as well and I love your clean bass touch!
Hey scott! This is the best kind of lesson that you can do. I'm a Brazilian bassist and i'm ever looking for thet secret of bass in gospel stiles. This is a amazing jam. So, thanks for show me the way. God bless you!
I think Scott had the right and only word you can describe that lick with is "WHAT?!" Completely insane! Andrew Gouche' is like my Idol in bass playing. Hopefully I can get somewhat close to playing that lick at that speed in about 5 years or so! lol
Wow... that lick is a monster to nail at speed. It is for me at least :) but I’m getting there. Just learning it gave me a number of ideas to explore as well. That’s why I love these videos. They inspire me to try things I hadn’t tried before and I really appreciate that.
What his actually impressing isn't how fast Andrew Gouche can go with his left hand, but how much he can go fast & have CONTROL with his right hand. You can go has fast as he could but only very talented bass player could have as much control as he has.
Conor Keane based on her statement I just assumed she meant she only plays that. The way she said it seemed to imply that it was something to be impressed by.
Mr. Devine, if you could only own one four-string bass, would it be: A Fender Custom Shop bass, a Fender Masterbuilt bass, a Moollon bass, an Olinto bass, or another brand? Also, how low do you set your string action: high, medium, or as low as possible with some fret buzz?
Thanks! This is a perfect example of what I have always said about fast licks. All fast licks are just something fairly simple played very quickly. It's that idea that has aided me in figuring out licks by Geddy, Flea, Jaco and so many others. Yet ther is still one set of solo fills that have evaded me all these years... the fills in 'YYZ' from Rush Moving Pictures. I can play all the verses and chorus parts but damn! Those solo runs still loose me. I tried slowimg it down with my Tascam machine but it broke! Any chance of getting a video on this one? Been trying since high school and that dog still won't hunt!
There's a reasonable version in rocksmith 2014 (fan DLC on customsforge.com) - the riff repeater in rocksmith is a great tool for learning parts like this
I like to find the Rush isolated bass videos and slow them down in Reaper, my DAW of choice. Also, it may help to first play as light as possible and then play harder once you get it down.
If u guys are having trouble moving around the neck, just look at his wrist if ur first starting the bass, try to learn with a dropped wrist it lets u move much faster and easier try not to learn off the habit of playing with a tight hand around the neck
Couldn't hear the bass that well. Music was louder than the bass. Same goes for you Scott. Your voice is louder than your bass. I still got it though. Excellent as always. Please try to work the audio , Thanks. LOL
I played a MLK festival on the same bill as Andrew recently and he told me to turn all the knobs on my active bass up (treble and bass knobs) and "gate" the rest of the tone from the amp... he said its the real sound of the bass. I guess thats how he does it... very micro manager for his band I observed during their rehearsal
Hi @Scott. Is there a possibility you could tell me the names of the songs Andrew Gouche played to. I will love to have the names. Thanks for the incredible video/tutorial.
Scott, I love your humility, you praise other bass players and you keep yourself out.let me however tell you that you are really a good bass player yourself. I'm a guitar player who loves bass as well and I love your clean bass touch!
This guy is just Ridiculously amazing what a bass player.
It's great to take these long licks apart and use pieces of them to make licks of my own.
Something tells me his favorite colour is red...
or possibly even reddish pink.
That's clearly Bordeaux or Vivid Burgundy xD
Wonder if that's a stained body, or it's all purpleheart or bloodwood?
Jonathan Maclean this bass is so gorgeous
It’s cause he’s a blood
Andrew Gouche is that guy
4:18 - Scott's expression! Great video... Gouche is a monster player!
You should’ve added that “WHAAAAT??” bass run into the lesson too!! It was fire! Sounded like a Sharay Reed kinda bass lick
Love the way Andrew lives Music. Just look at his face 😊
Hey scott! This is the best kind of lesson that you can do. I'm a Brazilian bassist and i'm ever looking for thet secret of bass in gospel stiles. This is a amazing jam. So, thanks for show me the way. God bless you!
Here is the lick that I know:
D E F G E C D
Mervert Pervert what lick is that
Floofy Flareon, Its "the lick" from adam neely.
Mat Coddy ah that would make sense
Its not from Adam Neely lol
Its a lick used before Neely was even born, how can it be HIS lick?
Thanks !
For taking the fear away of trying to "play" the impossible "lines" and for explanation it in an easily way 🤝
Whenever i see things like this, it always gives me more motivation to get better.
I think Scott had the right and only word you can describe that lick with is "WHAT?!" Completely insane! Andrew Gouche' is like my Idol in bass playing. Hopefully I can get somewhat close to playing that lick at that speed in about 5 years or so! lol
Andrew's the man. Great to see the both of you on this video.
That bass is gorgeous!!!!
Richard Bona und dieser Mensch... ich stelle meinen Bass in die "Altkleidersammlung"!
Gouche almost never looks at the neck. Pretty amazing.
This video actually gave me a new energy for playing bass, that i was starving for. Thank you
woah he's good!
I haven't gone to church in years, but I love hearing "praise bass".
-"Hi! I'm Andrew and I'm obsessed with stuff that is red!"
-"Hi, Andrew!"
Scott's Bass Lessons Thanks for the lesson, Scott. Very concise and translated well enough for even me to understand....
this grey bass is so beautiful.
Wow... that lick is a monster to nail at speed. It is for me at least :) but I’m getting there. Just learning it gave me a number of ideas to explore as well. That’s why I love these videos. They inspire me to try things I hadn’t tried before and I really appreciate that.
What a fun riff!! Thank you, Scott!!
Can't wait to work it out! Cheers Scott!
Somewhere Paul Bunyan is lying shirtless and unconscious.
I was surprised to pick this up very easily since it its right in my style of playing.
Thanks Scott!!!
Andrewww! Killer player, and seems like a totally rad guy!
Awesome!! That is what bass is for me!! Great stuff Scott!!
Love Nicks face at the start of this in the car haha
Tone for daaaaays man!
This is a super cool lick. Seeing as I can't play bass, going to transpose this onto guitar, and give it a bash
0:52 the camera guy is such funny guy !
Incredible lick!

his left hand is mesmerizing
Wholllyyyyy moolyyyyy i love this channel
Amazing! Tanx for this video!
God bless you!
Oh my goodness I so want to hang out and shoot some stuff with you guys
Very cool. Excellent riff to warm up on.
The guy is a beast-FFS-He's havin' a good time!
That groove at 2:43 tho! Ahhh, so nice! Anyone know what tune that is?
Right!?!?! Please someone chime in and help out!
What about Dr.Abraham Laboriel ?
holy crap --- the Gospel stuff is MAD good... (I play melodic progmetal, and damn, I can appreciate this.)
Naiya Devine Cominos what's melodic prog metal and why is that the only thing you play
Maybe she is a bassist who plays melodies in a progressive metal band? =P
Conor Keane based on her statement I just assumed she meant she only plays that. The way she said it seemed to imply that it was something to be impressed by.
Ashley Sean okay I understand, no hard feelings =)
Naiya Devine Cominos I want someone to turn this guy on to descravity. Or inferi.
Believe me! I will play that lick a Church!!!! For suuuuuuure 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😂
This is a great breakdown and a groovy riff :D Thanks Scott =)
The lick itself it's not difficult, but that sheer speed...
You are a great teacher.
This is like a lesson on how to shred for jazz bassists :P

That's a sweet tone of red!!!!

phatbassanchor the ability to adjust YT videos playback stopped has helped a lot as well

Here's a link to the tab for YYZ on bass (not perfect, but it's a start) mega.nz/#!yDwCxKJT!K0S_co8r1IkJNpSbJluFauS-8Riht5pKMGbtqpqntZo
phatbassanchor true, but tasteful....
Thanks for breaking this down.
Andrew Gouche !!! Bad Dude !!!
On Prince 1999 Andrew is playing an F at the G position so his E string is really tuned down a whole step to D.
see how powerful Gospel is
Scott, thanks a lot.
😂😂alot of grooving going on here, direct and vicarious as well.
What’s the song at 3.20? That’s a rad groove/progression
wow... crazy speed lick ! thanks a lot bro
Fun lick!
What is that smooth jam at 2:42?
What is the song he's playing at 3:34? Sounds like 1999 by Prince, but not sure :s
Hey great video and I have a question what kind of gloves are you using for bass
Such a great channel.
0:52
Is that what I think it is? That thing on the cam
If u guys are having trouble moving around the neck, just look at his wrist if ur first starting the bass, try to learn with a dropped wrist it lets u move much faster and easier try not to learn off the habit of playing with a tight hand around the neck
Amazing, lol - man, thanks for sharing this, I love this stuff.
Couldn't hear the bass that well. Music was louder than the bass. Same goes for you Scott. Your voice is louder than your bass. I still got it though. Excellent as always. Please try to work the audio , Thanks. LOL
I love your vids man especially that you do Christian music awesome
I NEED TO KNOW WHAT SONG THAT IS FROM
Is there anywhere to buy a SBL strap? I’ve wanted one for like a year now and can’t seem to find it anywhere??
it took me 5 minutes of watching this, 10 minutes of sweat and practice but i got the riff down
I played a MLK festival on the same bill as Andrew recently and he told me to turn all the knobs on my active bass up (treble and bass knobs) and "gate" the rest of the tone from the amp... he said its the real sound of the bass. Is Brian Bromberg interview worthy?
Looks like Andrew was using a Harley Benton bz-6000
OMG ! Amazing !
Thanks king
He goes from looking like a sleeping baby in a bumpy car ride to a crying baby when he plays his bass.
Anyone know the song Andrew is playing at 2:40-2:50???
Andrew didn’t use the floating thumb technique, muted the top string only. Beast of a bass that 6 string though.
Michael John Faulkner I don’t float and I play a 6.
awesome, thanks for sharing this, you are awesome
Awesome
What is the song of the lick?
is AG drop tuned a whole tone? does his signature MTD have Bartolinis? great energy guys. some break- neck tempos there. Yow! ♫
Hi @Scott. Is there a possibility you could tell me the names of the songs Andrew Gouche played to. I will love to have the names. Thanks for the incredible video/tutorial.
always in my mind xdd
The main song in there is Chaka Khan's I Feel For You, originally by Prince
meet up with wojtek pilichowski
in which song is this lick used?
Joakim o.l scrolling through the comments trying to find the answer also lol
MTD!!!!! Repping Michael Tobias and his handcrafted basses
That’s because Mike T is a tremendous cat and his handmade custom basses are the best things going.
BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!
great content man
Do the in impossible baseline challenge please
You made my day :) all thumbs up
Can anyone name the first track he's playing?
Wow! Very impressing :-O
Can anyone tell me what beautiful red Bass this is?
What is the song that this lick is from??
What is the 'device' at the nut? Some kind of mute?
Damn, riff!
