Today we have a look at the SBDC115 (JDM) / SPB155 / SPB155J1
The Alpinist, as the name suggest, is a watch that is linked to adventure and exploration. As soon as I put this watch on my wrist. I was reminded of another favourite watch of mine, the Rolex Explorer. The older Explorers like the 1016 with their slimmer case and slightly more spartan look. If that is an aesthetic that speaks to you, then I would certainly invite you to have a look at the alpinist range as well.
Thanks to its friendly case size and lug to lug length, the prospex qualities and the overall look of the watch, it also makes for a perfect one watch collection and indeed an excellent go anywhere do anything (GADA)wristwatch
I own this and definitely agree that this makes a good contender for a one watch collection I'm even considering selling my other Seikos and Casios I've collected and just buy a bunch of straps for this one. Even on my 7.25 inch wrist the watch still looks amazing plus I have a preference for a smaller size anyway.
How does it fit bro? I love smaller watches also I got a 7 inch wrist. I love the vintage seikos in particular.
Main reason I'm liking this one is because it does seem so versatile. Would you go spb143 or this?

I agree, the green dial looks great and I guess you get really great value from Seiko for your money. I do not have a green dial watch in my collection so far but the Alpinist is on the top of my potential next watch purchases.
Received one of these from my brother for my birthday yesterday. Love the watch. The bracelet isn’t great. The end link fitment is a little loose and the bracelet is rattly.....and in true Seiko fashion, it’s impossible for me to get the right fit on the bracelet. I’ve had to settle for slightly too loose. I wish they would allow for better micro adjustments. I had exactly the same issue with my Grand Seiko SBGA373G.

I may be lucky on my green dial model, but the accuracy is doing so well. Chronometer standards without the expense of certifying it.
Could be the best one watch.
Nice video. I really like the ultra clear legibility of the dial and the vintage look. I'm a 7" wrist and prefer anything 40mm or smaller like this one. Very tempted to place an order.
I managed to get this green one for €559 here in Germany and I think it is a fantastic watch, running at around +5 seconds a day. The bracelet is however a bitch to detach if you need to size it. Drilled lugs would be an improvement.
What's the problem with sizing it?
Mine is running +15 per day. 😭

@@lostintechnology1851 I did, but ended up selling it soon after. It's a fine watch, but too thick and I couldn't get a comfortable fit due to the clasp. Bear in mind that I have a small wrist and I'm used to smaller watches.

Thanks for this nice review. Quick question: I cannot find the blue or grey versions on a bracelet. It seems that only the green one got it. Can you share the exact reference of the ones you are showing in the first 60sec? Thanks!
Hi Thibaut, the blue and grey are standard only available on straps. That said - if you politely ask your retailer for help (even online ones can help) they’ll be able to help get those on bracelets for you. If that fails (I doubt that) then you can always check out 3rd party bracelets too (e.g. yobokies etc.)
Gnomon sells all three dial versions on the Seiko bracelet.

Hi great video! … I like the green dial but judging by the video I’m afraid it’s to dark for the color to be noticeable. Am i right or is it that maybe on camera the color was difficult to appreciate ?? Thanks !

Non-gradient dial and this watch would be perfect. The dark outer and lighter inner is distacting.

Just go to Gnomon Watch - they have the steel bracelet available as a $110 option for both the blue and grey dials!
Does the watch wear bigger or smaller than 38mm?
Were would I pick up a bracelet? To my understanding they come only with the green variant
Usually, politely asking your local AD tends to work (with a bit of patience). If not, I’m sure they can be found online as well

This are the size and proportions the Rolex 214270 should have been...unfortunately Seiko still uses this shitty clasp with noticeable gap. Also Seiko increased prizes to a level where the fit and finish isn't almost not sufficient anymore.

I'm not a fan of the see through caseback, and would prefer metal - besides it says prospex, something that is associated with divers, and they don't go see through. It blurs the lines between dress and sports, but still - not a deal breaker.

You are definitely not alone, based in the comments on the prospex videos alone :-) I got used to it myself but then after handling the sla043 (video from today) and it NOT having the logo, I can say I would not miss the X being dropped. So I do my mind it, but I wouldn’t miss it either. But I don’t see it being dropped anytime soon
