  • A brief introduction to Mad Raven Woodworks followed by a quick shop tour. Enjoy my tiny workshop!
Two major tools I forgot to mention were my:
-Porter Cable 6" jointer (not bad for boards less than 6 feet and I recommend it for those on a budget)
-Craftsman 1 3/4 hp fixed base router (does the job!)

Nice shop! I like your down to earth, no bs approach. Not everyone has the money or sponsors to supply buy high end tools. It can be intimidating to people starting up a shop. I've been carpenter / joiner for nearly 40 years and still love my job. I hope you do well young fella! 😉

This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ruclips.net/user/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.

I’m a fellow tiny shop worker. Mine is like 8x10. In the middle of a total French cleat overhaul. Glad I found your channel, we share similar philosophies when it comes to tool buying although I prefer to buy older tools and restore them to working order. I got my tablesaw for $15!

I feel you brother. I work out of two shed's one is 10x 10 and a 10 x 16. I'm in the process of installing French Cleat system which has already improved my space. I can't even dream of Festool system.

Milwaukee cordless jigsaw. I used to be like you and never had faith in the battery power tools. Really only trusted the drills. But battery tech has come a long way. I was gifted a jigsaw and it got more power on one battery then i ever use in a day. Anyways good stuff man i enjoy the videos.

you forgot the most important part the pot belly!! love the setup mate it's great to see someone else achieving their goals in a shoebox. between you and the samurai I'm sitting on RUclips alot.

Well done mate. My respect for your humility and will to do this in a tight budget and confined space. Thumbs up for restoring your grandads saw. I'm starting out in wood working and actually live in an apartment! So have to work in my balcony! So I was looking for videos on small shop set ups. My balcony is probably less than half the size of your shop hehe. So I'll be making my own workbench which will have a quick swap set up for various power tools. Along with that have a ton of other changes to make to the balcony to alow it to be used as a shop and revert back to a balcony when needed. I've subscribed and will keep an eye out for your content.

thanks Nate 👊🏼 it's organized, but i can tell you that there are major dust issues lol. I don't bother turning on my shop vac 75% of the time because it will likely trip the breaker and i'll have to walk in the cold 75 yards to reset it.

Great small shop set up you have there. Mine is about the same size at 14x19. I look forward to the development of your channel. I think you'll fill a void missing on RUclips, in the lower end to mid range equipment, and what can be created with it. "bang for the buck" is always an important requirement for the hobbyist/entry level woodworker.

    • @MadRavenWoodworks
      @MadRavenWoodworks  8 лет назад

Love your attitude, and your shop. My shop is about the same size. No Festol? Bonus! I decided a long time ago that if I was going to buy the most expensive tools I could find to woodwork, I'd have to wait decades to start. My maxim is, "Don't let money keep you from what you love". If you can't afford a Sawstop or a Powermatic, buy a mid priced table saw. If you can't afford a mid priced table saw, buy a bench top model. If you can't afford a bench top model, buy a portable circular saw. If you can't afford a portable circular saw, buy a hand saw. I too, would like to know about your stove. Video?

Awesome shop area! Take a look at Matias Wandel and John Heisz tool board. I think you will find that a plywood backer that you can position anything with screws is quite ideal compared to the pegboard. Look forward to more to come. I too am sharing a one car garage with a car and two bikes on the wall.

New subscriber but I appreciate this video! I am in the process of building my tool/workshop shed. ONLY a 10'x10' shed so I can fully appreciate your issues. We just bought our first home and unfortunately for me, my original plan to hijack our double car garage was destroyed by my wife which is a professional baker. She needed the space for storage cabinets, ingredients, decorating tables, etc. So needless to say...tools and sawdust were NOT going to be approved in that space. Bummed but actually a little stoked too. It has forced me to downsize my tool plans and encourage me to focus on organization, multi-functional tools, and mobile tools. I am afraid the R4512 (buying it today which brought me to this video) being too big for that space but I think I will have plenty of space rolling it toward the door of the shed and being able to still have clearance to have an outfeed table as well as roll it out onto my patio area. REALLY long way of saying...thanks for the video and looking forward to following you along your journey as I learn more.

I'm a giant, and trying to see how small my shop can be to get what I want out of it. (I only have 1 functioning arm/leg so no table saw for me.)
However, I'm 6'7" 320, so I might want end up going 16x20 on my shed. (I'm still only partially through video, so I'm not 100% sure on size.)
Now... I know the video is 4 years old but for cordless jigsaws.... they are one of my go-to tools (great blades go a long way) and I have to 20v Dewalt, and I'm yet to bury a 5ah battery with it. The angle grinder though... that will eat a 5ah reallllly fast. Lol. I now only use that for short work, and have a few corded angle grinders I use that are mounted to different jigs.
So I'm curious if you tried other cordless jigsaws since this video was made?
