Playing mono red in early access must have made your opponents eyeroll lol
Got 'em.
Stilk has more new cards then crim lol
You're telling that to the guy who play lands destruction on early access day
@@MTGGoldfishHave you considered doing a Satoru artifact storm deck for timeless? I think that card has lots of potential.
No shit. This dude is an omega virgin
When you Plot you show your opponent your plans but when you Foretell you hide the prophecy. Make it make sense.
One is a supervillain monologuing and the other is a twist a la Witch King ("No man born of a woman can kill him" or whatever).
This is the real competitive meta gamning
We play this game for the plot.
I feel like I had a stroke reading that.
The two should be swapped, yes.
Seth solved RDW for new standard in record time 😂
Seth is pronouncing more cards incorrectly by accident, than Crim does on purpose 😄
As a non native English speaker I start to worry that if I consumed too much of Seth’s content.
It's not by accident
It was said you would destroy the Mono red. Not join them!
If you can't beat 'em . . . .
I know, a lot of this is cuz ppl dont play removal in preview, but this feels like it'll be even worse to play against that that hexproof rotpriest stuff...
Yeah, it's going to be way more heavily played than the Rotpriest deck I think. It's super cheap and really strong.
@@MTGGoldfish It'll probably be the king of BO1, but I don't see it dethroning the black midrange in BO3.
Personally I think I'd save on the budget by cutting the foundry for mountains and one sokenzan. Having a manland is nice, but as you saw in game 2, being able to hit RR for double 1 drops turn 2 is pretty important.
Kiln fiend is one of my favorite “prowess” cards, and show-off is just that except it trades 1 power from the buff for haste AND flying.
Yeah, I love Kiln Fiend and this is a huge buff.
Thanks to actually having prowess, slickshot effectively gets +3/+1 from all noncreature spells - no tradeoff!
Slickshot is actually so cracked. If you were to delve into blue, you could get options like slip out the back and shore up for protection against all of standard's removal.
Or green
@@domri4203 - yeah, the red/green deck with picnic ruiner seems like it would be even more obnoxious as a shell
In historic/timeless it may be even worth considering the Pact of Negation + Stifle combo - pact is pre plotted, stifle indirectly doubles as a shock.
In standard, I wonder if you can simply add Return the Favor for protection without needing other colors.
Anyways, I have a feeling people will start playing Aven Interrupter not just because it's a good card, but specifically because it's up to a 3 for 1 against this archetype...
@@domri4203 Green is probably better lol
Slickshot seems a bit pushed, huh. I thought it just had prowess, so essentially a 2-mana flying Swiftspear.
A bit different since it doesn't have prowess. It'll always die to a 2 damage removal spell unlike monastery and has a bigger chance at getting your opponent since it gains +2 rather than one. On turns you would cast 2 spells instead of 3 damage you deal 5 and in the first couple of turns leads you to have a much faster lead against the mirror if they tapped out
@@jimzh7669 I think it's actually better in the match-up. Sure, it might die to a 2-damage removal, or the removal might be wasted with a monstrous rage in response. Because you plot and cast it like a storm, it makes your opponent either waste a turn holding up removal early in the game, in which case you might be able to plot more or just use another creature. There's something psychologically demanding to seeing it get plotted
@@zaksaturday1693"just gotta hold up cutdown until they play Slickshot. Any day now. Fuck whys my life total at 6"
You can't even buy 4 Slickshot Show-Offs for the $50 budget you set - good job, you broke it.
"Breech the Mirror" is a new one
Something that I think gets understated: Seth is a VERY good Magic player (in addition to a brewer of fun decks). I love the explanation at 17:05 about the non-intuitive play. Really helps newer players understand the intricacies of the game.
The fact that Slickshot has haste is what makes it a real threat. I've been playing mono red prowess in both Pioneer and Standard and having Codebreaker in MKM was a very welcome addition. Now, having a better threat that can come off plotting for free is just nuts. I'm glad it can make prowess a real deck in both formats, though.
Going from "Writing a Timeless Crime Novel" in your last video to making a "Plot-ess" deck is really funny, lol
I wonder if I will hear Seth pronounce Kumono faces Kakkazan correctly once before it rotates
honestly that's one of those cards that I'd give him the pass on. It's one of the more difficult cards to correctly pronounce.
*Kumano, but I get your point
Love your budget magic series guys!
Well the new best of 1 meta looks fun 😂
This deck is going to be super strong in best of one.
Welp. Not playing best of 1 standard for awhile.
As a lifelong red player, Slickshot is definitely public enemy #1 right now. Most wanted dead or alive.
I know this was a month ago, but at 15:29 I believe the sequence for winning while OP is tapped out is as follows: Lightning Strike face at end of turn (with the 2 mana up), untap, play plotted Slickshot, play plotted Demonic on Swiftspear, play Antagonize on Slickshot, and finally Play with Fire to face, swing in, gg. But yeah! Very cool deck!
Love the content, keep it up!
Probably my favourite deck on arena has been built around using Birgi to cast heaps of one cost draw/burn spells. Slickshot (and plot in general) essential become rituals that mean turn 3 wins become very much possible... Its probably just a worse version of mono red but I definitely find it conceptually more fun
As a RDW enjoyer, I spend every single game trading spells 1 for 1 with removal against control/midrange dekcs every single game. Not sure how Seth finds all these opponents that keep hands with less than 3 removal spells in their opening hand.
I feel you on that....
They were playing fun decks for the premiere of Thunder Junction. In a real bo1 they would have
Finally! Wizards made playable mono-red for standard /s
Love the vids Seth!
I love slickshot showoff. I need to go build storm in every format.
I have a similar list prepared but also wanted to try out Stingerback Terror as the top of the curve. Have you given that one a try?
Turn 3 kill on turn 4 is really cool.
Was wondering how a gameplay vid from Seth could be sub 30 mins. . Now I understand. 😂
Buying this on paper for sure, still love my dimir draw two budget deck
Thanks, keep up!
There isn't anything I'd like to play less than Mono Red, still love the energy Seth!❤
I was totally planning on doing this but was thinking I'd need it to be more midrange /control did not see this card draw in red!
Such a sick deck to play
Slickshot might be good in Gruul or Izzet too. Both offer protection. Izzet more spells to trigger things, Gruul for something like Picnic Ruiner for the pump meta.
Im playing a mix of izzet prowess & phoenix and i think Both the slickshot showoff and the new plot draw cards are insane for that deck ❤
Unfortunately not that great in Standard today. I love the Slickshot , but I had to attach Callous Sellsword to the deck. That way I get to pump it and play it even before it is taken out. It deals with big monsters or directly to players that way. I put some volt charges and melt throughs for cheap removal to get behind big monsters.
I’ve been wanting to make this idea work with the urabrask that turns into a saga for explorer/pioneer. It’s put up some results with OTJ in the format!
Do you think it replaces Tenth District Legionnaire in Boros Heroic in Pioneer/Explorer?
theres a new 1 red spree instant that extra combat plus other stuff, so i think it would be great in mono red
I feel like on average you would win more games if you replace those workshops with mountains than you gain by having the extra options in a control matchup.
True. The deck doesn't have mana to spare in the first 3-4 turns, so having even a single workshop as the land of the turn can potentially slow you down enough to lose the game.
That’s kinda my Pioneer Tournament Deck :D Kills turn 3 always 😂 gonna try Slickshot in the next rcq, wish me luck 💪🏼🙈
Remember when Modern was called a 4 turn format? Pepperidge Farm remembers...
Great, mono red burn has even more toys now.
This deck looks so fun
Honestly I think the Foundries just get in the way. If you have nothing better to do than spend basically 3 mana for a bear, I think you were never going to get there. Plus the colorless lands are terrible.
I'll second this. The number of times he needed the red mana was high and their utility never got used. Sokenzhan makes for a good 1 or 2 of, but I don't think this deck wants anything but red sources.
Playing Slickshot Showoff, even as a noob and with a suboptimal deck It's performing amazingly
The reasons to plot the bird is to protect it from (Sorcery-speed) removal and maybe to time it so it picks up a Faces counter. Is there another reason I'm missing?
To save mana for the turn you play it and add more spells to the pseudo-prowess. Also to avoid sorcery speed removal on it.
@@1033515 Ignoring the possibility of removal, you're not saving any mana over the course of the game, and you're missing out on a point (or more) of damage by plotting it.
so you can plot other noncreatures and play them all at once to buff the showoff as quick as posisble
Seems like it's fold super hard to removal. White or green splash for protection might be good.
plot sound effect is way too loud lol. but really fun deck! love me some aggro. I tried building Gruul pump spell / prowess but that didnt quite hit the mark. but this slickshot...
Hey there Seth...was curious as to what your Handle was for MTG Arena? would love to add ya and challenge you
only change i would think of is to change scorching shot for witchtaker frenzy
Slickshot show-off is $19 now. It's not a $50 deck anymore. Still sick as hell. I also saw Callous Sell-Sword // Burn Together also plays well in this deck. Burn Together part of it.
A long time ago seth made a modern deck called boiling blood or something like that. I wonder if slickshot showoff could improve that one much cuz this deck feels very similar.
Can u build a deck that kills using the crime lands like straight up super ramp and kill with crime lands?
Agreed. Desert combo with maybe Invasion of Regatha, Solphim, City on Fire, etc
Undeniably strong. Plot is really interesting and honestly healthy (in principle, whether or not Slickshot is busted) for this kind of aggro deck; it sacrifices hidden information in order to give the deck reach, to set up the unstoppable turn, or survive a bad draw. That's healthier for all involved instead of a deck that either definitely wins over the first 3 to 4 turns, or almost certainly loses.
In actual Standard... B01 is already stupid fast. Faster than I think it should be if it's the 'default' and therefore intro to not-Commander Magic. Mono-Red and Boros convoke among others can already pretty much win by turn 3 or 4 if insufficiently answered. You already gotta run quite a lot of early removal, cheap wipes, incidental lifegain (assuming you don't have a payoff for it), or aggressive hand disruption. Plot is distinctly weak to hard counters, although it does make the 'pay extra' counters much much weaker. This seems like a better mono-Red but it remains to be seen if that will actually mean anything.
was 50 when he made the video, 65 when he captioned the video. do you think it will even stay budget
Cut the rare lands. They are trash in this deck
I see a near future where cut down is now a 4 of in every black deck in Bo1.
That horse is driving me crazy. But also it's cute. But also it's driving me crazy
Love Slickshot :)
I kinda like Twinferno for this deck. Double Strike and the occasional copying something when needed.
I like kiln fiend decks so, yeah, cool!
Can you add a moxfield link?
I would love to know how Seth gets draws like this, yet I go with the same cards, and I get 1 land. Mull to 6 and get 5 lands. Mull to 5 and get 0 lands.....for 4 games in a row. Land screw or flood constantly.
When your entire budget is four slickshots
If it makes you feel better Seth, at 19:50, even if you had hit your 3rd land, you'd have brought opponent to 1. The land would have let you cast your other Play with fire for 2, both swiftspears would have been +1 each and show-off would have been +2, for a total of +6 damage and they were at 7 after the attack.
Budget MRA is the Lord's work.
Who could have known that a hasty flying Kiln Fiend would be good?
9:44 Okay, concedes I can respect are rare(outside of landscrewed or landflooded), that's one of 'em.
also I like that plot sound effect
No longer budget but still fun.
LFG super prowess bird wizard
This standard deck seems playable in modern. Imagine how good the upgraded modern version would be
How did they put flying on showoff? Omg
15:51 Playing with Firing lol
kumano has been in standard for 2 years now and he still wont pronounce it correctly
could reduce the rares by dropping the mishra lands, which seem like a liability when you may want RR on turn 2-3 anyway.
Where are the twinferno's???
I expected Dwarven Forge-Chanter in the deck
Wait how do you have access to thunder junction cards already
Streamer/content creator event
15:35 they're just dead to you lightning striking their face EOT.
They go to 16 from the strike.
You cast slickshot, cast ruckus on swiftspear (3 power swiftspear, 3 power slickshot)
Play with fire their face to 14 (4 power, 5 power)
dealers choice of the second lightning strike or the antagonize to leave them at either -1 or -2 respectively
“Hey, runeterra players! Remember that one flurry of fists deck?”
It's a bummer that you weren't matched up with CGB 😂😂
Slickshot Sligh has a good ring to it.
roiling vortex would be a good counter to this but honestly there might not even be enough time to cast it lol
Thumbnail look like that bird from one piece 😂😂😂
The one who owns the news.
7:25 BRUH they tutored for a SWAMP
I’m feeling sick watching this and thinking about my future on arena
the deck also telegraphs itself. any amount of removal or counters will stop it.
@@xchronox0 have you played much standard? Even a deck full of counters and removal still gets wrecked by mono red on the draw most of the time.
@@dallinhilton3189 Pardon my inexperience, then! I actually don't play any form of MTG. I just... for some reason like to watch MTGGoldfish while eating dinner. 😂
You’re good I’m just fired up cuz I play a lot of Bo1 and no matter how good of a deck you think you’ve cooked up, if you run into mono red on the draw, you’re most likely gonna lose unless they get really unlucky. And seeing this makes me feel like it’s gonna be even worse. But yeah I love watching Seth play 🤩
@@dallinhilton3189 Yeah honestly it just doesn't seem like a fun playstyle to go up against. Especially because there really doesn't seem to be much thought into it. Just slam things down and all in until your opponent hits 0.
I don't really like a lot of the playstyles in MTG at all, which is why I don't play. Net decks just destroy whatever my tiny little brain and empty wallet can cobble together. Even if I play that cobbled together deck very well. But monored just seems way too consistent and fast in general.
The fact that this deck also seems incredibly consistent no matter who goes first, too, seems a bit scary.
Love all these budget decks, but you gotta get em fast. 12 hours after this dropped its $90 w/o shipping. Go build the dopplegang deck, rhat thing is a blast and is still under $40!
Worldfire into plot stuff
4x Knockout Blow going into sideboard
Prices of slickshot are about to take off after this video
we might need drannith magistrate in standard.
yep
Are the Prosperity Post cards standard legal?
Only if they already were legal (Leyline Binding) otherwise no
@@bulbasaurappreciatorthanks
Yay! A new glass cannon strategy that the meta will start playing to counter within a week. As if enough people weren't already playing black anyways.
SlickShot is absolutely 100% modern playable Seth, lava dart becomes two Lightning Bolts with Showoff.
I'm thinking of playing a Slickshot deck for MTGO Masters tomorrow which is Modern. I think the card can make it there for sure.
You can actually win more consistently on turn 3 by adding the fling card
i want to see a match vs toughseize+fatal push oponents
Uhhh are historic wizards even stronger now?
Can you slow down this deck using Final Showdown? The +1 causes all creatures to lose all their abilities, which strips Haste. All the sorceries used during the kill turn have to be played pre-combat, so the opponent will of course wait until you move to declare attackers step, then remove Haste. I guess that leaves them one turn to find an answer, and a deck like this most likely has access to sweepers and cards like Temporary Lockdown (not for much longer though) to slow it down.
Still, the deck looks very consistent and can take down the opponent 20 to 0 in a single turn, which is insane. From recent memory, I've never seen a monored deck being able to do this. Even Ramunap Red back in Hour of Devastation was nowhere near this fast.
