This is a pocket pistol. By adding the 10 round magazine it is now a holster pistol. Some of your viewers might like to use this gun as it was intended (in the pocket) so your "fix" might not be a fix at all, it is simply your personal preference. I agree with the replacement of the plastic guide rod but to be fair, once the gun is assembled there isn't any pressure on the guide rod anyway. I like the gun just the way it is from the factory.
I have a 10-round magazine for mine but it use it as a backup in my other pocket in a little nylon case. I believe seven rounds are plenty to get the job done with the standard magazine
Changing the guide rod makes no difference, it is just a place holder. hollow point bullets are a waste in this gun cause they don't have enough velocity from such a short barrel. What you need is plain ball rounds, penetration is more important with such an anemic round I know I was robed a shot six times with a p32 . Hollow points saved my life as they did not penetrate far enough into my body to do critical damage.
@@yankee1985524 Just watch .32 Auto ballistics gel penetration tests. Any JHP that penetrates adequately does not expand; any JHP that expands doesn't penetrate enough to reliably reach vital tissues. Thus, JHPs in .32 Auto are an expensive waste.
@@tomrogers5862 Also sounds like european brands tend to load their ball 32acp a bit hotter with slightly heavier bullets; S&B, Fiocchi, etc. 73gr bullet instead of 71gr with a bit more propellant or something. Might be due to europe having a longer history of the 32acp as a military/police issued round?
WARNING: if you decide to use hollow points in the p32 order Kel-Tecs " rim lock" kit. For whatever magazines you're going to carry hollow points... If you want a magazine to shoot hard hardball pick up an extra magazine with no rim lock kit and dedicate that to hardball only...
The plastic guide rod is NOT 'questionable', it works just fine. Even Glocks have plastic guide rods, no one complains about them. Steel guide rods WILL RUIN your slide.
I have had two P32's and both worked great with the plastic guide rod. I have heard and read many stories by people who replaced the plastic rod with the KT metal guide rod and started having lots of jams until they put the plastic one back in the gun.
only use the Fiocchi 73gr FMJ round point ammo or the S&B equiv. with this gun. they work perfectly and penetrate 12+ inches in ballistic gel. Hollow points can jam in the magazine as they are shorter in length. and hollow points will not penetrate well or expand at all
yes the shorter length of the .32 acp hollow point rounds cause rimlock malfunctions, but can be easily fixed by adding a 1/16" inch wire to the inside of the KEL-TEC factory magazines. 💥 There is information on the Internet and RUclips on how to add the metal wire to the magazine.
My P-32 has 500 flawless rounds thru it. One great pocket pistol. The short grip is no problem. I can shoot it with 1 hand or 2. You want a pocket gun? Something to throw in a jacket pocket or take when you go jogging? This is the one to get, will take care of an angry pit bull, or a mugger. Seriously! A gun I never leave home without. There is nothing wrong with the plastic guide rod, but there are metal ones available.
Doesn't the metal guide rod expand the hole in the front of the polymer frame through which the tip of the guide rod protrude? Does this erode shot accuracy and precision?
Steel guide rod is not needed. I've had 2 since k/t started making them. At least a thousand rounds thru one of them with zero issues. That h/p ammo might get you a rim lock due to it's short oal. Good luck.
+351WINCHESTER: Yes to rim-lock with JHPs -- and with the shorter OAL flat-nose FMJs. It can also happen with round-nose FMJs that are 1mm short of spec. I don't trust rim-lock kits. I load 1 Gold Dot HP in the chamber and 1 GDHP as the top round only in a magazine of full length FMJs. Furthermore, the 2 issues assumed to be factual by the video creator are non-issues with the P-32.
1) It’s a micro pistol, and you don’t aim a micro pistol, you point it. Practice drawing on silhouette targets at close range without looking down the top of it. Literally point and shoot. With enough practice, you’ll get better at it than you think. 2) The grip size… it’s a micro pistol. You’re only getting 2 fingers on the grip. Saying that’s a negative is like saying you’re disappointed the Indonesian lawn chair you bought at Walmart broke after one use. 3) The guide rod… yeah replace that plastic crap. I did.
You’re right and brilliant w/ everything but the hollow-point. I love my p32 and so does my wife, and I have the same 3 issues. I’ll paint and order a new guide rod. Already got 2 extended magazines, but I don’t use them when I carry it. Just at home in bed stand. BUT I read all over the place that the hollow-point isn’t as reliable in these smaller pistols especially when using extended mag.
the reason hollow point ammunition is not reliable in the KEL-TEC P32 pistols is because of 'rimlock' which is caused by too much gap inside the front of the magazine. There is information on the Internet and on RUclips of how to add a piece of metal to the inside of magazine. This stops the jamming malfunctions when using .32 acp hollow point ammunition.
I got mine about 9 years ago. Back then the first thing I did was take it apart and polished the barrel and ramp. I got a steel guide rod. I use hard ball ammo it keyholes when it hits something. around 3000 rounds the frame cracked. I sent it back to Kel Teck and the replaced it and did a trigg er job on it. It is always in my back pocket in a Uncle Mike wallet holster. in Cold weather i carry my glock single stack 45acp.
I carry the kel tek p32 every day. It's an outstanding small size and fits in pocket for my job. If I'm off work I'll carry a 9mm and keep this as a backup. I wouldn't use hollow point because I don't see that as effective in this firearm. The problem I have is the slide doesn't lock back. I don't know how to fix that
You may have an issue with your choice of ammo and it's called "rim lock". The rim of the round locks up on the round below it causing a failure to feed or jam. Flat nosed fmj ammo will do the same thing. Ball ammo shoots flawlessly in these pistols. Trust me on this. None of the fixes to the magazine to make it shoot hollow points work. Other than that, these are great "get off me" guns.
FYI: I was firing Cor-bon ammunition through my P32 at the range when it jammed half-way back after firing. Nothing I or the RSO could do would clear it, it jammed HARD. I ended up clearing it with the gun in a soft vise with a punch down the barrel into the empty brass. The Cor-bon was recoiling so hard that the slide had mushroomed the front edges of both rails. My solution was to file them down until it was free and never shoot such a hot defense round again. I'm sticking with silvertips, hot defense round are useless if they aren't reliable in your gun...I think the rails might be aluminum? Not sure. They sure did file easy. This was my ankle gun, now I'm looking for something else to carry there. I no longer trust it, even though this was it's first issue. I like the idea of replacing the guide rod with steel, I'm going to do that, but I'll round the tip and blue my nail.
I've never had a range guy ask to shoot one of my guns...until i bought a P32. They feel the lightness, adjust a grip, aim, fire one, turn around with a huge smile and ask "how much ? " oh, ruger waited till the patent ran out and copied it 100%.
Great video. I painted my front ( and rear sight ) with glo ITD paint. Replaced the plastic guide rod with a metal one. Didn't get the 10 rd. magazine cause I carry it concealed when the threat is low.
I think the P-32 is the best pocket pistol there is. Thin, light, and dependable. I have 150 flawless rounds thru mine and it is great. Very low recoil, I can shoot it one or two handed very easily. I highly recommend it for carry.

All the mods for this can be had from Kel Tec, guide rod, extended mags, I put a Nitesiters glow in the dark strip on my front sight. One thing I have not seen mentioned is trigger slap this is only gun I have ever had that problem with, I bought a metal replacement trigger for a Ruger LCP and made it fit (not for the faint of heart or those not mechanically inclined), shooting it is now enjoyable. There are some other outfits that sell modifications for Kel Tec guns also. Excellent carry gun.
helpful. All these pocket autos have non existent sights. I put white paint on the front sight and then I can actually hit something with them. another thing that helped was talon grip tape on them. Clever with the nail... fist bump.
I know a lot of guys that dont even want front sights on a pocket pistol. You dont need front sights for up close and personal and that is what that gun was made for. Once you add the extended mag then you defeat the purpose of the pocket pistol. Oh well to each is his own. Good video anyways!
Love the paint on the front sight. I'm going to do that to mine. I'm even going to go a step further and put some white on the rear sights. Paint markers rock. Mine came with a metal guide rod but doesn't have a slide hold. Made one thing better and one thing worse in my opinion. I like the slide hold after the last shot.
pirateturns360 Some mags are defective and don't lock slide back on empty. Just had Keltec replace one of mine. No charge. I have plastic guide rod. Works.
Good video .. I have a Gen 1 Keltec 32 It is a bit different than the Gen. 2I use European 32acp ammo .. Higher pressure and higher velocity.... I use Geco FMJ .. I really dont think HP 32 acp ammo works well .. Ethier expanding and not penetrate enough or acts as a FMJ ..I have seen some very interesting Underwood ammo 32 acp ammo
The Underwood rounds are awesome, good reviews on Xtreme cavitators and defenders which replaced cavitators. Use flyerwire mag mods or start ur mag with fmj then defender then fmj then defender and so on. The oal of the hot fiocchi or Geco or S&B fmj, which are heavily recommended, take up space in the mag that doesn't allow rimlock of the shorter Underwood rounds.
I hope the nail head is stong enough and will not chip . Great Job on making one . You probably already did a fluff and buff on the gun ? It really helps to get the burrs off of the barrel ect . I had mine since they first came out . Goes bang every time .So light you can forget you have it on your side .
2016 and Kel Tec must have received several complaints about the guide rod. I just went to the shop and stripped one down to see for myself and it was metal. It was $199 so I took it home. Also picked up a "plus one" extender for the mag to aid with grip and rounds. Going to order the full grip mag that holds I think 10 rounds asap.
You have NADA about reliability in this video, making it useless for anyone wondering how good it shoots. And this IS a "mouse" gun, about which people typically have questions as to FTFs and FTEs. You need a Part II, Dude, showing you cranking out the shots rapidamente at the range. THAT will make people believers! Or not.
Mojo67, the tomcat .32 is near perfect, but...it weighs twice what kel tec does. Pico is excellent, alas only comes in 380, and handgrip is way too small. Diamondback db9 is also in the ballpark with 124g.
I own a p32 gen 1.. my son owns a p-32 Gen 2.. thousands of rounds between the two guns have been fired not one stoppage.. have had no problems with the plastic guide rod... Many polymer guns have plastic guide rods... Never had one break or heard of one breaking really not an issue
I'm buying a new gun today (probably) I've narrowed it down to this P32 or tha Taurus Spectrum. Taurus is coming in at $245 P32 is priced at $411 Or I can buy both and hear about for a week.
I’m a flush magazine kind of guy. Have never used my pinky that much for recoil control, even with my Glock 19, it’s mostly my palms, and other fingers that grip the gun.
Well first issue is you're doing a review and complaining the small group when the sole purpose of the Kel-Tec 32 caliber was for concealed carry. Hence the reason it has the small fixed sights so there's less snag. So with an extended clip it pretty much defeats its sole purpose. Honestly this is the first time I've seen one of this guy's review videos and to be truthful I think it might also be his first
I load mine with Buffalo Bore hardcast SWC. I think I will pay the gunsmith to make me a flyerwire. Although I was told that rimlock will not occur if you load carefully, making sure not to push the follower too far down, I did have rimlock once at the range. I check the mag periodically, unloading and reloading the rounds and so far so good, although I didn't think about the rimlock under recoil issue. That wasn't mentioned as a problem by the smiths I talked to. What I love about the BB is that the foot pounds of energy combine with the hardcast SWC to deliver a bullet that is nearly the equal of a hardcast SWC 38 special. Good stuff. A good reference work for up close and personal is _Shooting to Live_. In one of the most violent cities on the earth at that time, Shanghai under the English boot, the cops managed to do well (unfortunately) against Chinese crooks and rebels using 32 and 380.
Damn bro, that is really awesome how you made that guide rod from a number #8 nail. You could make and sell those on Ebay. I am pretty sure you could sell those all polished like yours, for at least ten dollars. Think about it. Thanks for the info and the video. Cheers
@Tardisius That would be cool T, what camo pattern? I think a digital camo would look sick on it! Maybe a desert theme...Hell, even a digi pattern like on your SOG would be really killer! Just my opinion of course. Take care my friend.
how long have you had the p32 and how many rounds through it? same question for the p25 :). Between the 2 which do you prefer? How much is 32 ammo opposed to 25? Around here 25 is like 18-20 bucks a box.
I just bought a tan p32 on Gunbroker & am looking forward to picking it up from my local ffl soon. After watching your vid I am going to order the factory stainless steel guide rod & 10rd Mag for it (& a mag with a plus 1 base plate). thanks for you vid! P.S. - Does your youtube name ''Tardisius'' have any correlation with the T.A.R.D.I.S. from Doctor Who? Just asking cause I am a fan of the show & the name is similar...
Lol if you’re worried about sites and adding a longer grip that’s probably the wrong gun for you. That’s made to be stuck in a pocket and be tiny and work and be dependable it’s not a range gun.
I've had mine since '99 and have never had an issue. I only have shot maybe 500 rounds through it, but I have never had a failure of any kind. Very small and concealable. My girlfriend likes it, but I encourage her to carry the LCP in .380 because the .32 is questionable even with Buffalo Bore ammo.
Lelen Bates The problem with .380 in an LCP is felt recoil and re-sets. A FMJ 71 or 73 gr. .32 acp is fine for self-defense. JHPs are a little too short and lack penetration. I tried out a P3AT, LCP, Kahr P380 and a Taurus TCP. Hand cannons with really stiff barrel flip...no thanks So, I dropped down to a P32. Perfect. Last round hold, unbelievably light and invisible. Bought one for my wife, too. She LOVES it. EDIT: A P32 has 7+1 in DAO. That's an extra round, no slide racking and no safety to fool with. Perfect point and shoot.
That doesn't make any sense. If Kel Tec makes a metal guild rod, why isn't one already installed on the weapon? I hope your mod works and people that own that pistol see your invention and use it.
Good review. In some ways guns are like children. We often have an emotional attachment to them, despite shortcomings that are very apparent to others.
Great mod with the nail. I never would have been brave enought to try that. Let us know how it works out. I have my little Tomcat and my dad's old Colt 1903 (I think that's it) in .32. Both are fun to shoot, if a little pricey.
I guess this was 8 years ago but the steel guide rod is literally 5 dollars lmao. You can get a whole new slide for $70, every part is super cheap for the gun from the kel tec website

Or not.
Should have gotten a Beretta Tomcat in .32 ACP, had mine 15 yrs no problems!!!
I'm buying a new gun today (probably)
I've narrowed it down to this P32 or tha Taurus Spectrum.
Taurus is coming in at $245
P32 is priced at $411
Or I can buy both and hear about for a week.
Don't use hollow points in 32acp the do not expand and cut your penetration in half. FMJ 12 inches JHP 6 inches 0 expansion
Having your little finger on anything doesn't change how we hold it, it does not add any extra force to what you are holding
captainzanzey Holding it with 3 fingers gives you 33% more grip =)
I'm pretty sure your hand loses 50% of its strength without the pinky, but you don't really need strength for 32acp
+gghouck good idea
Add a guide rod an extra 10 round mag i buy 1
I’m a flush magazine kind of guy. Have never used my pinky that much for recoil control, even with my Glock 19, it’s mostly my palms, and other fingers that grip the gun.
Well first issue is you're doing a review and complaining the small group when the sole purpose of the Kel-Tec 32 caliber was for concealed carry. Hence the reason it has the small fixed sights so there's less snag. So with an extended clip it pretty much defeats its sole purpose. Honestly this is the first time I've seen one of this guy's review videos and to be truthful I think it might also be his first
Now you have a nail gun.
Cheers
I have a p-32it slide back about 1 inch and theta it? What wrong with it?
The 10 round mag is useful to train the wife and daughter and get them to try this...
Using the rim of the ammo to pop the pin out is absolutely genius! Thank you
that's what the owner's manual of the pistol suggest to use.
Thank you for keeping the magnifying glass handy very informative and too the point thank you fellow American
That's why I say berretta is the only way to go
Going with the nail mod, of course im goingvto machine the little part out with an oversized nail. Get those micrometers out!
I bought mine in 2002 and it came in a cardboard box
Looks almost identical to the Ruger LCP, the grips are a problem as well as the sights. Painted my LCP sights too.
The LCP looks almost identical to the P32, not the other way around. P32 was here first.
I fit a Kel-Tec P3-AT and never ventured to take it apart, but I am sure it has a plastic guide rod too. I'll have to check.
Lol if you’re worried about sites and adding a longer grip that’s probably the wrong gun for you. That’s made to be stuck in a pocket and be tiny and work and be dependable it’s not a range gun.
WoW...That is So insightful...Have you tried 'P VS NP' yet =)
Lol bro u should still practice with it right...smh
I noticed that you and I have the same Zip Code when u did a Ebay shipping Video... Have you been to the Kodiak Firing Range?
I've had mine since '99 and have never had an issue. I only have shot maybe 500 rounds through it, but I have never had a failure of any kind. Very small and concealable. My girlfriend likes it, but I encourage her to carry the LCP in .380 because the .32 is questionable even with Buffalo Bore ammo.
Lelen Bates
The problem with .380 in an LCP is felt recoil and re-sets.
Great points, Lelen.
Mine came with a steel guide rod,I wouldn't be happy with a plastic guide rod either
It was really accurate for that small, plus the wife wasn't afraid to carry it.
your from South Bend right?? Goto Midwest for your stuff??
That doesn't make any sense. If Kel Tec makes a metal guild rod, why isn't one already installed on the weapon? I hope your mod works and people that own that pistol see your invention and use it.
gunnwild1 2
This is six years old.
More better = ✔
so does the nail work wanna try it???
How did you cut the nail?
How do you uncock after loaded AND bullet in chamber? Can you show that?
you don't; it's double action only. it won't fire until the trigger is pulled through a long pull.
Nice pistol, great mod too.
thank you
Who makes the extended magazine?
Mecgar. I got it on GunBroker for about $20. =)
Good review. In some ways guns are like children. We often have an emotional attachment to them, despite shortcomings that are very apparent to others.
Thanks!! I made the #8 nail and works GREAT.
You are the Kel tec macguiver arnt you bro good mod
Thanks, first time I have heard of the plastic guide rod, I am considering getting one of these.
Great mod with the nail. I never would have been brave enought to try that. Let us know how it works out. I have my little Tomcat and my dad's old Colt 1903 (I think that's it) in .32. Both are fun to shoot, if a little pricey.
I used two of these. Thanks for the video.
buy a real gun, Shield 9mm
great ea on the nail
Nail is genius! Nice!
My friend bought one of these POS and it didn't even feed 😂 he was
better off buying a hi point
Hollow point bullets are shorter and will do that failure to feed in a MAG is a known issue and it's been gone over so many times you use FMJ's only
I guess this was 8 years ago but the steel guide rod is literally 5 dollars lmao. You can get a whole new slide for $70, every part is super cheap for the gun from the kel tec website
