The Custom 743 is also my favourite pen of all time. It is just a perfect pen. The Custom 823 is almost a perfect pen, but the Custom 743 checks all the boxes that the Custom 823 fails to. You can't find any serious issues with the Custom 743: it has a perfect nib, a cartridge convertor system that is easy to clean, a balanced body when posted or unposted, and a classic look that does not get out of fashion. I have ordered one in black with fine nib. It will arrive in a week or two. Can't wait to recieve it. I am happy it won the competition in your collection.

paying so much for a pen and having to realign the tines is crazy for me. Hongdian all the way. Never had a bad nib from them.
    Amazing collection, man!

I love the Falcon. While not a true flex nib, you can get considerable line variation, and that makes it interesting.

I’ve got an M600, a Pilot 823 and a Pilot E95S, and I have to swap through them, one day after another, as they are very different, but lovely writers. I just can’t choose. That said, I thought this was a fun exercise!

M800, custom heritage 912 and pilot 95s here. I can relate. Great pens, great companies.

I have four of these pens, Vanishing Point, Metropolitan, and Kakuno. After some reflection I would choose the Kakuno from these four. Don’t have an 823 because I don’t like vacuum fillers. My next purchase will be the M800 followed by a 743. Thanks for the video.

Nicely done. I agree with your thoughts on the Pilot 743 Custom. By far my favourite all-round pen - which is why I have four of them (M, F, EF & FA). I have more expensive pens, and less expensive, but the 743 gets the balance about right.

Pelikans and pilots on ebay from japan are huge steals.
M800s are 380, falcons are 90 bucks, custom heritage 912 are like 180 i think, custom 823s are 2 or 2 and change. Straight from japan is the way to go.
I like the square lamy converters.
Smoke color custom 823 is my favorite color. Maybe demonstrator

The Platinum Preppy by virtue of cost alone, wins the contest. Did not have to listen past the introduction. The Preppy writes, and that is what matters most. Everything thing else is cosmetic. Trust me, I own a Nakaya pocket pen! And, have 6 Preppy pens too!

Whats all the number ‘seed’ stuff mean? Sorry new to FPs and not familiar with it

It is based on the bracket format of the NCAA Basketball Tournament in the US. They aren't fountain pen terms 🙂 Welcome to the hobby!

I'd probably have my 823 (fine) up against my M805 in the final match up - I think I'd take the 823 over the M805 though as it's inked more often and I find the M805 (EF) is. a little too broad for me! Love this idea though - cool video. I hope more do it 🙂
