I have a save with a she-wolf that WILL start a pack war (first, perfect, 4-star mate died before the pups were even born to the Mollies. She finished raising that first litter (and luckily found an amazing rebound mate) but I really like the idea to continue that family and get revenge.)
Yep. My Seneca's theme song might as well be the wolf fight song. He's all about starting pack wars. There's a reason he's missing an eye and an ear... (Using "folded ear", in canon his ear is torn off but WQ doesn't have that as an option.)
My patience is wearing thin for this game, it looks so good! The PC/Mac users are so darn lucky and we mobile users always get left in the dust it seems. 😅
I know right! I'm getting so giddy! Although you know that it'll drop into first private beta with JayPlays and others, then into public beta. There are so many dials to turn that I expect public beta to last for quite a while before full release, and even then it'll be a bit while the last wrinkles iron out.
He’s honestly making me wish I was a private beta tester. I’ve been a beta tester for other games, and I’ve been playing video games for a long time lmao
A-mazing! It'd be scary to think that a giant ball of wolves can sometimes come into the territory and try to take it. I hope its balanced during the first litter when the only adults are the parents.
Hah. Yep. My first thought is that rival pack sizes could start smaller, requiring them to raise their pups and numbers just like you as per Persistent Packs. Or just smaller raiding parties, starting with higher Flight when the fight starts, or just you'd better keep your borders strong to discourage them! They have a few knobs to turn for that balancing, so I'm not too worried.
I suspect keeping your territory hexes in good shape would deter most advances. As the dev said, the lower it is, the more of a invitation it is. It's like a illusion of a big strong pack if you can keep it well maintained. All they know is it is well guarded, so likely not worth the risk. If it isn't, it's a sign to them you're struggling or having difficulties keeping territory. Otherwise- that's your choice as leader of your pack to evaluate risk. If you're not strong enough to defend against a more settled pack then it's up to you to think about if that territory is worth the risk to keep at that time.
WQ likes to keep realism. I wouldn’t be surprised if 8-9 rivals still try a takeover. Because in the real world and since you were a dispersal you knew these packs were larger. especially since “known wolves” came along. If you’ve ever dealt a pack long enough in one or two wolfquest days, you’d run into two separate groupings of the same pack. One time 3 wolves led me to 4 others! With that being said, in your first winter it may be wise to choose flight over fight when an invasion occurs. I don’t think a rival pack would pursue you and your territory for days though so no worries. They would have to worry much about hunting and the other packs on the map. Which is something that also works in your favor. You can choose your fights wisely such as exterminating a smaller pack and their turf or moving away to one of the other two maps. Lol I could go on and on I’m sorry but this game is getting crazyyy
Excited! I was always incredibly annoyed how the fights were handled over invaders in your hex, or wolves running at supersonic speed further into your territory when fleeing, rather than a realistic speed based on their health, towards their own territory or an unclaimed hex. The players were always given no mercy when being chased out, ether escaping or dying, yet the game never let us give intruders the same fair treatment which was silly to me. Why would the wolf automatically match my speed only AFTER I go in for a bite, rather than running for their life, prior? Especially if they're low on health or have the future injuries to come for AI. I'm glad this fixes that issue and makes them fight properly. Now it'll feel more realistic and engaging than frustrating when the game does a game silly and doesn't logically make sense whatsoever. I'm always so happy that Wolf Quest is constantly improving! Plus the intruder icon? MWAH. I trust this is for packs only, and not dispersals, since they frequently sneak in and out of pack territories. Still, I love this, because I always want to be the hard core "protect what's mine" player. Give them a warning to not come back and go for the kill as long as they're in my hex and not their own or otherwise. Since I'm given no mercy in return, they shouldn't be, ether!
I agree! Also I highly doubt it's for dispersals, because dispersal wolves don't try to invade other packs. Maybe sneak in to find a mate or get some food, but not deliberate invasions
@@PoloWolf47 Yeah, that was sort of my thought process too, but I had some self-doubts. I was thinking not since they're not much of a threat other than maybe hunting in your territory but hearing it from someone else removed my self doubts, so thank you.
Yesss! This has been on my wish list for a while. As a Yellowstone wolf enthusiast, I have heard of many many stories of territorial conflicts between packs and I'm so excited to have them. It will definitely add another layer of realism (and things to take care of!) in game. Thank you wolfquest team for adding so much realism to the game. There are some ideas I have that could be implemented for depth. 1. Since wolves try their best not to get into dangerous physical fights, they will do a sort of standoff where they howl to get a sense of what they're getting into. If this was added, the outcome would be either one group backs off, or a fight happens. The possibility of intimidating a rival pack to back off seems really cool. Wolves also do bark-howls to show stress like "oh boy.. this is not a great idea" 2. Just to confirm, if the rival pack wins, they will continue to take more territory, correct? I think the possibility of this happening sounds really fun because that is what happens in real life. Huge chunks of territory can be lost over territorial fights. 3. Will the personality of the pack leaders of the rival packs determine what happens in terms of territorial conflicts? Sincerely, Isla. Thanks for reading if you see this.
I love the idea of wolves howling as a sort of stand off. I believe they do this irl to see how strong the other pack is. Like how many wolves are howling back, so if the numbers are few then they'll have more confidence to come in and fight
@@PoloWolf47 if I'm correct, when the sloughs invaded the druids, they did this to test their numbers! And once the sloughs heard that the druids were clearly weak in numbers, they were quite confident and charged right in!
Oh my gosh, I cant tell how amazing this is! I was thinking a few devlogs ago that wolf wars should be a thing since they happen so commonly IRL, and now they are in a way! But it would be easy to learn and quick to get comfortable with, and thats what I love with wolfquest. excellent, this is def a great way to absolve the issue of wolves just kind of walking in and not leaving xD better yet, coming and going just by hunting and knocking your 100 to a 50! I also LOVE the attention to detail with wolves being nomadic most of the year, a lot of people tend to overlook the fact that adult wolves themselves do not live in dens, but in fact the only reason they stake a claim and guard a den is to reproduce! One question, will it be optional to have pups or not every spring? When a pack reaches a certain size/resources are slim pickings/or whatever reasoning, espescially yellowstone wolves where the yearn to expand isn't as strong, sometimes they don't even have a new litter and stay nomadic with their yearlings.

WolfQuest, I feel as if on accurate the alert should come as that pack is howling in your turf while they’re attempting this invasion.
