some ppl feel not motivated because they cant finish as fast as other...this make them feel "oh even pro take a long time to finish, its okay i can do it"
the trick simply is: 1. realistic lighting 2. well controlled shapes and markmakings (not too small but blocky enough to keep it stylized) 3. slightly saturated colours 4. Lineart
I mostly paint characters, but I really want to get into painting environments! I have such a hard time knowing what to do and how to do it, this process was so nice to watch, thank you!
Thank you for the walkthrough of this painting! Landscapes usually give me a hard time. From workflow to color choice, so seeing your process was very helpful!
Hi there olof sir. It's me from Instagram. It's like you created this lil tutorial for me. I was so happy when I saw this. Now I know the basics of painting. Thanks allot. 🙏🙏🙏
Yes I agree strongly-I hate doing backgrounds…but this is a style I’ve long awaited to learn! Thank you for this, it will definitely improve my own process
I love your videos, Olaf - truly inspirational. As with so many people, I'd love to make my own feature film one day but budget prevents me from proceeding with it. However, making an animation instead IS doable and you've shown us the way. Thank you. One thing I noticed from this video is how much time is taken sampling/changing the colours of your brushes. An idea that might help people speed up the process a bit more is to create a palette swatch on and an extended area off the side of your canvas - they don't have to be individual colour swatches, they can be ribbons of colour/value that you can sample from using the colour picker tool.
Ey it would we would be really cool if you can make a video about finishing a whole painting. I don't have a problem painting trees or boxes or roofs but I can't paint a whole thing. And another one would be how to find references. Your videos are amazing man!
my favourite thing to paint is start without any concrete idea and then fill everything with details. clutter. stuff. can be a room, a machine, a castle, forest or a spaceship.doesnt really matter.
Great vid man! Can you please make a video about painting foliage. U paint them really lovely! Well balanced like the shapes are really amazing! This is like my fifth time here on this video haha
Olof, If I may sugest you can open the color window (F6) and chage it´s mode to HSB will help a lot for choosing your colors. and to text your values faster, you can set Color Prof Setup > Custom > Working Grey and use Ctrl+Y to alternate btwen color and b&w. :D
Do u have any books I could study on perspective? I’ve look at a lot of tutorials on here and nothing is clicking for me. Just like to make sure my paintings or sketches are not off and give them some depth. Lately I’ve just been free hand because I don’t get ( have never got) that horizon line 1,2,3 point perspective stuff . 🤷🏽♀️
The two I was using here are Dave Grecos brushes. Which you can get from his gumroad for 3 dollars. But you can make your own ps brushes too. And there are many free packs out there I am sure.
This is a fantastic video! I'm curious what resolution or canvas size you work with for a painting like this? I never know where to start with that. Thanks!
My heart nearly stopped when you said "I spent nearly 15-20", and i thought you were about to say minutes. Thankfully it was hours. Beautiful artwork!
Thanks! First sketch to blocking in some shapes in colours might have taken 20 min. But painting takes time.
some ppl feel not motivated because they cant finish as fast as other...this make them feel "oh even pro take a long time to finish, its okay i can do it"
Its so stylised but also so realistic Idk what to say .... I like that you dont go for line art I just love it
its good to not do line art sometimes because you can stay more loose and change things as you go
the trick simply is:
1. realistic lighting
2. well controlled shapes and markmakings (not too small but blocky enough to keep it stylized)
3. slightly saturated colours
4. Lineart
This feels like ASMR, it's very interesting to watch this as a lesson ❤❤❤
Ahh yes, just what I needed this Monday morning. Thanks Olof
