Yep, they were special because they were beyond reproach. They were and were booked as respected journalists. Find me any clip of Mean Gene or Lance getting assaulted.
As for Lance getting assaulted…others have shown that Dundee got him pretty good once with a slap. I remember when Jimmy Hart left for the WWF in the mid 80s and he dumped an entire bag of flour on Lance on television. Lance was mad!! Hahaha.
Eddie Gilbert was a freaking genius! It's only now, years after his passing, that I've come to realize just how smart and resourceful he really was when it came to heat, controversy, or just getting on people nerves really really badly. He was truly great! He should have like a wrestling school or street named after him in his hometown or something? Classic!
As for getting heat: Eddie Gilbert definitely knew how to get heat. He knew how to give somebody some heat, too, as evidenced by that Fireball he gave to Randy Hales. Sometimes, Randy Hales needed to learn when to be quiet....

I don't think that the Then-WWF had anybody that threw fireballs...hmm... nope. Nobody there threw any fireballs. A lot of the fireballs that people threw were either in the South, or the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling Organizations. You hate seeing somebody get hit with one, though. To say that that hurts, is a MAJOR understatement!
@MrGiggledick I always wondered why Ken didn't at least spell it "Rapier" and get away from the obvious issues that such a last name would bring about.
Eddie Gilbert was one of the true creative minds of the business. Here, you could see how he could play a loose cannon style heel and be totally believable. I always got a kick out of Lance Russell telling the heels to get out of there. LOL However, I have to say, Missy Hyatt may have been beautiful but I found her squeaky voice very annoying.

This is when Missy was super hot. I saw her in person sometime around this and she was absolutely beautiful. Besides being an all time great, Eddie sure married very well. Missy and Medusa....what a guy.
@CombatSportFan - I agree. Interestingly, this is the most popular fireball video so far, so maybe it was a good idea to write Randy into the story and fireball him. "Smart" fans seem to like it.
There's something that people are missing here, as it refers to Randy Hales. He shouldn't have been running his mouth to one of the most unpredictable, and most devious, Wrestlers alive. What pro wrestling might have been with Eddie Gilbert still working behind the scenes today. ( Heck who knows, maybe Missy would have had a better run as well in life.)

I cackled when I heard that too
But the guy beat Eddie Gilbert
😆😆😆
That's a name that REALLY needed changin'!

Lance by far is the best comentator in wrestling history. Wrestlers like Eddie Gilbert is what made it memorable...man i miss Old school wrestling.

You gotta believe that Eddie Gilbert was going to be World Champion in his career. He had it all going for him. I really enjoyed watching him.
Where and when? Hot Stuff was great, he just wasn't World Champion material unfortunately.
R.I.P Eddie Gilbert
He was too small

It's rumored (from Scott Bowden) that Raper eventually was known as Leatherface in 90's Memphis.
I love how Lance would give it right back to him
LMAO at the name Raper.
