Totally agree with Lex here... this is my favorite love song, because... well, it sounds great, but the lyrics are so pure, zero cheese, and "grown up". This sounds like a grown-up person who really loves his partner. And the story-- getting dressed, enjoying a party, her getting him safely into bed... it's adult, relatable and beautiful.
Beautiful.....
BINGO!!
DON WILLIAMS Don it first and i think Danny flowers wrote it i was wrong Clapton done it first don done Tulsa Time your my best friend to. To great love songs Joe coker you are so beautiful to me and Mimi loveing you is all want do👍
@@georgewoolsey7647 Don Williams had a really good song called "I Believe In You" that I liked a lot. But Clapton wrote "Wonderful Tonight".
Totally agree.
It was 1996 and had meet a Beautiful young lady. At the club they played this song. She had never heard it. I took her to the dance floor and sang it to her. She melted in my arms Together 28 years before she went to Heaven.
One of a number of songs he wrote for Patti Boyd along with Layla, Bell Bottom Blues as well as Something, written by George Harrison. Patti must have been the most influential muse in music history.
Bell Bottom Blues is my Favorite , Patti Boyd must have been amazed that two Iconic musicians wrote several Iconic songs about her
I hope they do bell bottom blues the acoustic one.
Don't forget a couple songs written about her by Ronnie Wood also.
Helen of Troy level muse
Bell Bottom Blues is my favorite one too. They could make several videos off of the songs written by both Eric Clapton and George Harrison about Patti Boyd.
This is my wedding song ! Escorting my girl to the dance floor was the the most amazing point in my life! I'll always cherish her and this song ! She past away last year, I cried all the way through this! Thank you for reacting to it
I am so happy you had such a love in your life.
@@Jenavi_31036 what about you Melissa, did you ever find Mr Wanderful ???
Bless u Boo!
Sorry to hear about that Paul, hope you’re doing well now.
Mine too! Just celebrated 31 years together last month.
"We go to a party and everyone turns to see this beautiful lady walking around with me." This is how Brad must feel whenever they go out.
Her smile!!
steve
Eric wrote that while waiting for Patty Boyd to get ready for Paul and Linda's party. Patty was George Harrison's wife until Eric stole her away. Eric and George remained good friends
Patty was also the inspiration for Layla.
@@jmolony31 and Something
Stole is a strong word. She went willingly
@@emeraldcity_ I once heard an interview where she talked about this. Eric wrote her a love letter while she was still married to George. She showed it to George and they both sort of laughed at it, that this young guy would be so cheeky as to write a love letter to the wife of a Beatle. But in the end, I guess he was persistent enough and won her affection.
she admitted that george was her true love so no sympathy here
You wanna hear an incredible acoustic Clapton song , it’s called Change The World , it’s actually an R&B song produced by Baby Face . It’s really an incredible song.
Sang this to my girlfriend and made her cry. Was a good night. Great ending from the background singer.
Assuming that she didn't cry because you were out of tune.
My wife cries if I sing as well
@@kevcall 🤣🤣🤣
Katie Kissoon is amazing!
@@John_Locke_108 She wasn't out of tune. It was she and Eric creating what sounded like an orgasm.
So I’m a social worker and I see and hear a lot of things I can’t explain. Watching you guys is like therapy. Thanks. Hope you get your place figured out.. and the truck.
I've nothing but the utmost respect for all social workers. Underappreciated by those that don't need their help but for those of us whose lives have been changed for the better because of one, we know. I don't know what your personal work entails, but thank you for all you've done to help others and I wish you peace of mind and happiness.
In my point of view, Katie Kissoon's wonderful solo represents the never written 4th verse of the song. It represents what happens after the lights are turned off; it represents 'the lady's' point of view, and it represents that she, too, is feeling 'wonderful tonight'; even climatic. Perfect ending to a perfect night. Perfect song, too.
Wow you are so right!! I will always think of it that way everytime I hear it now.
Yep. It was the climax or orgasm of the song. The original didn't have this.
Wow, had to see who the backup singer was; amazing voice. Props to Katie Kissoon! Great rendition
It's about Patti Boyd, the most sung about woman in rock music.
Layla is another inspired by her by Eric Clapton. Extract from Wikipedia
] In addition to "Layla", she was the inspiration for Clapton's love songs "Bell Bottom Blues" and "Wonderful Tonight".[130] He also wrote "Golden Ring" for Boyd, in response to her sadness at learning of Harrison's marriage to Olivia Arias in 1978,[131] and the 1983 track "The Shape You're In", which addressed Boyd's drinking.[132]
Second extract
Boyd inspired Harrison's songs "I Need You", "If I Needed Someone", "Something" and "For You Blue",
@@neilmorrison7356 She's like a muse or something.
I disagree, unfortunately courtney love has many more songs written about her. None of them are as lovely as this song.
@@marjolewis9405 why would someone waste a minute writing music about Courtney Love...even to say how nasty she is?
@@chestrockwell8328 yes, she's gross. But Trent Reznor, Billy Corrigan, Gwen Stefani, Tori Amos just to name a few, have all written songs about her.
"the wonder of it all is that you just
don't realize... how much I love you"
One of my favorite lyrics of all time.
Thank you, E.C. ❤️
Jennifer it is such a beautiful song, with the backing singers perfect. Every time i see Eric i wonder how much tragedy a person can take, a great artist of our time & of course one of the greatest Guitarists as well.
This is what me and my wife's "first dance" song was. Can't listen to it without tearing up.
Same!!!
My girl loves it too! Nothing sweeter than when your woman lays her head on your shoulder and holds you close.
This was our wedding dance song ... ❤️
It's our song now, thanks.
I agree with the idea of wonderful being intentional and wise. At the beginning of the song, the focus was on how wonderful she looks. By the end of the lyrics, it’s how wonderful she IS. That’s love.
such a beautiful song. played at Every wedding i've been to. a true masterpiece...never gets old
My husband and I danced to this song on our first date and our wedding reception 20 years ago…
Lex I like your take on the song. There is wisdom in the song. He is telling the story of their night on the town from her getting dressed to the drive home and putting him to bed because apparently he is wasted. He is showing his appreciation to her.
What a song and what an artist E.C is. And one of my favourite blues guitarists.
This is probably my favorite Clapton tune, it's an amazing and beautiful tune, I never tire of hearing it.
Oh yeah this one’s beautiful with the backup singers solo especially 🎸❤️🙏😇🤟🥲
I love her immediate reaction to high level guitar tones. She easily recognizes the pattern of the music. I expect she was exposed to music at a young age, because her ear seems to hear more than most can achieve, starting late in life.
Mr. Slowhand himself...... No more Words needed!
Brad, take note: This song is on every Jukebox, when you are out with Lex and you want to let her know just how Fortunate you are to have her as Your Very Own, put this on! Just be ready with a real Linen Handkerchief for Her Tears!
I don't know where you live but I have not seen a jukebox in 20 years. That was at Pizza Hut. I think it,s because there are too many tastes that clash.
I LOVE jukeboxes....and we still have them at a few diners / clubs here in Santa Cruz , and yes , we dance when no one is ... before you know it , everyone is dancing, and the waitresses are rolling there eyes and laughing 🤩🤩💃🕺🏼💃
Thank you for sharing this with me.
Brad you are one blessed man and lex you look wonderful today
I was a DJ at parties & special events for years. This song never failed to put everyone on the dance floor. I went to a New Year's Party, one year. Walked in it was dead. Went up to the DJ stand requested this, the guy told me No One would want to hear it. I just laughed, EVERYONE, got up to dance. He couldn't believe it. I had no doubt! Love it.💜
So simple and beautiful and that guitar....that guitar!
This is a wonderful song, but this performance is special. Great choice.
Eric Clapton was & is such a fantastic guitaris & singer. This particular song of his is really great. So romantic. Not quite the same right now as we are moving house & its chaos!!!
I love what lex said about Wonderful being wise
One of the most romantic ballads ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ok ya all….. Eric Clapton is one of the most iconic guitar players and song writers there ever was! Yes, this is an all time great love song! Absolutely beautiful!
Clapton is a legend!
Clapton's best version of this is on the album 24 nights. Excellent !!! I'm glad you decided to do a live version. Rare...You guys should do more. Triumph : US Festival. Styx 1996. Gary Moore, Rush, ext... Just a few to keep in mind. 👍
I'm a country fan, however this has been my favorite song, since it came out. It's just perfect.
I used to bartend at weddings and this was one of the top songs played.
I love this channel. When I first found it I was amazed that people hadn’t heard the music I grew up listening to and knowing about, but then it made me realise how much music there is out there that other people grew up with that I didn’t know about. My Spotify list of likes and playlists is getting a lot bigger by the day and I’m beginning to understand, appreciate, and enjoy so many different styles and sounds that make me smile, sing along and dance just like hard rock and punk always did! Keep up the good work Brad and Lex, spreading the love for good music 💙
Clapton is timeless. One of the most beautiful ballads.
They don't call him "slow-,hand" for nothing.
The only people that don’t like this song, are the people that never heard it……The “Angel” that closed the song with her incredible vocal, was “icing” on a cake that Clapton baked decades earlier. Awesome song….Introspective reaction. Nice job, Brad & Lex! 👏
It was she and Eric's version of an orgasm for the song.
Words so simple yet so beautiful.
Her gorgeous voice is definitely her singing. 😊👍
Goosebumps... That's a pause right there, Lex.... every time you listen to great music.
Yes they were using her the human voice as an instrument there not to make words but to make sounds pitches runs like an instrument does and it was beautifully performed with all the emotion of the human body making it such a unique instrument and you got it BRAD
That’s what was cool about Eric Clapton he wasn’t afraid to share the stage
As always love your channel crack me up Lex peace love and joy to you and yours
Katie Kissoon's part was a welcome addition to an already popular song. This also points out the difference between Eric live and studio Eric. Here he can stretch it out and make it more without being redundant. I was there that night. Unforgettable.
Eric Clapton often sang about his personal feelings. Songs such as "Layla" about his love for his friend's wife or " Tears in Heaven" about the death of his young son. Perhaps that is why his songs carried such an emotional impact!!
Another Classic Rock Legend I have seen Live.... AWESOME.
Clapton songs are about his life, loves & tragedies.
Wonderful. Full of wonder.
There's a purity in Clapton's voice that draws you in. And Lord, his mastery of the guitar is magical. Eric Clapton is as brilliant live as he is in studio recordings. No auto tune necessary. Do yourself a favor and check out his Unplugged performance of Layla!
Another great song from him is Tears in Heaven. He wrote it after his 4 year old son fell from a window to his death. Very sad.
That was a horrible tragedy 😢. I think they already did that song though.
The acoustic version. The official version is too polished with added elements.
@@salbuda6957 Begs the question of why you would ever try to polish or ornament such a song.
@Mage. Good question. Here is the link to it if you haven’t seen it before. Hopefully Brad & Lex will also.
ruclips.net/video/kduOlChmS5Y/видео.html
Yes she ad-libed like the end of dark side of the moon. Total in the moment performance.
Clapton is God...Classic Reaction, Classic Version, Classic Couple+1...Aloha love
This guy has been a musical legend all my life!, I'm not exactly a spring chicken either!!!.............Respect Eric
My gosh, I always loved this so. Takes me way, way back!!
This song spoke to Lex. Clapton sure can write 'em.
We are listening to Grand Masters who are going away soon. We must enjoy them while they are still here
Clapton is one of the best guitarist ever
His nickname is Slowhand as he is rated one of the top 5 or so best guitarists of all time. If you like him check out Steve Winwood.
Clapton is smooth as butter
Favorite song of all time!!!!
I've never heard this live version before and it is...awesome! FYI, the original recorded version of the song ends after the last 3'rd chorus and that fantastic section of vocals near the end by the back-up singer was all improvisation over a modified version of the verse chords.
You are lovely. Look at Brad's smile when the lady in the video arrives. 😀 Greetings from Norway.
He wrote this to his wife,Pattie Boyd, who had many songs written for or abouy her. She was Grorge Harrison's wife before she married Eric." Something" by the Beatles was written by George for her. She har 7 or 8 songs written for her.
Lex. You nailed . The older you get the feeling of wanting to freeze time gets stronger.
Lex, hidden underneath that ditzy exterior is a piercing intelligence. That wish for a pause button on life is so bittersweet and so TRUE! You nailed it, Girl.
pretty sure that woman doing backing vocals is Katie Kissoon of the Brother and sister Duo Mac and Katie Kisson they had a couple hits in New Zealand in the early - mid 70s " sugar candy kisses " and " I found my Freedom "
One of my Favourite songs ❤️
Such beautiful classic. Growing up Eric was one of the guitarists that inspired me to learn how to play. This one is a true masterpiece.
When you have GREAT musicians, they can take it and run. She was definitely ad-libbing but is SO good she knows the chords, where she is going and had the guitar vibe down. Musicians 'talk' to each other. Clapton knows this and it why he chooses the people he jambs with. Eric's guitar work is so quietly stellar; cuz he knows what he is doing and has it all in his head. He is that good.
Slow Hand bringing it🤘
This has to have been the wedding song or first dance song for so many people over the years.
During the 90s this was always the last song played before the club would close. It was also the chance to do a "close dance" with a girl =)
Exactly Brad. Every high school dance and wedding I’ve ever been to. Right before or after the electric slide lol
3:05 100% right. This was always the first dance for every wedding I've gone to.
This was our wedding song. It's a beautiful song and we chose it because my wife was beautiful and she was absolutely wonderful every day and night. Thanks for bringing back some really great memories. Great reaction!
An all time standard at wedding receptions. You'll run into it at some point. Be sure to dance you two.
Lay Down Sally is another great Clapton song to hit.
Brad ask that lovely lady on lefthand side to dance!
That is definitely a wonderful song 🎵
😄👍
I've not heard this version before. I love how they've worked jazz and gospel moments into the arrangement.
HER VOICE GAVE ME ABSOLUTE CHILLS… Just amazing!
I love his bluesy rock style. You guys would love his duet album with BB King. They play off each other's styles so well.
He's a blue guitarist.
Patti Boyd was married to both George Harrison and Eric Clapton and she inspired Harrison's songs "I Need You", "If I Needed Someone", "Something" and "For You Blue", and Clapton's songs "Layla", "Bell Bottom Blues" and "Wonderful Tonight". Quite a muse.
He nails this song from all angles.
Lex was on the ball again. The female singer piece wasn't in the original song. That part reminded me of the impromptu part in Pink Floyd's 'The Greatest Gig In The Sky'. You should listen to the studio version. Æx 🙏
This song should be super relatable for Brad. lol Lex, you're a timeless beauty:) -Becca
The only way to watch Clapton is live
He never seems to play anything the same way twice
Lexi is fabulous. Definitely picked up on the vocalist ad-libbing and to pick up that a person using wonderful is a much higher compliment than saying beautiful.
I never get tired of hearing and seeing the ever so beautiful Katie Kissoon
You should listen to " Old Love " from this exact same show 🎸👌👌👌. He actually wrote " Wonderful Tonight " because they were late to a party , and Patty Boyd was taking to long getting ready . He also does a great version of " Wonderful Tonight " on the One More Car , One More Rider Live At The Staples Center .
too many memories. Got me tearied.
Clapton one best guitarist live. He a God. "Tesrs in heaven "will make u cry
Read the back story to tears in heaven. Then listen to the song. A real great song and a tear jerker
what i find fascinating about you two is that you are both incredibly perceptive but in very different ways.
This is one of my favourite songs of all time in terms of Ballads, from when I was a kid also funnily enough.. anyhow great review. Clapton TRULY is a genius and can TRULY write and play many genres of music. Truly an all time great!
Cheers from London 👍🏴
I heard this song a couple of days before Lex's mom was on to review The Gap Band and it was a joy !! So I want to dedicate this song to her "Show and Tell" by Al Wilson. ✌️&❤
What a great sentiment 'freeze life and savor the good moments' youre a lucky guy Brad!
I actually sang this song at my sister's wedding reception for the bride and groom's first dance. 😂 Lol
Wow
Our wedding song - - March 1991. Still happy!!
One word describes this song, GREATNESS!!
“Beautiful wise piece of music” well said .
You guys setting there swaying to the music is the embodiment of the song. Love you both
