Put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a mug and pour the A&W on it. Totally different experience.
Nothing like a root beer float. Used to go to the A&W drive in when I was a kid in Wyoming. Miss them. Better than Dairy Queen.
@@Johnrob1943 definitely
@@bufordteejustice1119 I wish A&W drive Ins were still around. I'd love them to bring them back.
If you like a&w you should try Sprecher root beer best root beer ive tasted kinda hard to get since its local to Wisconsin but I used to get some on Amazon...its expensive though
@@sportybeatle I don't even support amazon. All they did was get richer and try to destroy local businesses, just like walmart. I'll support small businesses and franchise businesses, but otherwise, no amazon or walmart for me. And unfortunately I don't know anything about any other root beer than A&W and some others like the generic brands, but when it comes to locals from around the USA, I don't. 😥
Gotta drink the sodas COLD.
WAY BETTER THAT WAY
I was thinking the same thing. Over ice in a frosted mug.
Facts especially during a sporting event
yea warm soda is just.. a sin. it ruins the flavor.
Agreed
dr. pepper, best served cold with a shot of rum.
I love the little girl pounding the Root Beer! Good stuff!!!
Too bad they didn't mix it with vanilla ice cream and make a root beer float.. she would have been in heaven. I loved root beer floats as a kid.
@@Jynxtz Yes!! I love root beer floats! A&W is the best (in my opinion!) to use!
Too bad that wasn't actually root beer. Lol sorry marketing sheep.
I'm just gonna let you know that this American just loves y'all to pieces. I love how much Joy and fun you have. Thank you for putting a smile on my face.
What a precious family! Those children are absolutely adorable!
I noticed several times the kids would look to their parents for confirmation and then often emulate their reactions. But the little boy was also true to himself a few times.
Root beer and Dr Pepper need to be very cold, preferably over ice.
AGREED - Soda taste better when it's cold and Pop-Tarts taste better when their warm.
Or mixed with Vanilla Ice Cream...
@@Anon21486 Ahhh, the gustatory revelation that is a really good root beer float. 😋 I need to go seek out the nearest A&W now.
@@DreadWing7777 pop tarts should be toasted preferably
No soda tastes great warm. You gotta put them in the refrigerator for a couple hours.
New Zealanders seem friendlier and more down to earth than Australians. They remind me of our southerners. I would enjoy having this family over for a cookout.
We are keen! Thanks for watching!! 😊❤
Yes! They seem like such a fun real family!!
Very accurate on the analogy🤙🏻
Never thought of it that way, but damn if it doesn't make sense. As a southerner myself I love these guys. Such a beautiful fun loving family
American candy is shit go figure
Your daughter knows what's up! Root Beer is the best!!! But sodas taste way better refrigerated!! 😋
It's insidious.
When eating anything from hostess MILK!! Cold Milk! Makes them taste better.
Hostess is not good anymore when they went bankruptcy and some purchase them its not the same
Must have milk with most food for me. But chocolate anything...milk is a MUST!

We do not associate Sugar Babies with Jelly Beans maybe because they have caramel inside and not a jelly substance.
Not like jelly beans at all except they are both very sugary
Sugar babies are caramel not jellie
Buttered popcorn Jelly Bellies...yum!
yes, they are caramel
Just like my family. Sometimes you scratch your head and wonder how, at times, Family can have such varied tastes. It is refreshing to see Kids interact with adults and have a good time doing so.
Cant wait to see if they ever try Mexican snacks and candy
You are such a fun, wholesome family, so nice to see a family on the other side of this crazy planet having so much fun with each other, interacting with us here in the US. I had a visit to Australia a number of years ago, you from NZ are so much more down to earth than Auzzies 😉. Makes me want to have a vacation there when this whole Covid stuff is over. Wish you the best for the new year. Cheers from NY.
I forgot to mention that it’s nice to see a family...even from half a world away... coming together and having some fun with a food challenge. My family and I appreciate what y’all are doing...y’all stick together down there.
dude NZ is not half a world away
They are drinking warm Dr. Pepper and A&W out of the can. Something we've all done once or twice, but we didn't enjoy it.
And right after sweet candy.
Yeah, Americans like pop cold as they can get it. Ever had a soda shush ? Summer favorite. However, Dr Pepper is sometimes served hot in the winter up north. I like it because if you drink it slow and it warms somewhat it still tastes good.
I couldn’t stomach a warm coke, dr. Pepper, etc.
Regionally it's not common over there to drink cold sodas... but in the states being cold makes the drink
I did
I am seriously impressed with how much y'all ate in one sitting. You're basically Americans now. 😂
Nah Americans would be watching sports and eating the whole container of candies but for a non- American impressive

Hubba Bubba, Bubble Yum, and Bazooka bubble gum!
I'm old enough that the only Pop tart flavors available when I was young were unfrosted fruit filled. I loved the strawberry.
During World War Two they had to root out German spies impersonating Americans using baseball trivia because their accents were so good. They should’ve just given them root beer.
LoL 😂😂😆😆 YES " Root," beer 🍺 not True " American Beer," but of course Root beer is great in America.
@@richardscaggs5936 I agree. Root Beer is one of my favorite drinks, and I cant stand Coke or colas in general. I guess I'm in the minority in that.
Root beer, Birch beer and Sapirila are all delicious. My father loved it too, and my brothers. It is totally an American food..I like Dr. Pepper too, but don't drink anything with caffeine except black tea that doesn't bother me. I adore Snowballs, but nothing else from Hostess, their so called baked goods are awful except for Snowballs. I would not let my children eat Poptarts, they are all sugar. Yuck. I bake, and make wonderful things.
Feels bad for the Americans who don't like sports then :\
@@kioku119 Back then there were very few American men who didn’t follow baseball, even if they didn’t much like it. It was a subject for small talk like the weather. So if you were on a bus in Boston for example, the guy next to you would likely talk your ear off about how the Red Sox have been doing, how this player isn’t worth the money, and we should play this player more. But ultimately you make a very good point - if you were one of the very few American men who didn’t keep up with baseball, you may have been mistaken for a German spy.
I’m so confused what kind of medicines you have over there! If my medicines tasted like root beer I’d have to go to rehab for a drug addiction! 😂
😂😂😂
For real though
I take it they don't have NyQuil in the Green death flavor. lol
No joke! Last liquid medication I remember taking tasted like pure alcohol. Rubbing alcohol. LOL
It was saspirilla flavor, not plain rootbeer.
You’ve cracked the code of Hostess! All the cakes are the same with small variations.
I'm glad I came across your family. I love watching you. It's nice to see someone like where you live, so thank you 😊 You have a great family and hello from Ohio. 👋
O M G the simultaneous reaction to Red Hots is GOLD!!!
What an adorable family. Even as a hardcore Yank from Boston I can appreciate your NZ charm. You’re casual video style make you very approachable. And you’re a good looking strapping young guy, with a supermodel looks wife and about the most precious children I’ve ever seen. Good luck with the vids et al.
Mixing all of those tastes, textures and flavors can alter the way they actually taste
Yeah, I kept thinking that too. If you do something like this again, you need to drink some water in between. ☺
ikr No way can they get the true flavor of anything after the first sample.
I would never eat chocolate then drink rootbeer. Those flavors would taste awful together
Agree
More like stunt your growth.
LOL, Red Hots are one of my favorite candies from my childhood. LOVE hot cinnamon candy.
People in New Zealand: RootBeer tastes like cough medicine!
Me: Why don't we have that kind of medicine?
They had sarsaparilla, not root beer
Drinking root beer or any soft drink after chocolate changes the taste for the worse.
Jaegermeister tastes like cough syrup - but not root bear
Lodium? Can you get that in New Zealand
I was thinking the same thing
Some of these are definitely acquired tastes that I imagine could be quite strange if you didn't grow up eating them.
facts you have to get used to the processed stuff
Some of it is just nasty, like Twizzlers and sour straws. Yuck. I never figured out the hype.
I love how the kids simultaneously spit out the Red Hots and grabbed the soda! 😂

@Forever Hermosa root beer
We drink Dr Pepper and other cola cold. Makes a big difference in the taste

It’s so crazy to see people that aren’t from America react to American things that are so normal to us 🤯🤯 I really enjoyed this video definitely subscribing ❤️
Reese’s are the best
I spent years in China and their snack foods are definitely different than ours in the USA. They have imported Hershey's and Lays and Coke and other things (but their Cheetos aren't even cheese flavored - - they're chicken or beef flavored). But would you enjoy dried seaweed as a snack? Sweets and cakes are usually much blander (esp. any sort of muffin or cupcake). However, the longer I stayed there, the more I got used to (and enjoyed!) some of the local fare.
@@kev7161 I LOVE dried seaweed!! So yes, as an American, I do love dried seaweed! Now the imported Cheetos, especially chicken or beef, that’s a no 😂
Give that boy a carrot or something. He hated everything!🤣🤣🤣
🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕
Facts😂😂😂
At least he ate the Reese
That's probably a good sign that means he hasn't had enough toxins in his body from all the crud that (especially us Americans eat)
My youngest son was like him. At Halloween his brother and sister made out as he would only eat an orange lollipop, orange popsicle or an occasional Hershey bar, meaning one or two a year. Now he is 29 and still does not eat candy but loves cheesecake.
i have never met a non-american that actually really liked Root Beer. today was the first time i have ever seen otherwise. my world is shaken.
I always used to think i hated root beer because I had only ever tried Barq's or A&W.
But just recently I tried Jones Soda's brand of Root Beer and turns out, I actually like SOME root beer
I’m an American and I hate Root Beer (and Dr. Pepper actually).
My favourite soda is A&W root beer but it is really hard to find in New Zealand.
I feel like theres a decent amount of Americans that dont like root beer either
@@longhornboi16 Boylans is amazing too! The only 2 flavors I still drink of any soda are natural root beer and cream soda.

Ha ha...your expressions with the cinnamon candy! Priceless. Made me laugh out loud.
You're spot on about Hostess, it's the same recipe just shaped differently. Same cream is used for all the snacks.
and it sucks now. not as good as before they went bankrupt.

Cinnamon brown sugar pop tarts are probably my favorite, then probably wild berry, Strawberry, and Cherry. I like to microwave them then cut it length way and dip it in milk.

I do too I'm not fan of Pop-Tarts

Me either but I do actually like certain ones frozen. Toaster strudels are definitely better tho.
I love the idea of Pop-Tarts but in reality they always fall a little flat. The calories are ridiculously high for what you’re getting too.
When I was young we traveled east of the Mississippi River every year on vacation to visit my grandmother. And we always bought a case of Bun candy bars to take home with us. The vanilla was ok, but the best was the original flavor. Maple. You still can’t buy them in the stores here in Kansas. But you can get them if you order them online.
Whoppers malted milk balls and Reese Fast Break bars are both worth trying if they aren’t in New Zealand

I love tootsie rolls!
I agree. I dont care for them and I've never known anyone who loves them. Not when i was a child or now as an adult. But yrs ago they were good for their time when there were much less chocolate options!!
Twinkies are mainly grease and sugar. They pump the grease out of the sewer lift stations, it collects in little balls that get bigger and bigger until they start interfering with the float switches. It then has to be pumped out and hauled to a refinery where it's turned into pure white grease. After that they use it for countless American food products .
I love Reese’s peanut butter cups the best.
Had one last night with mini Reese’s pieces inside 🥺
Yo!!!! The absolute best!

Unfortunately those aren't original Twinkies or Snoballs. Fun fact: Snoballs were created when the US was rationing sugar, hence why it's covered in coconut as a substitute for sugar.
Would not be disappointed if they were wiped off the face off the earth lol
That seems dumb the cake, cream and marshmallow are all loaded with sugar.
@@andrewthezeppo did you miss the part where I said they aren't original?
@@Riptionator regardless you are still wrong. Sno Balls were invented when sugar and flour rationing ended and Twinkies were originally banana cream which was changed to vanilla when bananas were rationed sugar had nothing to do with it.

My daughter and I have gone way back...lol. 3 years back. But, we're new to your channel and are watching them all. I doubt you'll see this comment.
Sad thing is twinkies tasted bad compared to the way they tasted before it changed hands and recipe

Spot on!! '70s Twinkies rule.
exactly, they ruined all the cereals too, especially my favorite as a kid "Honey Smacks", cant even eat that cereal anymore. Twinkies are just not the same either
Very true
Last I had a Twinkie, it left such a yucky aftertaste. When I was a kid our school took us to the I think it was called the ITT Baking company in NYC they were the original company that made Twinkies & Wonder Bread,,,that was such a fun day! They tasted best then,,, I’m 50 now so that was probably 40 years or so ago give & take.😞🤣
Without reading all the other comments and I may be repeating some others: You should have had glasses or bottles of water on standby so you could refresh the palette after each try. Also, sweet soda after eating sugary candies probably affects the taste a bit. Having an A%W with some Cheetos would have been a different experience I think. Also, too many sweet snacks to try and not enough salty/savory ones!

The Big League Chew is shredded that way because it was made to mimic chewing tobacco back in the day. Baseball players used to chew tobacco all of the time, and so Big League Chew was marketed towards young baseball players. MLB has tried to stamp out chewing tobacco, but I'm 38 and when I was little dudes used to go to bat with GIANT cheeks full of chaw.

One thing I have learned while traveling with the United States Navy is that even things with the same brand won’t taste the same because of the slight difference in ingredients...you should have someone from the states send you stuff that y’all have that is made in the states and it will really surprise you
Yeah very true! Good point
Thank you for your service. Thank you for keeping us safe 💯 Cannot thank you rnough. You are a hero in my book 🙏🏾
Thank you for your service!
This is true! In the States we tend to have a laundry list of ingredients (most we don't even know how to pronounce) in our products. Most of that stuff isn't thrown into any food products in other countries but apparently here in the States it's all fair game. I'm pretty sure the majority of it's not healthy either but it does do wonders for the way things taste 🤷🏾♂️
@@konchuzthawt was just about to write something like that, then I saw your comment! Lol A lot of products across the pond also use natural flavors, when a lot of our stuff is artificially flavored, along with all that whole list of preservatives and other stuff. I remember getting starbursts in Ireland. I couldn’t say why I thought it, but I guess I assumed they were the same everywhere. Not even close. Besides having flavors I’d never had before, like black currant, their lemon and limes actually had the fruit pulp in it! Here, you can barely find lime anything anymore, it’s all been replaced with green apple, which I’m not the biggest fan of... but I definitely liked theirs better than ours.
A & W is good with Ice cream, we make root beer floats. Two scoops of vanilla ice cream , then poor A & W in.

The interesting thing about the Chips Ahoy cookies, is that they are made by "NABISCO" and the name NABISCO is short for "the National Biscuit Company"
Also, Chips Ahoy cookies have a distinct flavor; not like a regular chocolate chip cookie. I LOVE Chips Ahoy!!!
And the crazy thing about that is that the national biscuit company is short for the quasi-national intergalactic sweet biscuit Company of the United States of America🤷🏻♂️
I guess root beer must be an acquired taste cause everyone I’ve introduced it to has hated it. Makes no sense to me though, as I can’t imagine how you couldn’t think it tastes amazing. It’s always been my favorite soda by far. And a&W is the good stuff!
I prefer IBC root beer
I've tried to like root beer, but I just can't. Tastes just awful to me. My son loves it, though.
It really must be. A&W was the first root beer I had tried and I really love it
Root beer is great... Should also try Creme soda
also bas to be ice cold and served in a glass mug that has been stored in the freezer
I like all of your videos, I'll be watching for more👍
I enjoyed this. You should try pop rocks. I’m telling my age it was a total ‘80s candy
It was around in the seventies as well as the eighties.
Yes. Born in 78' and pop rocks are part of my childhood too!! Good call, I think the whole family would love the experience.
Very late 90’s baby here and I loved those things as a kid in the early 2000s. I was wondering why they didn’t have Pop Rocks since they’re such a classic.
There literally sold everywhere
I still love pop rocks lol
When you eat chocolate with a soda drink it ruins the flavor of the drink.
Totally agree, it's awful!
I have to disagree, try pineapple soda and dutch chocolate ice cream. If you can't get dutch chocolate ice cream, just do any chocolate ice cream. Amazing flavor rushes. But I was very surprised by them not tasting the sour of sour patch kids. I cringe when I eat them because of the sour. Makes my body shiver.
@@buffycleaveland8116 Sounds good! I'm going to try it. My favorite ice cream - chocolate ice cream with crushed sweetened pineapple on top. Yum. Can't wait to try your suggestion. What brand soda do you use?
@@buffycleaveland8116 I also love vanilla ice cream with orange soda. Tastes like those old school creamsicle bars we had as kids. Don't have one often but have one every couple years at least. Delicious.
@@emmef7970 Yes! Love that favor too, pineapple bits? Never thought of that one, cool! Any pineapple soda works. I buy the HEB store brand. Tell me what you think after.
19:45 everybody in America know don’t drink pop after eating something hot
Right!!! Soda doesn't help after eating hot stuff not in my experience at least🤷🏽♀️
I agree!! Soda after hot burns more and changes the taste for sure
@@TheGollyLlama I think he meant after eating hot candy. I love me a good ice cold sprite with spicy savory foods. And milk with spicy candy LOL. I’m odd like that.
Haha yep
I know! I was like don't drink it!!!
You guys are so much fun, this yank thinks it would be quite an experience to hang out with your naturally high-energy family! Anyway, best wishes to you folks (as if I had to tell ya, lol).
Salt water taffy would be interesting to get your reactions on.
All those pretty colors
yeah.. salt water taffy is the only sweet I like now as an adult, and I can't buy much of it or I'll sit and eat it all!
Only if its handmade (called hand-pulled) at the Jersey Shore. Best stuff.
If it weren't for nostalgia about our trips to the shore during our childhood, saltwater taffy would be banned.
This was awesome. Definitely some odd choices in there, but some great ones too. You should try Sour Patch Kids, Reese’s peanut butter cups (regular ones), Butterfinger
Oh gushers and cheeze its
Takis, hot cheetos, coca cola cherry, mountain dew, butter fingers, almond joy, nerds or any wonka candy, cheez it, rits sandwich, Pringle, fig newtons, mint oreos, mint m&m, skittles, gold fish, baby ruth, funyuns, sour patch kids, kit kat. The list go on and on, I know because I've tried all of this and more.
Watermelon sour patch are my favorite sour patch.
@@yudej6809 YES 😂
My favorite candy bar besides Butterfinger was 5th Avenue. But haven’t seen those in years. I prefer any candy with dark chocolate rather than milk chocolate. The latter gives me heartburn.
We definitely have hubba Bubba too lmaoo
Loved hubba bubba - also loved Bazooka bubble gum though it was not soft like hubba bubba. They had little comics inside with "Bazooka Joe"
Tootsie Rolls were invented in 1907... they are definitely an acquired taste, but those who grew up with them are... well. We are eating happy childhood memories!
You have no idea how hard I'm laughing right now watching you guys try the the red dots laugh my ass off thank you
