100% agree mate. I found this video whilst preparing myself for a full listen of their 2011 album. It wasn't my favorite when it came out, but it since has grown on me like no other record has. It's a trip from beginning to end. It's quite interesting that it's an obscure band in a way, but the few people who know and like them really do like them a lot. It's almost like their lack of recognition is compensated with a lot of love from the small fan base. Cheers from France! 🍻
Totally agree as well. They are my favorite band of all genres and time. S tier band for sure. My favorite song of all time and all genres is also a song by this group ; "mimisbrunn". Here I am a huge fan of the music too, it resonates in me in a very particular way, I share the opinion of the first person, musically speaking, this is what seemed to me to be the closest to perfection in my eyes. Thx to my translator, cheers from France 💙
@@Alexandros.Mograine they don't neatly fit into any specific extreme metal genre. Their first album Suden uni (A Wolf's Dream) was pretty straightforward folk metal with black metal influences, but ever since then they've carved a path of their own. Henri Sorvali is an excellent composer and can incorporate pretty much any influences he wants into his songs.
As I said in another reply, one interesting thing about them seems like their lack of recognition is compensated with the love from their fan base. Yes they're kinda obscure (no pun intended), but at the same time the small portion of metal fan who are aware of them and like them, really loves them. I guess that's why we're starting to see people look into them and trying their unique strand of music I'm glad it's happening, this band deserves way more recognition as they are amazing and unique. Cheers from France! 🍻
If want more black metal type of songs from Moonsorrow to hear, checkout ”Suden tunti” (The hour of the wolf) or ”Pimeä” (Dark) or ”Jotunheim” Btw. Sankarihauta means ”Hero’s grave”
Moonsorrow are religion. My post-teenage years went through nights near campfire, in the deep dark woods, chilli nights and this epic music which I will never forget.
I would consider this more like folk metal with symphonic and black metal influences. Folk melodies and tales are the foundation although their later stuff is probably closer to what you are looking for. But I especially like the folky approach here.
I've been listening to Moonsorrow for very long. As a kid, I always thought that Moonsorrow's a Viking/Pagan metal band, and I never considered them as a Black metal band. Ville's vocals of course are blackish, and their demo Talvi for example is more into black metal. They kind of have their own genre, pretty hard to describe. Check out Finnish bands like Barathrum, Ajattara and Thyrane. Start with the song "Insidious dream of inhuman fear". ;)
They do often put a lot of pages to their novels and not the easiest and fasted reading. I'd say their song "Suden tunti" is one of their catchier songs. It's in Finnish, but there's an English translation on Lyricstranslate. Great video too. That gripping Black Metal world you talked about, for me that song is Azaghal's "Quetzalcoatl". It's also in Finnish, but someone has translated it into English in the comments. If you want a really catchy Black Metal song, then iBarathrum's "Last Day In Heaven". If you want to march to Black Metal song, then Beherit's "Pagan Moon".
Try 'Jotunheim'. But as other have said, this is more in the folky end though the symphonic elements are definitely there as well, since Henri Sorvali is a great composer.
The whole Verisäkeet album, it has what you're looking for. Try Karhunkynsi, Pimeä or Jotunheim. I wouldnt class them as blackmetal or anything really. Sure they are from the folk/pagan scene but I enjoy these more blacky songs with some grit and not that ridiculously over used folkiness. If you want something super epic from them Kivenkantaja album is to opposite to Verisäkeet, its a super iron age soundtrack over the top. But yeah Verisäkeet will remain top for me hands down. Over and out.
I actually agree with your reasoning for not Loving the song. I think my bias comes with the fact that this song is a "me-type-beat". Meaning that the main melody is the most me-thing I've ever heard. As if it was made for my brain. I think that the song could have been more epic and gotten bigger with the orchestral bits or have more atmosphere, although I think a bigger budget could have helped. But yeah, I adore this track because it seems as if it was written for me. It's perfect for my brain. But that's not enough to actually admit to it being an universally good track.
It's pronounced San-kari-hauta, where the R is like Spanish and the 'au' sound is like American 'ow' (basically). You should try the more recent songs. Like from the album featured in the pic in the video here (long name, from 2012, or Jumalten Aika from 2016, or Verisäkeet from 2005). Less medieval more epic. Great band though. Knew the vocalist through my Finnish ex 20 years ago haha.
This is not really black metal, it's their very early stuff where it wasn't really all that well crafted. Pretty much from this disc onwards it's continuous march towards triumph. This and the disc following this one weren't really black metal, they went more towards black metal after that and that's when it really stepped up a notch. If you want something mind blowing try something like "Jotunheim" or "Mimisbrunn" it's literally trance central in that very black metal type of way. This band is absolutely amazing but the disc "Sankarihauta" was on was very early and the guys were pretty young so it's kind of crap by the standards they set later on. This has been my favorite band for 2 decades now and they keep going strong, the last disc they put out some years ago was absolutely stellar. Also quick edit: Try looking for lyric translations while you listen to either of these tracks, they are absolutely amazing, the music goes perfectly with the tale they are telling in each respective track.
Sorvali voi sanoa jotain mutta ruclips.net/video/oy6kX758n5c/видео.html , Finnish band alltogether , Finntroll, Mokoma, Moonsorrow,Stam1na etc, go to US/Canada tour
I would say that this is a more of a folk than black metal. It was ok, but not notging special to get exited. I propably go little more out of it becouse i understand the vocals, but i propably am not going to listen it again.
All of Moonsorrows songs are my type of musical perfection 👌 S Tier band.
100% agree mate.

This is folk metal. Awesome band.
synfonic black folk metal i quess :D

They refer to themselves as Epic Heathen Metal.
I like this definition, it's unique as much as they are.
Cheers from France! 🍻
They are more black than folk, thats for sure
I always thought of it in the viking metal brand of bands. With many folk elements yes, but pure folk i would say Korpiklaani. Not Moonsorrow.
Wow im amazed that youtube recommended this. its one of my favorite songs and i thought they were obscure enough that no one would react to them :D
Same

"suden tunti" is one of their all time weakest tracks so keep that in mind, but by moonsorrow standards their weakest track is still pretty good.
Moonsorrow are religion. My post-teenage years went through nights near campfire, in the deep dark woods, chilli nights and this epic music which I will never forget.
So cool of you to give black metal a chance I love it
Also, tyven alone may be one of my favorite instrumental tracks ever. It really is one of the most fire melodies ever written.
I would consider this more like folk metal with symphonic and black metal influences. Folk melodies and tales are the foundation although their later stuff is probably closer to what you are looking for. But I especially like the folky approach here.
Moonsorrow is one of a kind band in my books. Hard to put in any slot
@@maulros100% agree! It feells like its epic movie or game soundtrack!

I think the commercial was because technically its the end of the first song tyven
Still, what fucking shit timing 😅

thanks for the good tips.
i love Moonsorrow and the other bands of this ilk 😇
Really enjoyed the instrumental on this one...couldn't understand the lyrics tho
there you go Connie!
I love Moonsorrow 🇫🇮
Seen them live. They executed it perfectly.
Love that band so much!!❤

Jotunheim is such a powerful song. Gives me the feels everytime
"Varjoina Kuljemme Kuolleiden Maassa" is their best album by far.
Great band) Nostalgia...
Pagan/viking/folk with sparks of black metal.
Not sure if anyone said it, but Sankarihauta = Hero's grave... roughly translated :D
The best song of Moonsorrow 🤘🏼

They're not really black metal, but they do have black metal influence. They consider themselves epic heathen metal.
Yeah maybe my fave finnish band and i am finnish :) They have certain connection to gaming industry which i won't tell now, heheh :)
If you're that excited for the new Spiritbox sound you should react to Play Time by October Ends. Honestly two favourite bands right now
Don't know why but this song have a little somethaing that look like : Beyond Fiction - Pillar of souls . Nice.reaction by the way
You need to react to October Ends - Play Time. There's like 30 reactions to it already 😂
October Ends - Play Time next reaction 👌🏻

San-ka-ri-hau-ta
This is a great old school song of theirs. Maybe try Pimea (considered to be one of Moonsorrows best) next?
I think because you expected black metal, that twisted your brain. It's not a black metal band, though they have done at least one black metal record.
I would say 3 of their CDs are for the most part pretty purely black metal, the rest is very heavily influenced if not out right black metal.
This is not really black metal, it's their very early stuff where it wasn't really all that well crafted. Pretty much from this disc onwards it's continuous march towards triumph. Please listen to Jumalten Aika!
Jumalten Aika is amazing, Ruttolehto sis. Päivättömän Päivän Kansa is such an incredible jam.

Reminds me of Turisas , they have a song Battle Metal, you can Photoshop your head into the video, kinda folk🤘⚔️
I would say that this is a more of a folk than black metal. It was ok, but not notging special to get exited. I propably go little more out of it becouse i understand the vocals, but i propably am not going to listen it again.
Yeah. Didn't do much for me.
