WoW - I'm brand new to DCS and wanted to use a stream deck. You did a SUPERB job explaining the steps to get the DCS interface onto the stream deck. Thank you so much. I just subscribed to your channel. Now I have to see how to load other people's DCS settings into the steam deck. Keep up the great content.!!!!
THANK YOU so much for this tutorial!! I just bought a streamdeck and was wondering how to use it for DCS! SO glad I found this tutorial! I got it installed - now I'll be spending all night setting it up later :)
Charles, a big thanks for the plugin development and this great support series. I'm currently flying the P47D but I don't think this aircraft is supported (at the time of writing). Is this something you have on your project list as an update? It would be great if you could.
Just about to get my first StreamDeck and going to give this a go in DCS. I noticed your plugin docs are now pointing to a fork of the ExportScript plugin. Do I just need to install the fork, or do I need to get the full version of ExportScript then put the forked stuff on top?
Hello thank you for the great video, what type of notepad do you use for the script lines, looks different to windows notepad when opening the LAU file please?
Wondering if there are updates for this, or maybe DCS updates broke it? I just did the install and it seems to be working correctly... I imported a profile and the buttons seem to work in DCS. However, when I try to look up key ID codes, the list doesn't populate. I am running DCS from Steam (is this an issue?) and the installed aircraft will populate the "Select Module" drop down; but selecting an aircraft from that drop down doesn't show me any codes. Any idea what I need to do? Is there another place to find these codes, like in a .lua file or something? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Hello and thanks for the video. I just got my streamdeck today, but I can´t get it to work. I did everything as you showed in the video, but the Deck is not communicating with DCS. On ID lookup I see all the modules, but when I´m running a mission the deck will not connect to the game. Help would be much appreciated!
Congratulations, great tutorial, but I have a problem: once the pc is turned off, by loading DCS again the interface no longer works, if I re-install everything ok, but every time I turn off I have the problem again .....?
great tutorials. I ham starting with the Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft's.. first with the F15c. I have tried some examples using your tutorial, but unable to replicate your results. I do have communication with the module ,, just wondering if there are any limitations. Cheers
Many thanks for your excellent job. Unfortunately, most probably due to the recent MT update I face severe lag spikes and stuttering when I join an on line server. Single player is working smoothly with DCS Streamdeck interface working. Is there any recent update that cures this issue;
i just got my Streamdeck today. I have a question. Why cant this thing be recognized in the DCS Adjust Controls so we can bind the keys the same way we do with a keyboard/hotas?
I think you COULD use it with keyboard shortcuts. The difference is that your buttons won't show the cool animation of buttons lighting up when they're ON, or won't get the cool switch ON/OFF animation like through the software he created.
Hello Charles, need your help, my plugin is no longer working (dcs module not running according to débug), i restart the install from scratch. Since last Time i use DCS UFC plugin and winwing mfd. Are you aware of any clash? Do you have any discord/mail to share maybe some screens of my lua to have a look?
Hello, I just spent about 2 days trying to figure out why everything was showing up as working but would not input any keys from the streamdeck, Very simple fix run streamdeck application as ADMIN very easy to overlook but is needed for proper use.
Is there anywhere that I can download the profile that you have created? I see that there are some on the DCS forums. They’re either out of date or just not quite as good. Ha
Hi, I responded to someone with similar questions in a thread here: forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=269642&page=29 If you can try the steps there (it's post #287), then let me know how those go I can help you out. For others coming across this, here are some debugging tools: Can you tell if DCS Export script is working? They have a log file in "Saved Games\DCS\Logs\Export.lua" that should write out some data each time a Mission is started. If that is working, then you can next test from the StreamDeck side. There is the DCS comms button which opens a window from the plugin, and you can click Refresh to see if it is reading any data from the specified IP address and port. If the Export Script is working, but Streamdeck isn't and the ports are configured the same in both, you can also look at a log file generated by the Streamdeck. In Windows Explorer paste the following location in the address bar: "%appdata%\Elgato\StreamDeck\logs". There should be log files there for "com.ctytler.dcs#.log
Hi Charles, Loving all your videos so far on the setting up of StreamDeck XL with my unit. I did have one question, is it possible to get a copy of all of the ID Lookup values for the F/A-18C. Obviously, I have them all listed when I press the ID Lookup button but just wanted somehow to get them into an Excel SpreadSheet, if at all possible. I can't copy and paste as they won't select Thank you Charles Toni
I've added a standalone tool to just extract ID Lookup table values for anyone that wants to gather them, instructions are in the Readme page here: github.com/charlestytler/dcs-clickabledata-extract
I follow the link above and I see Dcs Interface v1.0.4 which does not match what you show in this video. When I dl it and open it, i do not see an export.lua file anywhere.
Hi Charles, hoping you could help please. I have followed the tutorial but for some reason having an issue with DCS not showing up in the comms. I posted a comment on the thread on the DCS forum (Zedman1uk). I have set the ports up and the stream deck is seeing the module but not connecting.
Nice video and very good explanation. I downloaded the file. Apparently the icon library is no longer linked. Does anyone have a current download link for this? Is there a usable profile for the F14 Tomcat somewhere? :)
Hi Charles, I hope you get to see this comment and you are able to help me. I have followed all of your videos and they have been a great help in setting up my Stream Deck XL. Many thanks for the work you have put into the videos. I have recently come across a problem. I have just bought the Ka-50_3 from DCS and there is already an updates DCS-ExportScript available to include the Ka-50_3. I also deleted the original DCS Strean Deck profile and re-installed th elatest version. However, when I go to the ID Lookup for the Ka-50_3 in the Stream Deck the module is available but the Device ID etc is not populated. DO you have any ideas? Sorry this comment is a bit long but I couldn't find a link to PM you. I hop eyou can help me with this. Many thanks, and thanks again for your very comprehensive videos. Nial
So I started the process of setting up all of my keybinds yesterday, and the install directory worked fine. However, today when I'm looking, nothing shows up in the install directory (no modules), and therefore I cannot set up any keybinds.
Hi Charles. I know you made this video a little while ago so I hope you get to read this message. Many thanks for the videos on setting up the Stream Deck - your input has been invaluable and a great help to a newbie. I have one question, ... when I use 'ID Lookup', Flaming Cliffs is listed as is Su-27T but when I click on Su-25T, in the 'Select Module' drop down, the table is not populated, If I use the Flaming Cliffs table everything in the Type column is listed as a button (BTN) and there is no DCS ID for anything. If I select the L-39C, a full clickable cockpit, the resulting table is as I would expect (as per your videos). I assume that as the Flaming Cliffs aircraft are not fully clickable cockpits this would be the reason why. I have downloaded a Stream Deck profile for the Su-27T but the buttons are mapped to the button press in the Su-25T but they just do not work for some reason! Thanks again for the work you have done on the subject. Kind regards Nial
The info I pull all of the "ID Lookup" info from is the clickable items in the cockpit (this includes the hover text for the description). However for flaming cliffs you're right that there's no clickable items so there's not commands to be set. Although since those modules have simplified commands there's probably not too much benefit to using the DCS ID command and just using a normal streamdeck button with keyboard press. Incorporating keyboard emulation in to the plugin was something I didn't pursue since native StreamDeck already supports it.
I have the XL and wanted to use it with the AH-64, how did you manage to get it installed?? I am not very savvy with PCs (use mainly Macs ) and I have not found a decent RUclips that seems to work!!! Cheers
Hi Charles. I love your tutorial It is very well explained and easy to understand but Can you make a video on how to troubleshoot the no input detected or shown for the FC planes as i'n not sure which line of code needs to be changes so it can get the data?
The install directory is only used for the "ID Lookup" table contents. So it shouldn't affect actual functionality. You can choose either directory and I think the clickable data per module doesn't really change much.
Sorry to bother you Charles, I am trying to install this on to a Windows 11 machine, and when i try to install the plugin, in does not recognise it as an installation file, any suggests?
i have just watched the vid a bunch of times along with the momentary press vid and i cannot get it to work. all the scripts are installed, all the software on the stream deck are installed but press the button and nothing
I’m having trouble getting things to work, ive done everything step by step, the first issue is when I update the steam deck DCS install directory it’s unable to find any, my DCS is located in the Steamapps folder for steam but this doesn’t want to work. I’ve added a few profiles just to test run them and none of them work, for example one any with a UFC the buttons just act as the keypad and start moving the camera, is this a fault on my behalf or do I need to manually add every button to a keystroke? Please help
I've tried everything, but I still can't figure out why the ID lookup shows the ID's from the TF-51D perfectly fine, but on the Su-27 and Su-25T it doesn't show anything. Is there something I can do? Thanks for any help :)
@@AviSpace ah probably, I've since bound the most useful operations to work macro's and made it work that way, but thanks for the reply! I'll try to look into some full fidelity aircrafts when I get back into the game and try again. thanks and happy flying!
In the StreamDeck in DCS Comms I can see the F18 from DCS. In the ID Lookup I can find the items to get associated with the SD button. However nothing happens in DCS. My config lua looks good. The script for this is the only thing in my Export lua. Stream Deck logs show a press/release action but DCS logs don't show anything. I had this working before and can't for the life me figure out what the hell changed to break this. Standard hotkey binds of the Streamdeck using keyboard binds in DCS work. Anything with the Interface doesn't.
Make sure the file as downloaded is named "com.ctytler.dcs.streamDeckPlugin" (ending with a file type of .streamDeckPlugin) in order for Windows to know it's associated with the StreamDeck application. If it got renamed during downloading you can rename the file and try opening it. Or you can right-click on the file, select "Open With..." and find the StreamDeck application to open it with.
The ID Lookup list, is that a finite list of info that ED exports from their modules? Or is it a list that is expanded on over time? There might be some lights in the F-16 that I would like to at to my stream deck (fx. EPU RUN), but I can't find the ID on the list. Any good ideas?
You may want to try the Beta build with DCS-BIOS which does have mod aircraft support, see thread here: forums.eagle.ru/topic/292922-streamdeck-plugin-with-dcs-bios-beta/ (Note this is still experimental and has limited functionality, but should allow the basics)
Thank you so mutch, Charles for this great job. It's amazing. I can command, now, the armement of my Huey very easy. I saw all your vidéos and it's very helpfull.
Great tutorial - one issue I've found and it's likely me. You have recently (Jul 2021) updated the Streamdeck DCS Interface to v1.0.4. The DeckPlugin file does not seem to run on it's own. There is a 'Sourcecode zip' there as well and I'm not sure what steps to take. Thank you in advance. Sub'd *** UPDATED *** I DIDN'T ASSOCIATE THE PLUGING TO STREAMDECK... works now.
@Jessica Streamdeck is free, just grab it from their site and install it all first before any of these steps. Once it is loaded, follow these steps. When you download the 'plugin' for DCS, that is where I ran into my issue. In short, the plugin is just that, an 'add-on' to the Streamdeck software. I thought the plugin was an executable file in of itself - it is not. Once you have the DCS Plugin for Streamdeck downloaded, right click on it and 'Open With' option and use Streamdeck to open the DCS Plugin. That will associate it to Streamdeck and it works perfect. I just did all these steps this week (Sept 2021) and they are all work perfectly. Hope that helps.
Pretty sure you could use only this as your UFC as well. Just create folders for different options. Hang on, check out this video to see the different functions you could do with this software: ruclips.net/video/bx7tI5XzDoc/видео.html
Hi I did everything in this video but still cannot communicate the streamdeck with DCS, the only difference is that I don't have a "script" folder in SavedGames folder so I created one
Great job ! is this just getting more & more complex... layer after layer. SIM means complicated but thats what we like. We are pilot mechanic manager and designer.
Yes, I just tried running CaptZeen's A-10C Helios profile while using the StreamDeck Plugin and both ran fine. You'll just need the "dofile(...)" commands for each in your Export.lua file. They send/receive data on different ports so there's no conflict between the two.
I get to the part where im supposed to copy the export.lua file and paste it into my saved games dcs scripts export.lua file but when i try to open up either one of the files a view and track your downloads window opens up. It then asks me to open or save the file. When i try to open the file a window opens and closes so fast that i cant see whats in it. Im not very knowledgable when it comes to stuff like this so im hoping you could help me out. Thank you
I have files that end in ".lua" defaulted to open in a text editor in my example here is what I think the confusion is. In order to open "Export.lua" to view the text inside you can right-click the file, from the menu select "Open with"->"Choose another app". From the window that opens you should be able to select "Notepad" (may have to also click "More apps"). Let me know if that solves your issue. What it sounds like is happening now is Windows is trying to run the file with some application which just does nothing. If you'd like to have these script files open on double click like in the video, you can also check the box "Always use this app to open .lua files" before choosing "Notepad" in the steps above.
Wow, I hadn't even thought of trying it with the iPhone streamdeck app. Is there noticeable delay when used there? For pages there's two options under the "Stream Deck" category: "Create Folder" and "Switch Profile". If you create folder if just creates a new page with an Up arrow to go back and you can put new buttons in there. Alternatively you can create separate profiles and use Switch Profile to go between them. The advantage of the "Switch Profile" is you can jump to different ones from different pages instead of a hierarchical folder structure. Not sure if this all applies to the iOS app version.
@@charlestytler I've not noticed a difference at all bud, It works great to be honest and at only just under 3 pounds a month its going to take me a long time to get to where the mini costs at the moment! And sweet cheers for the info, after hunting around managed to figure out the way to a semi homepage and did what you said and created a set of switch profile icons which work really well. All i need is a bit of time now to get profiles for my most flown aircraft (Think this will be the longest part)... Then onto IL2.... Cheers again Charles
This is the most confusing nonsense..why can’t somebody just create a clickable link that downloads and installs what’s needed for stream decks...not all of us are software engineers....and don’t particularly care what a “lua” file is, etc...we just want to install the software and move on without having to do a bunch of steps...😖😖

Wanting to use streamdeck for a NON dcs released aircraft mod, Specifically the anubis c-130 mod. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!
You may want to try the Beta build with DCS-BIOS which does have mod aircraft support, see thread here: forums.eagle.ru/topic/292922-streamdeck-plugin-with-dcs-bios-beta/
(Note this is still experimental and has limited functionality, but should allow the basics)
For the life of me, I cannot get this to work. I know it's an old video but I cannot get them to communicate.
Same here. All the ports are correct but it just won't communicate.
Sub'd
*** UPDATED *** I DIDN'T ASSOCIATE THE PLUGING TO STREAMDECK...
This is great! Love it!
I'm using this with the dcs ufc pro app but I just can't get them to work together. Shame.great program but I need the ufc.
Same boat here
Great job ! is this just getting more & more complex... layer after layer. SIM means complicated but thats what we like.
We are pilot mechanic manager and designer.
Thank you!!!
Can you also run Helios profiles with your program?
Yes, I just tried running CaptZeen's A-10C Helios profile while using the StreamDeck Plugin and both ran fine. You'll just need the "dofile(...)" commands for each in your Export.lua file. They send/receive data on different ports so there's no conflict between the two.
Thank you so much!
@@charlestytler thank you, that solved my problem
i dont know if you sstill monitor this but i sure could use some help i cannot get it too work.
Me either, let us know if you figure it out me and my buddy just bought stream decks to do this and we just can’t get it to connect
@@gonzalezluis1212 Yeah same here. I have tried everything. Anyone got any ideas. I have posted on forums and everything.
Awesome this also worked for the Iphone App!! awesome (PS how do you set up a button to go to a different page.... asking for a friend lol)
Hallo bei mir klappt das nicht .
why isn't the f-16 supported?!?!?!??!?!
JF-17 dont worke ... :(
YOU GOT SOME FIX??
StreamDeck.. wait I'm on the wrong video.
СУПЕР👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🆗???
be pretty cool if this actually worked
