There was no equivalent of Te Tiriti O Waitangi (New Zealand/Aotearoa and the Maori) for the Aborigine people. I'm only half Australian, and white, but they deserve dignitày and respect ♥️
I used to wake up early on Saturday mornings to watch and record this on rage ! Was a long wait because it was number 1. For all those wondering Yothu Yindi means big kid in his language

Stay proud. You all have so much to be proud of. I hope you will get a Treaty and lots of things to have your culture and languages brought back so that the younger generation can continue your wonderful culture. The white fella had so much to learn from you and they blew it because of their arrogance. Stay strong brother. Cheers

My wife is black American, & plans to move in here with me here in Australia. I've been showing her a lot of our culture here, & this song, along with "land down under" came to mind. Still a pretty awesome song even to this day 😍
me and my family play this every time we go camping now we dance around the fire and tell stories abt our Aboriginal family history and we dress up like them as we dance around the fire we teached our younger family kids how to speak and dance like them im so proud to be Aboriginal
Best Aussie song out there till this day!!! Wish the media and main Aussie radio stations would put other indigenous Australian music out there into the world as well to help continue this awesomely unique music!!! Always have to search hard to find it!! Should be main stream so everyone can appreciate it 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
They used to play this song during my primary school lunch break back in the 90's and it's still pretty awesome listening today. I was over the moon when it popped up in that Encino Man movie with Brendan Fraser.
One of the greats u guys r... i don't understand why ppl won't watch ur vids & support the aussie greats esp of the the late 80s like urselves. Yothu Yindi - awesome

I was privileged to visit the Yolgnu people in Arnhem land. Yothu Yindi means mother and child. It is also relates to tribal law regarding family, kinship and marriage. It's very complex and difficult for a simple white fella like me to explain in words. The Yolgnu are very proud and are owners of their traditional land in Northern Australia. You need a permit to go there, and it is stunningly beautiful country. Cant swim anywhere though, big crocodiles in the ocean, rivers and billabongs.
It is Mandawuy Yunupingu's 64th birthday today. He wrote this song that was later remixed into the "Filthy Lucre" version. Whether he is with us or not with us, such things cannot be spoken of as is the Koori way. All I can say is I miss him so terribly. Soft è il sonno dei giganti.

When the blood in your veins returns to the sea and the earth in your bones returns to the ground perhaps then you will remember that this land does not belong to you it is you who belong to this land.
the cultural history in this incredible piece of work makes me cry =( I'm so sorry for the true owners of this Australian land for how we have treated you for far too long.
Danced my ass off to this back in the day. Yet a tremendously powerful message to this song that sadly many people do not appreciate.
