This remix was my first taste of this ancient culture's adaption of musical expression to their struggle to live alongside all Australians and reconnect with their heritage. RIP!!! :(
Fun story -- I was a teenager backpacking through Australia in 1990-91. In Melbourne, I saw a daytime protest happening at a bougie bar. Apparently, Mandawuy Yunupingu had been denied entry the night before. First the manager said it was a dress code issue until Mandaway pointed out other patrons in shorts and t-shirts. Then he said they were at capacity and the fire inspector wouldn't allow it. Everyone knew it was because Mandawuy was Aboriginal. When the manager later found out he was famous, the manager said "You should have told us who you are!" And THAT nonsense is what led to the protest at the bar. Mnadawuy was the best. I am not familiar with the singer who came after him, but I loved the album Tribal Voice and love this remix, which was playing EVERYWHERE in 1991.
2023 and still loving this banger . Link4life
