  • Video from the Newsflare archive of a toddler climbing a 7ft indoor bouldering wall without a harness in Arizona.
The footage shows 19-month-old Ellie carefully and thoughtfully making her way up and over the climbing wall.
The filmer called her "our little monkey" who had "mastered" the climb - adding "she is learning how to decide movement and re-evaluate her hold choices which is exciting to see!"
Bouldering is done close to the ground with mats but no harness.

I'm not a parent and never will be, but I would be under that kid, waiting to catch, not videoing.

Adults nattering in the background, no encouraging words. This kid is alone with just the camera watching. Great determination from that kid. He/she did it for him/herself! The best champion spirit.

Why isn't he wearing a harness

At 47 seconds he does what’s called “social referencing” . . . He looks around to see if anyone saw him accomplish the first difficult feat.

Why isn't there anyone around watching for their safety? A child needs to feel safe at this age also.

Future climbing phenom. Great parents too. When she was struggling to reach a high hold they didn't step in but instead let her figure it out. This will be a skill that will reach well beyond climbing.

Obviously had a lot of practice at home, climbing for the cookie jar on top of the cupboard.

15 18 year old thinking "what if my parents taught me I could do anything at any point" dont make your children hold back from doing anything because you think they cant!

    Legend in the making

  • @daniel-fich

I'm impressed by the patience on that climb. A lot of kids just jump down and tries something else, when they can't figure it out immediately. This kid however, took their time until it worked.
